Over time I’ve learnt to never trust the media in regards to Sydney. I could be paranoid but I keep getting this feeling they need the usual bad guy in their narrative for the year. So I expect them to build Sydney up & then piss & moan about academies and how we’ve cheated our way to success after a period of time.

That is true, but it still took Pyke to implement the plan.

Pyke’s strength is opposition analysis and structure (particularly without the ball)

He has taken how we have wanted to play for the last two years and tweaked the structure to suit the new rules.

Our DNA is still to defend one on one and we are better at it than almost anyone else, but we are now more aggressive further up the field to force the turnover.

In order to do that you have to have structure behind the ball otherwise it just unravels.

Sydney are getting exactly what they wanted from Pyke, his ability to look at the game from the outside last year and come up with a plan to exploit the new rules.

It's pretty funny there is barely any outcry of NGA, its just astounding how little they know about the game outside of the bubble.

Wicks should not even be included in the Academy discussion as he was taken as a rookie pick, meaning every club in the AFL overlooked him 3 or 4 times during the national draft.

Ours is producing talent right now.

Therefore action must be taken, right now.

The only thing the AFL thinks about more than a year in advance is how many decades until the grand final contract at the MCG expires.

We still have the same salary cap the other 17 teams have, so people need to chill about academies. We may have drafted a bunch of kids from the academy, but keeping them all long term is another thing altogether.

People outside of Sydney are jumping at shadows at the moment.
