I wouldnt want an All Sydney GF. I just have a feeling they would beat us the 4th time round šŸ˜
I'd be more worried about another Geelong belting.

We are ninth on the AFL membership count (a record 73757).

Admittedly a host of clubs set new records, but a 12.9% increase for us (bettered only by Brisbane).

Where the club has come from in crowd numbers, memberships and just supporter engagement, from when the Swans relocated to Sydney, is amazing. :)

And how good that they used a picture of the Swans crowd for the article;

EDIT; And before I get hauled up, yes us Vics and those around the country have done their part as well.
OK bedford ?

I was disgusted when I heard that. He's always been a Swans hater

I've never forgiven him over his comments on Goodes
Not one to defend McGuire, but he wasnā€™t referring directly to Swans, he was referring to the old days in general. It was a a throw away comment that was very benign really.

Yeah I think in this specific example it's not anti-Swans, but it IS an example of McGuire joshingly talking about the 'good old days' without really thinking through the implications of what he's saying and how it appears to be advocating for it.

Itā€™s a team effort

There's been a lot more straight sets exits in the last decade than previously though hasn't there? I remember back in the day it was virtually unheard of, but now there's almost one a year.

Last 10 years in straight sets:
2023 - melb and port
2022 - melb
2021 - bris
2020 - nil
2019 - bris
2018 - hawks
2017 - nil
2016 - hawks
2015 - swans
2014 - freo and geelong

Years where an elimination final winner got to the GF:
2016 (dogs), 2019 (gws), 2021 (dogs)

Won the GF:
2016 - dogs

Years that the team that won their QF won the GF:
14. 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23

9 out of 10 GF winners came our of top 4
7 out of 10 GF QF winners won the GF

Anything can happen, but a hell of a lot has to go right if you are out of the top 4

Fixed (just like the game)

McGuires throw away comments are one of his biggest problems - they are usually horrific.

From memory, and I could be wrong, Ralphyboy is a Carlton fan.

I thought the most vile part was when I think Bartels comments on Buckley's sportsmanship in helping Heeney to flip on to his back/side on his return to earth and McGuire snig-gers and ruefully says something like "once upon a time you would have pole-driven him into the ground".
McGuire really is quite a vile human being. Imagine if it was Daicos, heā€™d be having an out of body experience.

Theory is that the bye weekend before finals has evened it up a tad for the bottom 4 of the 8 - at least the phenomenon of straight sets exits appears to coincide with the introduction of the bye, so there is correlation if not causality.

Who knows but going by the years on the bottles, nothing memorable happened in the first 100 odd years of our existence. Funny way to celebrate 150
Bird in hand wine is good, but I donā€™t the think it is worth $ being charged, and it doesnā€™t cost much these days to make specialised labels. So itā€™s a bit of a furphy.

We really need to be thinking a bit longer term in regards to crowd sizes. Sellouts could be a regular thing in a few years. Would be great if the capacity at the SCG could be increased
