Embarrassed by our performance would be a fair assessment. Injuries to key players is always deflating but with that will give more opportunity to some players than they've ever had before.
The big test this week is trying to come up with a functioning forward line and also the key to the game is getting our bloody hands on the footy first. Blake Acres didn't dominate VFL but he is a natural clearance player. He's been poor on some defensive things at senior level this year but I'd love to give him some meaningful midfield minutes this week. We just need our mids to actually compete at clearance.
we need alot of player to get meaninful midfield minutes especially when we're getting thumped in there most weeks, its basically jack or nothing atm

Dont worry Moorabbin Ghost you lazy bastard. Ill answer it!

The boys are flat, there is a bit of soul searching going on - Not the kind where the world is falling and we are Melbourne under Neeld. The kind were there is alot of expectation and we haven't delivered. Its also not just the players but the coaches. Everyone has had the riot act read to them and expectations are set. Everywhere you look telling comments have been said. None more then Richo or other coaches not doing much media at the moment - Jamie cox has been doing this. The players are hurting because they have also let each other down. They are a very close bunch and they honestly feel like they let themselves down - the beauty is they get another week to correct the past weeks mistakes.

The coaches - If what i am expecting to happens, happens. Then they will make a number of changes. Some players will need to have a spell in the 2's. However, they are also getting hurt by robbing Peter to pay Paul. What i mean by this is the following: The coaches decided very early on, to take the short term pain and hope there is minimal of this for long term success. The decision to play Joey in the backline - Robs us of a good mid but gives Billings the chance on ball - Which robs us of him forward of the centre. At times its causing inbalance and maybe we are lacking some of our forward press from last year. But they are all working to correct it and give us a performance to carry us into the bye.

Expectation is high to correct everything this week. So i am confident because i can see them hurting and those who work at seaford could hear the hurting during the review.

Was also alarming to hear Jack Steven say things around the club are 'depressing' after the game last week, however that could have just been an off the cuff comment after a disappointing effort...

He said something similar before the match on foxfooty, something about how winning is good cause it's more fun to be around the club etc.

I think it was more off the cuff Jack Steven chill speak more than anything worth looking deeply into. A loss like that would be pretty deflating, look at us!

I reckon the majority agree with you re Blake. Just need the coach to as well.

I see him as a guy like Fyfe who might not be that interested in playing a defensive game and wants to just win the footy and pump it forward on his terms. Good coaches can get the best out of what they are working with. Blake's good points counteract some of his deficiencies. I know they have to try to teach him to be two ways but the off set is that he might not play his natural game.
My son is having the same issues at his junior footy, he plays his natural offensive inside mid game and wins nearly every ball that comes near him gets best on ground. The coach takes him aside and says you have to play tight on your opponent or you will get dragged, he plays so tight the other guy doesn't get a touch but only gets 7 possessions himself. It frustrates me at junior level too, they usually win when the ball goes forward enough.

Been hearing that club is looking to make a bunch of changes this week...some due to injury some due to form...Lew Pierce good chance to make his debut.
Hearing this where? On one of the many club social media platforms?

It's actually amazing the amount of things you've 'heard' after its come out via the club or someone on here that has ties to the club has mentioned it.

carlton really arent that great, theyve had a piss easy draw got thumped by sydney gc and norf and barely got over the line against the druggies
Watched the replay of Carlton and Lions game, Carlton have improved alot, they are playing great football. Carlton will definitely win against the Saints!

We have bounced back well this year to big losses.
Smashed by the Doggies the next week won against the Pies.
Smashed by GWS the next week won against Melbourne.
Smashed by WC the next week won against Essendon.
Smashed by Adelaide the next week......?

This season we have shown as a footy team that we get up and about the next week to try and rectify our mistakes for the following week.
Saying this we will have a lot of influential players missing this week compared to those wins.

I think it will be a close game. 10 points or less to either side.
If you go to any game this year I think you go to this one.

With a lot of outs comes opportunity.
I want to see Acres, Minchington, Lee and Wright in.
Wrights had a good month of footy in the VFL give him his shot.
Acres in the midfield switching with Minchington. Lee down back.

If our pressure is good enough they wont get many clean forward entries. When they do hopefully our structure is set and we push most of their I50 marks to the boundary. We want Casboult kicking from angles not straight in front.

I think our forward line will be fine. Just have to put Weller on Docherty and Wright on Simpson to stop their drive from half back.

With so many older players out, I want to see most of the younger guys stand up. Its up to them, its going to be up to them in the future. No better week to start then Sunday.

Saints by 5 points.

We had Geelong under control with two men down for most of the game. I guess that doesn't count.

Underrate us at your own peril. I'm sure your players aren't.

Geelong are a one man midfield. Neutralize him and its an open game.

Meanwhile we have no midfield so whatchya gonna do smart guy?

Get Casboult, Kruezer and Gorringe to go shoulder to shoulder in the middle of the ground, and do a riverdance.

Biggest concern going into this week is defence. Watching last weekend, there's a reason that Fisher and Dempster have been our best two defenders this year... they are the only ones with the strength to win a one-on-one contest against their player (apart from Geary). Players such as Roberton and Webster are beaten a bit too easily by their men; would like to see both of them strengthen up a bit. We'd love a guy like that McGovern from WC, who absolutely beasted us a few weeks ago. As is often said... Carlisle will help.

The Blues are playing with serious belief; it's hard to know exactly where the Saints are at though as we've been very inconsistent all year. Thank christ our only remaining interstate trip is to the Gold Coast.

A few mids need to pull their fingers out this week. Namely Dunstan, Armo, Ross, Newnes. They are the coal-face and we know that if they play well, we play well. The inconsistency of these players and our midfield in general is the main indicator of the inconsistency of our entire side. Carlton have a decent midfield, so these guys will be up against it for sure. I'm hoping that Acres gets another crack at the firsts and has a good game.

Despite Carlton's good form, the game is very winnable. If we can get good supply to the forwards then we're a good shot. Bloody shame that Paddy is out though.

Unfortunately with the number of changes we'll be forced to make, I doubt we'll beat the Blues this time but can hopefully beat them next time around on August 7th at the MCG.

Blues by 20 points :(

I actually reckon it was the kids who played shit and we fell apart. Steven, Savage and Armo were the only ones with 20+ possessions. Joey was crap but the others just injured.

Armo hardly touched the ball when it matters in the first, Dempster was struggling before injury, Roo did get injured as I said, Steven and Savage wasn't who I meant. Gilbert was terrible as was Joey, Fisher was out. The point was it was a sign of what may happen in 2 to 3 years if the kids don't come on.

And as you said the young kids struggled and that was the complete point of the post. The older guys struggled or were injured or out so the young kids struggled.

This isnt the same Carlton that you've come to expect. Even in those losses the lads never dropped their heads and stuck fat with the structures. North and Sydney are contending so you'd expect those results and we faced a fully fit GC who were in great form at the time.

Good luck for the game, but don't expect this Carlton side to roll over. We've proven we can close out tight games and win with a shortened bench. Last years Carlton wouldn't have won those games.
