I didn't think the last few weeks we had been Buddy-centric.
Nice to hear that some Swans families may quarantine at the Gold Coast before travelling onto Melbourne.
We haven't been. And most of the kicks to Bud on the weekend were there, he just couldn't slot them or take the mark.

Alex Keath stuck to Bud like glue. He couldn't get one on one. Makes it tough. Commentators said he played on for his goal. He fumbled the mark and recovered it off the Dog. Ump called (correctly) play on. Only Bud was listening.

Click on The Monday Means Test with David King and there's some good analysis of the Swans starting at 7 mins. King has been hot on the Swans all year, has some interesting points to make about our positives and his reservations about us going all the way. Nice to see something different from the usual flip flop Monday analysis across the AFL media.

Made an awful lot of sense did Kingy.
We gave up 2 points on front half turnovers. Ben Mathews? The two runners? Dogs weak? All the above?
But he's right about one thing. We need to do better at clearances. I'm sure the coaches and players are working on it.

Whoohoo!!! Once upon a time we used to be 16th...but 2021 is a shiny new year!!

Thanks Ticky009, love your work! Just had myself a most enjoyable little media binge! ;)

AFL and Sydney and GWS trying to organise families into a hub
On the road: State governments involved in Swans, GWS exit plan

Swans chairman Andrew Pridham told The Age and the Herald that the league had been working day and night to find a resolution.
“This is a very challenging situation for players, staff and, in particular their families,” Pridham said.
“We are working incredibly hard with the AFL and various state governments to find a solution that can best ease their collective burden. We are mindful that all Australians are facing significant challenges due to no fault of their own. To this end we understand why restrictions are vitally important and are grateful for the efforts of so many people in assisting us in continuing to showcase the sport we all love.”

Article also mentions Tom Hickey talking about son Lou and pregnant wife Chloe - how last year they were in a Gold Coast hub

The short history of AFL succession plans
...

In the modern era, that is hardly a forerunner to success. As coaches, Buckley, Michael Voss, James Hird and Brett Ratten all struggled to replicate what they achieved as a player.
Only Worsfold, Roos and Luke Beveridge have won premierships this century at the club they played for and it’s no disrespect to Beveridge to say he wasn’t an iconic player at the Western Bulldogs.

...
SYDNEY
• Ladder position year before handover: 5th.
• 2012: John Longmire succeeds Paul Roos, coaches first AFL game aged 40 years, 86 days.
• Longmire at Sydney: 250 games – 153 games, 2 draws, 95 losses. Winning percentage: 61.60%; 1 premiership, 3 grand finals.
• Roos at Sydney: 202 games – 116 wins, 2 draws, 84 losses. Winning percentage: 57.92%; 1 premiership, 2 grand finals.

Age and experience does not equal success. In my workforce there are plenty of more experienced and older people who I would not want in management level positions because I know they could not handle it.

One thing that article failed to point out - Clarko was 36 when he took the job. Mitchell already has more experience and is older than Clarkson at the same stage.

The club just can't expect instant success. The succession plans which failed were the ones expecting instant success from a new coach. That rarely happens no matter how experienced the coach is

Footy Classified mentioned last night Sydney were in talks about bring family to Victoria for the players/staff

Also mention of the Swans player's wife expecting twins and at 32 weeks now. Not sure what will happen there

Twins often born before full term, so possibly as little as 4 weeks away. Hickey's wife BTW. If her family is in QLD they might be able to gather in Vic. Twins - OMG!

Actually, if the AFL decide to hub the families in QLD first before sending down to VIC, I'd imagine she'd stay up in QLD where both their families are.

Makes sense. I wonder if she can fly at 32 weeks. All a bit complicated. Hope for the best. If he needs to miss a game or two, so be it. Just hope it isn't a final!

Horse's first season was 2011 wasn't it?

Just checked footywire (not this ol' brain), but I think the smh article is correct as 2012 is John's first season as coach

Hm, I was overseas in 2010 and I'm almost certain that was Roos and Kirk's last season at the club.

EDIT: Footy wire also has 2011 as his first season in the link you posted. :p

A lot will depend on how healthy her and babies have been as all her medical plans would be Sydney based.

I agree with Kingy. Contesteds and clearances have been our weakness for a couple of years. We're really an inversion of the Roos-Longmire era Swans, weak on the inside great on the outside. That's one reason why Hickey has been so good for us - statistically he's just about our best clearance player. Give it a year or two and we should be one of the stronger clearance sides.
