Re: Icke has left

Picking Davies for the WC final

He's not the only one on the match committee. Dare I suggest he quite possibly doesn't have the greatest pull on the final selections. He may have been against the Davies selection yet got outvoted.

Give me an *IN GAME* example. You really can't which really frustrates me when I hear the "Ratts an inadequate coach.... lacks tactical nous to win a premiership." Some of the greatest baloney ever spun.

Brisbane final -- gave Vossy a coaching clinic. Alas, they had Brown and Bradshaw and over four quarters they proved to be the final difference. Had we had Jamison it very may well have been a different story. Alas, we had to go with T-Bird and Bower.

Sydney final -- they were reaming us then he gave someone who is widely considered to be one of the best coaches of the modern game, Paul Roos, a coaching clinic. We would have won that game had we taken our chances. It wasn't Ratts that failed to take the chances -- his coaching GAVE us them -- it was a few brain farts, poor finishing and an inability to mark when the game was there to be won (how many times did we drop marks near the goal square that would have resulted in certain goals).

Essendon final -- that was a well executed machine that dismantled Essendon. Aside from a few early goals the Blues were dominant throughout the entire performance systematically picking apart each and every flaw in that Essendon team.

West Coast final -- We went in without a number of our stars in WA and we can walk away feeling cheated of victory. Ratten again coached his ass off. Ratten's coaching unearthed the weaknesses to the West Coast game plan that aided Geelong in tearing them apart the following week. Much of what Geelong did against them is what Ratten got out of our boys.

He has NOT been outcoached in a final. Premierships are often decided by coaching in finals. Until he lays an egg and is clearly outcoached then any and all suggestions that Ratten is a poor coach who hasn't the tactical nous to win premiership football is completely absurd.

Re: Icke has left

article just says that Craig has informed the club he wants a decision sooner rather than later...not that we have pulled out or he is going elsewhere...

Shit website is Shit

FORMER Adelaide coach Neil Craig looks set to be Carlton's football manager in a shock Blues move that forces Steven Icke out.

So Neil Craig's got 2 jobs has he?

I wouldn't take any notice of any articles on the Sportsnewsfirst website numb3rs.

HUN has confirmed Craig to the Dees.

I am relieved that we didn't get Craig and very disappointed that we let Icke go, I thought he was doing a pretty good job.

For those who know these sort of things who are some of the best that we should/could chase???

The real reason Icke's gone is that there just isn't that much for a football manager to do since we got rid of Fev. He's been twiddling his thumbs for two years, making a pest of himself around the coffee machine.

We didnt let him go he resigned

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/4311/newsid/124375/default.aspx
The Carlton Football Club wishes to advise that General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke has resigned from the Club.

Icke, who has been at Carlton since March 2007, has decided to further develop his professional career and is looking at opportunities within the AFL and outside.

“We appreciate Steven’s decision to further develop his career and understand his need to expand his knowledge and experience with a different organisation,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swann

Good luck to him

He may have resigned but that doesn't necessarily mean that he wasn't forced (pushed) out. A resignation often enables the employee to save face, particularly in high industry such as professional sports. If it was a conflict between the head coach and Icke, which we know it was, rather than a performance issue then it only makes sense for Icke to come out looking as good as possible.

My boss does that with disgruntled employees all the time... So many bad employees have left over the years, but cant recall anyone ever being fired lol...

Big loss. He and Swann formed a brilliant negotiation team during some very tricky trade week negotiations.

Why on Earth were the media thinking we wanted Craig to replace Icke? It's a totally different job. Bizarre. They'll make up anything to sell papers I guess.

:)

I may be proven wrong but it seems obvious that Malthouse will be getting the job. He has hinted that he would be leaving Collingwood & not be coaching again.

Carlton has the money to pay him what he would expect & now has the job open he would be after.

Getting Malthouse would be a great move IMO. But I don't think it's going to happen.

Re: Icke has left

Again, I'm going to propose the same thing that constantly gets ignored each and every time this theory that Ratts doesn't have the tactical nous to win a premiership gets put out there. Please, provide for me an example (just one), of Brett Ratten being clearly out coached in an AFL Finals game.

Our finals since Ratten has coached

2009 - Vs Brisbane @ Gabba
2010 - Vs Sydney @ SCG
2011 - Vs Essendon @ MCG; Vs West Coast @ Subiaco
Only for the sake of accuracy, the bolded was actually at Homebush.
