Autopsy Swans end our 2024 season

I called the game was over when Burton took a mark on outer HBF, near NE corner of the square with 27 seconds of the first quarter to go.

Instead of going down the line towards the outer boundary line and kill the clock, we had the momentum, he goes for a 45 degree kick to Narkle, puts it up high , a tall swans player spoils, nother swans player comes in and attacks ground ball, Narkle on the ground tries to get hold of it, umpire pays a BS free and they quickly get it to Papely, He marks, siren goes and he nails the goal.

We handed momentum to Swans.

We have not learnt a thing.. Thats why I knew the game was over.

The comments about "didn't come to play" are bewildering to me. Dominated the centre bounce, and plus inside 50s however blind Freddy could see the kryptonite of the game plan was 50 meter 30 meter high bombs into the 50...
what the actual **** is that game plan?
We won the ball at the coalface, but the defensive pressure was non existent. We let them get comfortable and work into their uncontested play groove. It was a completely different level of effort to the Hawks game.

I can't express enough how bored I am with Geelong and Sydney.

And now we have a resurgent Hawthorn to look forward to.

Don't know why I still bother with this league.

I am PRAYING the Lions get up. I cannot think of a more boring grand final of every possible 18 team combination than Geelong vs Sydney. Sydney make one every few years because of the biggest leg up in the AFL and Geelong are just boring ever since they got over the hump in 2022 and will never be bad as long as Chris Scott is coach. I really wanted Port to win for just something different.

Once again, why didn’t we have music and athmosphere on our goals like Sydney? Same with Hawks last week! Strange.

It’s a real shame we are a Vic club where we get 10 free ins row and frees infront of goals to help us reclaim momentum.

Did he get them to ground ? One hand grabs to the jumper don't count.
He's the softest captain we've ever had.
You don't want to take them to the ground mate - you might get rubbed out.
You know, JBF only had 5 tackles over the same 3 games - against the 20 for Rozee.

Didn't mention that...

That's right, too busy he's carrying the side

He missed SEVERAL. Go back and watch the tape and watch players run through his tackles constantly. Rozee is a horrendous tackler, he costs us regularly when he has opponents done cold but they just waltz through his weak efforts.
He's had more tackles in this finals series than any other Port players, what does that say for everyone else?
You go back and watch the tape and tell me how many other players have missed SEVERAL.

Really sad end for Port tonight. Deserved better. Seems to me that the biggest issue is delivery into the forward line - the high bombs give the forwards no hope and there seems to be no structure going forward.

Quintessential Hinkleyball.

You cannot blame the players when they have been told to play that way.

I cannot believe the coaches reverted to bomb it in when it has always failed.

I didn't even feel upset or disappointed, because it was so obvious what would happen. Just angry.

Graham Arnold yesterday:
“I followed my gut and have gone with the decision of, after 40 years service and six years at the helm of coaching the Socceroos, that it’s time for change and time for me to move on.

“I do believe that I’ve got the maximum out of this group of players. When I say that, someone else can come in and get more. Myself, and the staff, have done everything we possibly can.”

Kerny has been there literally twice as long. He has no shame whatsoever. Happy to keep collecting his paycheque and run the club into the ground. Why didn't he quit post match? ****ing loser

He was stopping too, a few contests he stopped when he could have still been in play

Swans kicking was elite. Hardly missed a target. They created space ,we always looked under pressure which created fumbles ,and poor disposal. Some of the turnovers that resulted in goals were simply unforgivable. Our forwards were shite, not just Dixon. Why is our forward line always so crowded while Sydneys at crucial times was so open? Their mids worked their butts off to get back while ours coasted. Mental pygmies

I did enjoy the booing from the handful of Port fans still there in the last qtr when Hinkley came on screen. Was nearly drowned out by the cheering and laughing from Swans fans.
Where I was it was Sydney fans

They made those kicks because our pressure was ratshit again.

Swans kicked 9.1 to our 4.6 in the first half and that set it up. Scoreboard aside we never looked in it and we were playing catch up footy. It was a game of contrast as Sydney played direct football and marked just about everything while we ****ed around with handballs that were not on and bombed it in high and gave our forwards no chance.

For once the stats tell the story, the Swans took a staggering 131 marks to our 70 and I reckon a good proportion of those marks were contested. They also had 356 disposals to our 281. Eight of our starting 22 players did not get into double figures with possessions. Stats do not always tell the story but those stats do. We played Hinkleyball while the Swans played football and if anything we could have/should have lost by more!

That is 4 losing prelims in 12 seasons under Ken. The really galling thing is that outcome was so ****ing predictable.

Good luck to Sydney hope they win it, do not want another Victorian team winning. Go Sydney, go Brisbane.

That is it for 2024, so unless something extraordinary happens we move on to more mediocrity in 2025. :( :(

Nah u can blame the players..

Their skill errors, their softness, lack of pressure, failing to handle moments, missed tackles.. plenty to blame

I’m not letting them off.. same culprits each big game.
