Phantom Draft Snoops Annual Mock Draft..

geat work Snoop, as always.
Personally I hope the Pies take a couple of genuine talls this time, especially with Jack and Presti both gone. Josh Walker would be great at 45.

cheers mate.

josh is kind of hard to place. potential is pretty big as he can run and take a mark but the results probably havent propelled him to the front of peoples minds. will be interesting to see where he is taken. what you know with hine is the players he wants he just selects if they are available.

Hey snoop

Would love to know who are the real genuine 'full forwards' in this years draft group?

Have singled out Barden as one, but who else could play as a full forward?

I think a few could play at FF but there are no genuine ones.

Genuine FF - Barden, Solly (but undersized), von Bertouch (undersized)

CHF who could play FF - Mitchell could play FF as could Menagola, Lynch, Walker, Gordon and Hamp to name a few but its whether it is there best spot.

Good read snoop.

Just wondering about your thoughts on Max Otten. Personally, would have thought he would be in there, but I'm sure you have a reason for his exclusion cause you seem to be on your game about the draftees.

Cheers bro.

yeah I should have him in but I have him drifiting to be honest bc there are just so many of his type. He could well be selected but there are so many tall HBF'ers in this draft.

Snoop sensational job. Great depth and insight well done. I think youve listed the top WA boys very well.I like your order and especially your rating of Menegola and Chalwell. Two great prospects who were robbed of 18s selection which i thought might cost them, but they both had exceptional games at Subie in the colts Grand final against Peel. I also think Jayden Schofield will go and Kelvin Lawrence who also had very good Grand Finals. (although Lawrence lost focus in the second half and wanted to deck every body - strange because he was an EF player before switching to Peel midseason.)

I heard Schofield chased Lawrence around most of the last half. Havent seen enough of either to be sure but Foj1 rates Lawrence and has seen a bit of him so that is good enough for me. RE is a fan of Schofield and his aggression. Both likely rookies for mine.

George Horlin-Smith

Boy this boy has upside and class. I know you mentioned he reminded you of Nathan Buckley but I think I read another comparison which was spot on for me, I think he plays like Nick Stevens, beautiful kick on both feet and I hope Essendon takes a punt on at pick 31. Obviously he would need a full pre season so not this year but definitely the next he could easily be he equivalent of a top 5 pick....

Does anyone have Adrian Dodoro's number maybe I could text him to draft this kid....

OH P.S a big No to the Ginger Ninja in green, only been 2 good gingers in my time Darren Bewick and Michael Voss.

For the Tiges Snoop, Houli will be taken in the PSD and Miller will be a Mature age Rookie!
Tiges have already made that well known to the fans and public!

Hardwick actually said it again on friday on SEN, so that mean we will pass on our last pick!

Snoop who apart from darling do you think could become a strong body all round aka a pav goodes Goddard. (yes I know these players are rare but do u see anyone who could become that player)

See the Nick Stevens comparison........
Re the gingers......Adam Cooney, Dustin Fletcher, Brad Hardie come to my mind and what about the great Gary Moorcroft.

Tom Lynch - most likely to become a Pav like player for mine.

Others more Goddard / Hodge like are;

Ryan Lester
Aaron Mullett
Alex Browne
Aaron Young
Cam O'Shea

Thanks Snoop for a good read.

I wont claim to know enough about the players to judge, but for Richmond you've used pick 2,3 & 5 on players who you put at HBF....With Deledio, Newman and Connor playing there already ( and a fair chance Houli will be added to that ), it's probably one of the areas we're OK already.

Yes, it's arguable that Lids can/should move back into the midfield, but it looks like Hardwick wants him playing the Hodge style 'quarterback' role, so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Snoop, top read.

However do you really think the Hawks will go for a HBF and a third tall defender with their 2nd and 3rd selections given we already have Gilham, Gibson, Murphy, Stratton, Whitecross, Chenney, Langford, Birchall, Milne, etc on our list that can play those roles already?

Would have thought we'd chase at least one genuine quick winger with one of those two selections.

