This is a good initiative. Inclusion is essential if AFL footy is to become a truly national sport. More needs to be done to encourage the widest possible demographic participation. Sadly, the mix of today's AFL players doesn't fully reflect our country's multicultural identity.

Soccer dominates amateur sport participation in Australia. Every kid can see themselves represented in soccer, whereas AFL footy is still predominantly played by those of white European (or indigenous) heritage. It must be hard for a SE Asian kid, for example, to identify with a senior player in the AFL or to see themselves as one day making it as a senior player. That has to start with amateur participation and clear development pathways.

Development pathways aimed at increasing diversity is something the northern acadamies might consider in order to further justify their existence. They would serve as a counter to development of predominantly white European kids through the old VFL selective schoolis pathways, which provide such rich talent pools for Victorian clubs.

It'll also be a big step forward for inclusivity in the AFL when the first openly gay player(s) feel secure and supported enough to come out to their teammates and fans. Thankfully AFLW already boasts inclusivity of sexual preference, unhindered by the archaic attitudes of the old boys club.

Fair bit of talk about stats.

The most important stat is in the “W” column and we are 2 clear of Carlton and 4 clear of the next bunch.

And re the last 8 games, we’re 7 & 1 (with the one “L” being a 1-pointer on the weekend)… Carlton & Hawks are next best with 6 & 2.
Shall we revisit now?

We wont be for long playing this way tho interesting to see if we can get back to the football we were playing earlier in the year.
So who replaces us.

Some had the Blues as unbeatable across all the lines at 8pm last night.

It’s a long season.

As a four time premiership coach said, you expect to lose every 4 weeks in a good season.

The absolute ****ing crucifixion of Heeney in the media is an absolute joke. The club should come out on the attack to highlight the difference in reporting of incidents. They should also put in a public and formal complaint with Ross Lyon making comment and potentially influencing the MRO prior to his decision.

I actually find it incredibly weird. It's as if it's Barry Hall on his fourth or fifth chance belting someone behind play with the way people are carrying on. When was the last time Heeney was suspended for anything? It's such a mild incident too.

I liked the good old days where you would get reported on Game Day and the media were not allowed to show the incident or comment on it until it went to the tribunal. If the players don’t use this absolute vitriol that has been spewed his way as motivation to stick it up everyone and go through the rest of the season undefeated they need their heads read. I’m not sure they shouldn’t be getting their heads read anyway considering the mental fragility we often show.

When the biggest thug ever, Lethal Leigh, comes out and says Heeney is guilty, you know there's a big Melbourne push to have him hung!

Spare me, how was he to know the useless St Scum defender would have his head half way down to the ground?? No way can it be deemed "high contact"?

Also what about the "good bloke" precedent with Cameron earlier in the year?? If our legal counsel can't get him off, he should be sacked immediately.
