I am sure if it is for medical reasons he is not being forced but safeguarding his lifeI am led to believe that if a player is contracted for next year, but is forced to 'retire', most/part of the money he is owed for next year, will not come under the salary cap..

Sad news if true. I don't think we ever saw his best at Carlton, given that we were always being smashed when Nick was in his prime.
If he does end up retiring it will definitely be to the detriment of the team. I've no doubt we're a better team with an in form Stevens (as he was towards the end of the season), with his footskills and goal kicking ability.
Disappointing if true...
