Maybe you should ponder Blood smearing, whingeing to umpires or taking dives.
Anyway we are now off topic. You are correct, Buckley is a champ as is Hird..I like Hird.
That’s just too easy and convenient. Buckley was booed in the mid 90’s. Like I said, it all reminded me of the dark old days with Buckley being booed 40 times while carrying the side. What I can’t understand is why the bloke that only chased premierships stayed. You don’t mind perpetuating that lie though do you?

As for liking players I don’t really care. In fact I don’t even mind having a few on my clubs list that I don't much like. I don’t like Aka or Gardiner but I wouldn't mind recruiting then (subject to price etc). It's footy. We are supposed to be chasing a premiership not a Nobel Peace Prize.

As for the highlighted bit it's true. Culturally we are different from, say, Americans. That’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned but then again I was brought up in this culture not theirs. Driven and ultra competitive people starts culturally with compulsory show and tell in US schools. Australians are not that way inclined and we are far more laid back although a lot less so than we used to be. Hopefully Americanisation isn’t coming but it is creeping.

? Buckley perpetuated it by saying he wanted to play in a premiership side, I couldn't care less either way but admit to finding it amusing.

   Per capita we have the most driven sports people in the world, Gold at the Olympics proves that.

When?
Look, every player wants that and every player when asked what they want out of footy will say that. Buckley did not say he left Brisbane to play in a premiership.

Highly debatable. Talent, climate, lifestyle and numerous factors influence results. You could even argue it’s cyclical. Recent success has been disproportionate but we also went through the wilderness for a while in the 70s and 80s. Then again that may have been drug related to an extent.

How do Australians react to Leyton Hewitt?

We admire never say die and fighting spirit. We don’t like in your face ultra competitiveness and brashness. We like the underdog perhaps because we see ourselves as exactly that.

What a silly thread.

It was clear when the booing started - and that wasn't Nathan's first possession.

The guy is an absolute gun footballer, but his Figjam mojo isn't accepted in Australian football teams unless you are.

While his win-at-all costs mentality drives him it also leads him to unsportsmanlike conduct to try and glean an advantage. His team mates and supporters accept it because he's a gun, but why would anyone be surprised that opposition supporters would react to it?

Honestly there is some crap written about Buckley but this one is just idiotic. Draft tampering?
YES Draft Tampering....Collingwood were famous for it in the early 90's. What ever happened to that champion Chalmers (i think his name was)

 He said he wanted to leave Brisbane so he could have a chance to play finals footy and he will freely admit it, he has to, it is on tape!

Chalmers was banned from going to Collingwood after making it known pre draft that's where he wanted to go. Buckley went where he was drafted. The draft was not tampered with. The club with the first pick drafted the best player and he went and played for them.

Darren Jarman refused to go to Brisbane. Nathan Buckley went and looked after them more than any reluctant player in the history of the draft has done.

Which is not what has since been claimed is it?

And he went to the club he always wanted to play for. He wanted to play for Collingwood and he stayed there in spite of their woeful list and lack of success and in spite of other offers.

Well done to the saints today, you thoroughly deserved your win against us- you simply outclassed and outplayed us all over the field today.

but one thing that really made me want to get a nuclear bomb from nth korea and launch at your members was your treatment of nathan buckley.

From the very first bounce, every time the champ got the footy you booed him. What a disgrace.

Do you guys know how to treat and respect champions? You ought to be ashamed as you have no class or sportsmanship what so ever.

Collingwood fans didnt boo robby harvey when he got a touch- because we have respect for the greats of our game.

Unlike som eof you st kilda ***,, you really ought to be ashamed.

And of course collingwood supporters never boo an opposition player/champion. Gimme a break.

Pre-draft: The only father-son pick was Jarrod Molloy for the Lions. Pre-draft picks saw Stefan Carey and Brad Seymour go to Sydney.

In the trading Brett Chalmers was swapped by Collingwood to Adelaide. Collingwood had worked so hard that their 'innovative' strategy had seen Chalmers banned and Collingwood fined. They had then drafted him, but he didn't play and the wonder-ruckman was packed off home leaving egg all over the face of the Collingwood recruiting department. :D Richard Osborne found his way to Footscray after an unsucessful season with Sydney.

Nathan Buckley effectively told the Bears who wouldn't play for them and instead of letting him enter the draft, the Bears agreed to let him go to the club of his choice, Collingwood. The Bears got little in return. Similar 'bully-boy' tactics saw Richmond persuade Fitzroy to part with Michael Gale, Paul Broderick and Mathew Dundas in exchange for Richmond skipper Jeff Hogg. Richmond won that exchange.

What the hell does that show me? As I said, Chalmers wasn’t allowed to play for Collingwood. Brisbane got two players of their choice outside the top 10 plus a draft pick. That was deal done before he’d ever kicked a ball in an AFL match. Buckley went and played the year at Brisbane and finished second in the B&F in spite of not being accepted understandably because they knew he was going to go as per his contract.

How did Buckley tamper with the draft? He got drafted and went to the club that drafted him.

Were Collingwood a party to this deal?
It was a deal between Brisbane and Buckley. He negotiated his exit. Jarmen and others just didn’t go to the club they got drafted by. Others went and left their clubs in the lurch down the track. Others used to go home card to blackmail huge contracts for staying.

If the draft was tampered with he wouldn’t have been drafted by Brisbane and went and played for them.

Read this again very, very slowly and break it down into small pieces:

Nathan Buckley effectively told the Bears who wouldn't play for them and instead of letting him enter the draft, the Bears agreed to let him go to the club of his choice, Collingwood. The Bears got little in return. Similar 'bully-boy' tactics saw Richmond persuade Fitzroy to part with Michael Gale, Paul Broderick and Mathew Dundas in exchange for Richmond skipper Jeff Hogg. It doesn't seem like a very good business deal that Brisbane arranged now was it? It also appears that the author of the article was under the same impression as the rest of the footballing world that Collingwood employed "bully-boy" tactics behind the scenes to broker the deal? If he had re-entered the draft after his year at the Bears, Collingwood would NOT have had the chance to draft him?