Selection # 49 (GOLD COAST)
Matthew Rankine – West Adelaide/ 179cm / 70kg

Profile : Represented SA in the champs and was pretty impressive. Got a DC invite and would appeal to clubs as a quick small fwd / wingmen who is willing to take the game on. One of things that I like about the bloke is his willingness to do little things like apply fwd pressure and get up in the tackle count. In a game where ‘role players’ and structure are important it might be these little things that clubs put a lot of weight on. Skills are good and probably plays a bit taller with his leap than most at his height but he desperately needs some weight on him. Standout feature though is his ability to exit the contest and dodge 2-3 blokes doing it.
Draft Range: 30 - Rookie
Why Suns: Attacking small fwd who played well at champs and might give them some more fwd options

Pretty spot on with your description. Referring to the bolded part - well spotted. I think this is due to his outstanding vision and awareness. Never panics, is elusive. Has a good footy brain.

Good to see his stock rising in your mock Snoop. I saw Rankine play live on about 5 occasions late in the season. He was a real barometer for West, when he was on, so were they. Really struggled to assert himself in the U18s Grand Final (as did most of West key players) and subsequently they lost pretty comfortably to Glenelg. In the games they won late in the year, he was pivotal (the comeback against Port in the Qualifying final springs to mind).

Round 22 against Norwood in extremely wet conditions he was the only player on the ground taking the ball cleanly, one-touch, even some one handed scoops. :thumbsu: Keep pumping up his tyres!

Mate I did an updated one (link below) which delivered Hawks;

Lamb - small fwd with huge x factor
Tape - tall defender. talk is he will go higher than Rd 2 but not convinced
LEster - think of Hodge. Can play anywhere
Harvey - he is your super quick winger
Frost - 194cm key position player who could be fwd or back.

Snoop having followed the EF colts this year Ive taken a keen interest in these boys. Over here in the west that group of 18 year olds have been dominant for years, having gone through undefeated in the WAFL 16s carnival. They were minus David Swallow, Jamie Cripps, Alex Fassolo and Justin Monarco for the colts and still won the Colts GF easily!
I note with interest that in your original draft you had Chalwell at 78 then in the revised at 34> I am wondering why the big jump. (personally i think he has such huge potential. Interested in your thoughts

On that vane, from that team that represented East Fremantle in the WAFL 16s carnival 2 years ago, these guys may be drafted: David Swallow, Alex Fassolo, Jamie Cripps, Tyler Chalwell, Sam Menegola, Justin Monarco and Jayden Schofield.
That would be a financial windfall for Est fremantle.

Just more research - when I did the original one I hadnt seen much vision which I now have and have also had an opportunity to talk to some blokes that have seen a bit of him. I think the other thing is when you think about him he is perfect for the new rule as well. hope he lasts to us!

Monaco, Menagola and Schofield will be on the cusp.

Snoop,
Anton Hamp strikes me as a possible Rusling 'replacement'.
He's 191 cm, 80 kg, strong mark, reasonably quick on a lead and a good kick.
Would the Pies take him if he's there at 45/46?
What do you think mate?

Snoop, article in NT news today about Skinner http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2010/11/16/194331_ntsport.html suggest that WB and Melbourne are the most interested in Zeph.

Given you mentioned we had him training with us last year and overlooked him, has he really improved enough this year to warrant a change of mind about him?

Additionally, WB recruiting manager Simon Dalrymple suggested that we're looking at role players who have really strong character and can work on weaknesses, do you think Zeph fits that criteria?

Excellent thread as usual Snoop.

yeah thats an interesting comparison actually. Bit taller than Rusling was but yeah would play a very similar role.

Where he goes is interesting. The clubs most likely to take fwd talls before us would be WCE, Melbourne, Fremantle, North, Carlton, Suns so there will be a few players taken. Lynch, Darling, Cook are the standouts and should certainly be gone so its who out of Mitchell, Johnson, Barden, Menagola, Hamp, Brown, Chalwell go before our pick. My guess is one Brown, Johnson, Hamp, Barden, Menagola will be there. I think Mitchell and Chalwell will be gone.

if a role player is a disciplined player who can play spots all over the field then Zeph might not get there. Could certainly play wing / HF / Fwd Pkt but that is about it.

is actually very similar to Hill and I wouldnt call him a role player.

I hope he gets taken.....footy fans deserve to see this kid play.
