How?

Don't they have picks 7, 20 something and 40 something?

To hit the draft hard, you need picks.

To get picks, they're going to have to trade something of note.
Thats actually normal for normal teams.

You know , the ones without freebie handouts.

Sounds like you are blaming injuries on your season.
In the last 7 years St Kilda has won no less than 10 games and no more than 11 games each season.
Treadmill Running GIF by Peloton

Fist pump for going from pick 5 to 7, treadmill team.

Playing our reserves side you fell over the line. Saints are going nowhere fast, Ross and the saints are a perfect fit
You talk as if even with your regular players in, it would make a difference. You won 3 of your last 9 games. Those 3 wins were against Richmond, North and last week West Coast.

Your players are mentally weak. They have had everything to play for (what were the saints playing for?), and as we all expected, failed again under pressure.

Next year will be the Bloos 30th anniversary since their last premiership, and who knows how long since a legitimate premiership….

Voss probably won’t even get to see the end of 2025.

Good chance we get a compo pick for Battle in the top 10 or 20.

SOS will try and trade deeper into the draft.

There is talk Membery and a few others will be shopped around. That may not get us great picks but Dalrymple has show he can make the most of those 3rd round types in the past.

Wouldn’t you be better off keeping Battle unless you get a top 7 or 8 pick?

Probably but we won't get much say in the matter.

It would be a short to medium term blow for sure but we do have some depth down back with Arie hopefully developing more over the next few seasons. If we could use that top 10 pick to get a gun mid it may be a long term win.

Bombers fans with their typical loser mentality. Talk about a club that has become totally irrelevant, other than giving us all a few laughs.

It’s sad that everyone seems to forget they even exist.
lmao you're a stupid **** if you can't see st kilda are a treadmill club.

So is Essendon.

At least Richmond are going to rebuild the correct way after that Taranto/Hopper debacle.

You’re replying to a Collingwood supporter… he’s just punching down on your club and your going the saints again, living rent free it seems.

Also Richmond remains to be seen, going complete bottom out they way it looks like they’re going to is unprecedented, closest we’ve seen is north and that’s not exactly smashing it as yet.

So you agree with me that the Bombers are a sad club continuing to go nowhere?

Great. What a bright spark….

17 free kicks to 15, yes horrible.

**** me this is clutching.
Come on mate... the free kick count means nothing. At one point it was 7-1 and Stocker was tackling Cripps off the ball at every ball up - nothing. Acres takes a clear mark, and has his arms chopped, and it's play on. A simple tackle by Hewett bring the player to ground, no force and no slinging motion - dangerous tackle. It was laughably one sided until the last quarter.

So it means nothing until it's convenient to blame for your loss?

FWIW, I agree they must get picks in the first round of this Draft.

Realistically though, unless you're Joel Selwood or Nick Daicos - you're not going to get any real bang for buck from these draftees for 2 years at least. And those guys had champions around them to take the heat in their first two years, which fast tracked them. St Kilda don't have that luxury.

If they can get a top 10 pick for Battle, they must take it.

Would you then package that pick and their pick 23 for a top 5 pick perhaps? Would anyone take that deal?

Aside from King, who else could they get a top 10 pick for?

FWIW, I think they're in a good spot.

They're clearly a 'good' team right now, and any cliff that is approaching won't arrive for at least 3 years you'd think?

Membrey is getting on, but I don't think there's anyone else in their best 22 that will be retired within 3 years is there?

If they can snag some high level midfield pace and X Factor in this Draft, which they should be able to do, without completely selling the farm, they'll be 'very good' within the next 2 years. If they can stay healthy, and slot Henry, Windhager and King back in - they'll probably be 'very good' next year anyway.

I don't think they'll miss Battle that much to be honest. He's a 'system defender' IMO. Outside of a defensive system he's just Ok. In a system, he's great.

You can usually find 'system defenders' pretty easily. Especially the way Lyon coaches. That's his wheelhouse.

Do lots of early picks win you a premiership?
Please use an example of a team that has had lots and lots and lots and lots of early picks.

Pretty much this.

Im not gonna defend umpiring in general this year its been deplorable (and the first 5 minutes of this game was beyond thunderdome shit, just everything play on) but it evens out. The fact it was 7-1 at one point and wound up having a total differential of +2 for us also means you had a ****ing run at some point.

Blaming it for losing the game is smooth brain shit.

?

It's not about getting picks - it's about getting good players.

Not sure if you're aware, but this thing called the Draft is a system where the best players get picked in order.

So the higher up the order your pick is, the better chance you have of getting a good player, and being able to get the kid that you have identified that you want. The more picks you have, the higher percentage that you pick a good player. The more picks you have, the higher chance you get more than one good player.

As for your question:

West Coast
Hawthorn
Geelong
Melbourne
Collingwood
Bulldogs

All those clubs won flags because they were able to get gun players from the high end of the Draft.

3: Walter
9: Read
14: Rogers....
That seems different to the system you described.

Could be hard to compete at that level.
Probably better to focus on playing good footy and ignore the calls for us to be corrupt.
