There is zero issue here whatsoever. If we got more current veteran players on broadcast (not on their own teams) who are knowledgable on the game, that would go a long way to improving the current commentary product. I'm fairly sure players don't get paid for interviews (I could be wrong) and that would apply to commentary/TV commitments.

Plus, Phil Davis is basically off the list/on absolute peanuts (20-odd games since the 2019 Grand Final).
I don't mean interviews or going onto a show as a once off as a segment. But could easily see a "hey, take $150k off your contract but you'll commentate on 7 and have a job straight after" type of deal which to me is a salary cap rort.

Same with the 2 players that do weekly segments on 360. If they rotated those players around, I wouldn't have an issue with it

Plus Davis is a shitcampaigner commentator, imo

Here you go - all 10 straight goals

Little bit of Barras & Melican talk

Here are the 10 straight goals people

The discussion on Swans and Barass amounts to a list of all the defenders the Swans might go after (Mackay, Howard, Tomlinson, etc) all of whom are under contract. So, none the wiser.

I think what annoys me in these discussions is they really take the easy option. Like, is there anyone who might not be getting a game in the lower leagues who hasn't even played firsts we might come at.

our glaring midfield clearance and contested possession woes were called out on 360

Montagna said its the only weak part of our game with everytbing else being up to scratch

I think he said what most of us are thinking that if we’ve just got an avg midfield we woild be gunning for a prelim rn we are bottom 2/3 in those areas

Also showed vision of how our mids dont position correctly to win the ball

I think its instructional though. If we play back shoulder then opposition mids cant burst out the front so it gives our backline more tome to setup. Problem is even when we win the ruck tap we never get first touch
Just watched it with earplugs at the ready in case they started going on about stats but Leigh Montagna went BANG

Spot on with everything, our midfield set up horribly and it can be fixed.

Noticed an interesting snippet in that article relating to Jack Buller;

It was previously reported by Channel 7's WA reporter that Buller had extended his initial 6 month contract;

Obviously one is incorrect.
I'm hoping it's Riley Beveridge & AFL.com
Very likely is Beveridge, he's not that great on his Sydney knowledge.

Akin to the forward situation as well Franklin retired any forward OOC or with a year left linked to Sydney.

Naughton and Mckay none of those remotely have a chance to come here.

Amazing how much more interesting press conferences can be when the majority of questions don't revolve around Buddy.

McLean's 50th, his journey to AFL and plenty of forward-line insights

Beat me to it caesar88

For those who want a quick summary. I must say, if you have a spare 10 minutes, listen to the man speak. Easily one of the most enjoyable and insightful press conference of the swans all year.

  • Reasons for improved consistency: Greater maturity, increased weight during the pre-season, thanks Franklin and Ried for the help.
  • Acknowledges that he isn't the most athletic player but has really worked hard on the second efforts in ruck contests.
  • Loves the dual forward/ruck role. Sounds like a true competitor.
  • Acknowledges his dad, Guy McKenna and Derm (played with his son) for guiding him in his early years. Can certainly see why Derm loves praising McLean.
  • Asked about his future beyond 2023: Manager in talks with the team and focus just on playing. Though he did mention he wants to repay the faith the club has shown in selecting him and getting him to where he is today. This makes me feel like his more likely to stay than go (and I really want him to stay)

We know Derm loves praising Derm. Did you mean Derm loves praising McLean? Which he does quite a bit.

When the pundits talk about Sydney being Buddycentric they are massively projecting. They've been so Buddycentric they haven't noticed we are already prepared for life without Buddy with a three-headed monster forward line that has a played a couple of dozen games togehter in various permutations. Add in Papley, Heeney, Hayward, Wicks and it's the strongest part of our team. But hey let's keep asking if Sydney are ready for the post-Buddy era.

Haha, was meant to say McLean.

Quite possible that the club and Buller have agreed but can't officially sign until the slots are empty by official retirements or delistings. Ditto for Arnold.

Watching on the couch now. They've spent 10 minutes on Daicos, 10 minutes on Collingwood, 10 on Essendon, 10 on Carlton. Started fast forwarding through to see if I could pinpoint the 32 seconds they'll dedicate to Sydney but couldn't find it so I'm giving up. I'm sure there's some ripping insights though.

Edit: Okay went back and found it. 21 minutes in if anyone cares

Only just watched but I noticed Browny mentioned the eventual premiers only lose 1 game at most in the last month. Obviously forgot about 2012 when we went 1-3.

That's all well and good and well done Montanga but what does it say for our coaching panel because lets face it its a recurring nightmare not just isolated to 2023.

That’s wonderful and what a humble guy. I really would love to see him have success and hopefully with us.

You do get the sense of a slight relief almost that Bud is gone. Some might take that the wrong way but I think it’s great knowing that McLean, McDonald and Amartey will get every opportunity going forward and I’m sure it is exciting for them.

Absolutely, would be a great bonding thing for three guys all under 25 to know they could potentially spend the better part of the next decade anchoring the forward line together. Not many guys get that kind of opportunity in footy.

Submitted team and Errol and Logan are in the 18 however in being completely unbiased could only put Chad on the bench. His season hasn't been as good as last year. Errol is VC.
Why be unbiased? I picked all of them and have Errol as captain and Logan as vice. Sadly I couldn't find spots for Nick Daicos or Nic Martin.
Definitely Errol and Logan 100% deserve their spots. Competition elsewhere pretty hot.
