Some are saying dark red , it's maroon . Why even go away from our colours and seriously use white because of the heat
I thought maybe the maroon was because Qatar Airways is one of our sponsors and that is their colours. I wouldn't like it but that would at least explain it from a corporate, marketing perspective. But then Qatar doesn't even appear on the jumpers anyway. So it's just an illogical and indefensible colour change that achieves literally nothing except reminding me (and other fans it seems) of the team that flogged us in a GF two months ago.

I think some fans including myself have probably been a bit hyperbolic in terms of shitting on the club this off-season, taking out our frustrations where they don't belong.

However if I was a high-up at a club who knew we had an angry and frustrated supporter base right now, I would probably not make the decision to completely deviate from the club's core colours??? Especially towards a colour very similar to the team that belted us in a grand final??? Just a thought...
Agree. There was a polo in the same colours years ago

Incredibly common with professional sportsmen/ women, just over 33% of professional athletes suffer from depression and/ or anxiety after their career ends (and that's just those who admit to it).

You have to be wired a certain way to be an athlete, plus multiple athletes develop an addiction to dopamine (which can be generated from large amounts of training).

Take away the training/ structure from their lives, then add in a likely dopamine shortage and you have a recipe for depression (and that is before the added pressure of sports, fans and everything else).

Oh gosh yes, I think you're spot on... on a somewhat related note, I listened to the audiobook of Dani Laidley's autobiography and I'm not surprised that her life spiralled out of control after her coaching career ended as she no longer had that structure... it was a disgrace how she was treated by Vic Police and things should never, ever have gotten to that point. I highly recommend the book btw - it's a real eye-opener. I never really liked her when she was at Norf (I've long had an aversion to anything blue and white and I dare say I'm not the only one on this board who feels that way) but when she came out publicly in 2021 I thought it made every sense... it goes to show you never really know what's going on with some people...

NOT OUR cOLOURS

I wouldn't change our main jumper that we play in in a million years (in fact I even prefer the south one).

But that is a stunning training top, I would totally wear something like that at training.

It's such a nice colour that a footy club in Queensland should consider making it their team colours!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one bemused by the colour of the training top. I noticed this year that the maroon/dark red colour crept onto the collar and sleeve trim of the polo shirts.

Our colours are red and white and the shade of red looks amazing in the crowd and on the field. The darker red is not terrible but it just doesn't look right. It's like this year seeing the North Melbourne coaching staff wearing dark blue.

Hopefully it's only the training top that's changing.

I'm sure you're right, but this isn't one third, it's two thirds and while Mitchell doesn't give details of the 80s Swans health woes, it feels like he's talking about something more than the usual post-career blues.

Mitchell is honest enough to admit he can't isolate the causality of his own ailments, but I think he's being totally reasonable in at least requiring that the authorities give former players a better hearing than they seem to be currently receiving.

It is a small sample size here to say it is two thirds, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the number was far higher than the 34% figure that is generally reported for ex athletes - https://theconversation.com/mental-...time,experience severe mental health problems.

The average depression rate of our population is 5%, it is definitely something that needs to be researched further and looked into more.

From my personal experience 5% is underreported. Of course there is shorter term acute vs long term clinical/chronic. The lack of easily available consultation options doesn't help. Wife's stint as a Lifeline counsellor reinforced that in a very big way.

re the training gear, in the NRL pink coloured clothes is all the rage atm. I wouldn't be surprised if we went down that path...

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Psychology services are expersiv and it's not easy to get a referral.

It's also hard to get help, I know I haven't spoken to my friends or family about my issues this year

Worse still is that getting a match with a psychologist/psychiatrist can be diabolically difficult. I know someone who took 5 attempts.

Says it all really. But why now? When starting a season. Surely, we should have had time for the new coach to aclimatise to being Head Coach.

Likely he decided to jump after taking time to consider.

I don't believe we are ever going to know the reasons behind the timing, albeit from Cox being there on draft night, it appears to have been in the works for a while.

I imagine it has been in the works for a while.

They just likely waited so they could tell the players face to face.
