Assuming it's DGB?

Edit: is it either:
one more year (1/3 meaning how many years he has to run)
two more years
one of three re-signings early on

Edit: Intra-club match this Tuesday apparently. No idea what time though so if anyone else has any more info that’d be great so that some folks on here can get down for a look! And report back here

🤞🤞

In before Hartigan, Morrison, Howe and Phillips are best on while Maginness, Ward and DGB all struggle to find it.

Downie debuted before Hartigan?

Was that the weird concussion sub thing in play??

Debut (named) in same game but alphabetical order prevails?

Must have been how they did it.

Noone should be first picked at the current time. If players have their names pencilled in it means we have learnt nothing from the last 4 years.
We need ruthless selection based purely on form and structure, just like vandenberg (who was captain at the time) being forced to play a third of the season at vfl level.

He is currently best 22, that's for sure, however, I'd hope if his output dropped, he'd be dropped

Agreed but I'm saying is if his forms isn't up to scratch i hope he then isn't getting pick on "reputation"! Just like Stratton was late in his career.
Currently his form has him one of the best small forwards in the game and from what i have seen in pre season its not changing this year

Yep, really weird discussion to be having.

If he plays a whole bunch of stinkers and he’s holding out someone in the 2s, then of course things change, but I don’t know how that’s any different from selection policy from the last 15 years….

lots of positive talk about Sammy, new recruits firing, older players engaged and invigorated - I gotta hand it to the marketing team, I’m excited for the upcoming season

Meh Kinda GIF by Cultura

His numbers were down on his career averages last year. May not mean much but at his age, he is a year by year proposition.
Weren't our numbers down on his career average, last year?

I'm sure you watched the games & saw our garbage forward entries? And note that our KPF are inexperienced, impacting Breust's capacity to work off them etc.?

I'll not stress on his numbers just yet. I'm more worried about us using him (& Wingard) effectively in that forwardline.

I am not stressing about the numbers - his scoreboard impact remains high. However he has reached the age when declining productivity can set in. His numbers need to be monitored. Numbers were up for Wingard and Moore so it may be we are getting a bit more balance in the forward half more than entry quality.

Me and my teenagers are in there as well.

My observations from what was a family day was that Duke gives Worpel a run for his money in contests and has a presence.
Ward is just so fast in mind and neat with disposal. He looks like a lad that has had two or three preseasons already.
Will Day doing drills for touch makes the difficult look easy.
Mitch Lewis told us he has been eating heaps since Christmas and he is in ripping nick with added size.
Ned Reeves has also put on size and is not a bad kick for someone his size.
Finn misses kicks regularly as opposed to Moore who has vision and the ability to hit them.
Fionn the Irish lad didn't look out of place considering he has just arrived.
McEvoy and Shiels (and Sam)run like they are old blokes whilst Gunston runs smooth over the ground. Hopefully he can handle some physicality.
Harry Morrison enjoys the work and puts in. There maybe a bit of a point to prove this year.
DGB is a funny bugger and has "good bloke" in spades. Potential captain qualities is the years to come.

The last observation that stood out to me was how quickly the lads stopped sweating post training. I reckon they might be fit.
I havent seen the lads up close for a while and this current side has the feel of a young side that will be dominated by bigger experienced teams.

Well worth the drive out to Waverly for the morning.

What is it you don't like about this post, BIGHAWK23 ?

Yeah dont agree with a fair chunk of this

But observations are always good

The Finn comment I dont feel has merit, as he dosent miss kicks regularly
And the dominated by bigger bodies comment from a open training session/family day scenario just isnt correct
The dominated by bigger bodies comments I believe will be reality. We are a couple of years off competing with teams filled with senior bodies.

Name a midfielder that will play rd 1 that is physically underdeveloped?

There is a difference between being dominated by bigger bodied midfielders and competing with other midfields

Mind you said underdeveloped midfield beat

Brisbane
Dogs
and drew with Dees

In the rebuild, the pure grunt will come from youngsters, Sicily Hardwick Mitchell and bigboy, and to a lesser extent such as howe.

The youngsters will have their highlights, bit maintaining four quarters for a whole season? There’s gonna be some pain.

Anyway weren’t our issues - maintaining intensity for four quarters - speed and stamina - shocking kicking, particularly from midfield
