Nah im goodWhy do you come back here obsessing about the Saints?
Clearly you are infatuated by our great club because you just keep coming back
You just can't help yourself can you ..... hey its OK because you aren't alone .... plenty of other opposition supporters who like you are completely hooked on the RWnB
Nice to know the Saints are constantly in your thoughts
As a supporter of a club stuck in a myriad of mediocrity for going on two decades, you absolutely need to be picking in or develop talent to be top 5 from draft. Projection needs to equal top 5 talent from said draftThe crux of it seems to be some people think you can't get good players without picking in the top five or so.
We've hit the draft hard for four years. We're obviously hoping some of those players that we got project as top five quality players. A few that could - Nasiah, Owens, Phillipou, Wilson.
I think we'll be an interesting side to watch this year. Later part of last year we seemed to start getting the midfield sorted. Whether that translates to 2025 I guess we wait and see. I think we may surprise a few but we are now a very young side so a few injuries to senior players and it will be another tough year.
Well, their extreme racism trial was only a little over a week ago settled out of court before it hit the Federal Court. So they’re probably up and about because no one’s called them on it.Jesus ****ing Christ.
I expect the boot laying from Carlton and Essendon supporters but Hawks have surprised me.
We will be fine, the club is on the right track.
Careful this is no time for commonsense and objective views especially in this thread! If they play their cards right, I genuinely believe St. Kilda can push for flag in the next 4-5 years. A core of great young talent and seriously cashed up to land some big names. After butchering so many early draft picks they have nailed some recent picks and have even turned rookie selections Sinclair, Marshall and Wilkie into legitimate stars of the comp. Add to that great facilities, great location, great coach and a president with the plums to take on HQ and the have the building blocks for a decent era. Current list has some gaps for sure but IMO they are better placed then those around them to push up the ladder in the next 2-3 years. Having said that they are St. Kilda and always a chance to stuff things up, but they do look like a much better run club these days.
Why'd you expect us? We have been less successful than you this millenia.I expect the boot laying from Carlton and Essendon supporters
This is pretty accurate but I think the “model” (discussed to death) is to form the base from the draft and then top it off with FAs for needs. As a supporter of a club stuck in a myriad of mediocrity for going on two decades, you absolutely need to be picking in or develop talent to be top 5 from draft. The other big thing ive done some research into is the very best teams nail 3 x 100+ games players from one draft.
2024 premiers; Brisbane (2017) Rayner, Bailey, Starcevic,
2023 premiers; Collingwood (2014) De Goey, Moore, Maynard
2022 Premiers; Geelong are always going to be the outlier as a club who likes to trade players in
2021 Premiers; Melbourne (2017) Spargo, Fritsch, Petty (or 2019) Jackson, Pickett, Rivers
2020 Premiers; Richmond (probably applies to all three flags but the 2014 rookie draft was king) Short, Castagna, Lambert
2018 Premiers; West Coast (2010) Darling, Gaff, McGovern
2016 Premiers; Western Bulldogs (2010) Wallis, Liberatore, Dalhousie, Johanisen
Can even go as far to say the teams in those grand finals all had he same types of drafts.
2024 runners up; Sydney (2012) Cunningham, Rampe, Lloyd
2023 runners up; Brisbane (see above for names relatable)
2022 runners up; (see Swans names above)
2021 runners up; (see names above for Dogs)
2020 runners up; (see names above for Cats)
2019 runners up; GWS perhaps another outlier although they did have a good hit rate from there inception draft (2010) Coniglio, Patton, Haynes, Greene
point remains, the very best teams have one extraordinary draft where three+ players end up valuable AFL players. Role players or stars. Doesn't matter. The bigger the "hit" the better the chance of success.
Be careful what you wish for, 3 Riewoldt boys in the future.Just have some father/sons. It’s really not that complicated.
Be careful what you wish for, 3 Riewoldt boys in the future.
Imagine if they turn out as good as their old man.
Maybe the saints president is right and all father sons that are rated a round 1 quality should pay a fair round 1 price.
He’s never argued that their should be no father sons, it should just be a fair price.
Which I agree even if the saints had to cough up true round 1 picks for gun Riewoldt boys.
Wouldn’t surprise meFred Bassat will continue to agitate for a rule change and it’ll be gutted the year prior to the first Riewoldt and Saints won’t get em. Can see it now.
Wouldn’t surprise me
Don’t you agree ALL father son picks that are bidded on at round 1 should be matched with a round 1 pick?
Yes you’ve been blessed with 2 Ashcrofts but surely you can agree a round 1 bid should be matched with a round 1 pick not some crappy points system that can be manipulated with 4th round picks.
My view is that you just nominate the club and join with a list spot
With what pick - so no other club can nominate the player?
Has served the Lions very very well so this would be your view.

we can all begrudge that Richmond team, in the end a team most classed as average won three flags whilst "stacked" teams such as the Saints 2010's team didn't win any.I'm more excited at the idea of Wanganeen-Milera, Owens, Windhager than i would be with Short , Castagna, Lambert.
The draft is hit or miss, and some years you might get doughnuts.
I always thought you need to average 2 good keepers per year.
Saints were sitting on 0 , year after year when Trout was our recruiter/list manager.
It took too long for them to realize but we seem to be averaging more now.
