Lol Ticks , will never be an issue for this old boy

I've been critical of Horse and Harley after the GF, but I didn't have a problem with what Harley said during the webinar.

He acknowledged that the GF performance wasn't at the standard we'd expect and the club will look at all aspects in an effort to improve our GF performances.

The one criticism I have is the club missed an opportunity by not having the review conducted by an external party. External reviews are a little more painful and can be a little intrusive, but when it's carried out by the people responsible for the performances, there's sometimes a bit of self-preservation that comes into play. So I feel it may not be as extensive or thorough as it otherwise could be. Further to that, if the people at the helm have blind spots about what the issues are, or how they personally have contributed to the poor outcome, then we have little hope of uncovering what the actual issues are, given its the people with the blind spots conducting the review.

It could still be a successful review, I just think it would have been better getting some fresh eyes on the problem.

Just when I was starting to cool down, the total avoidance of answering any GF related questions got me angry all over again 🤬

He's not going to be able to avoid me so easily on the cruise though 🤣🤣🤣
I'm on the cruise as well. Problem is that I found out about the cruise months ago and just went ahead and booked it with my normal cruise agent. I discovered a couple of weeks ago that the various activities such as the cocktail party etc will not be available to us as we booked it via a travel agent. As a 40+ year member, I feel a little pissed off.

That's ridiculous! Have you called the club and and asked them about getting onto the list?

Advertised to go to 7pm, finished at 6.30pm Danced around a majority of questions and repeated more party lines. I asked the question about what is the club going to do to make Vic membership worthwhile with the ever increasing number of fully ticketed games and basically copped the "If you've got any ideas, let us know." Mate, you couldn't respond to a request for the club to send a 50th anniversary message to my folks, why would I bother emailing and expecting a response with suggestions on how to stop treating your Vic members as cash cows.

Well Vic Members won't be pleased with the fixtures either imo.

Yes, I did. They said that it was all handled by Princess so I rang them and they said that the listing for those events was now closed.
If we miss the cocktail party, so be it but I very much want to be involved in the Q&A session. I would assume that would be held at the theatre so I'm sure there will be ample space.

Couldn't agree more. $218 for a maximum of 6 games and then add another $40 odd as you are required to book a seat if we play Essendon at Marvel. If you simply turned up at the gate and payed for general admission it would cost $150 to go to the 6 games (plus seat for Essendon). Value is even worse if you can't get to all the games.
My daughter has been a member for over 10 years and would like to continue but with a baby less than 12 months of age, she can't get to all of the games. She might get to two or three, so it's just not worth her while to continue with her membership. They used to offer a 3 game membership but have done away with that due to their greed.
This is something I will raise if I get the chance on the Swans cruise in January.

If you want, I am the only one in my group of four who's actually there for the swans, so you are most welcome to come in with me.
If you'd like, I can contact you when we get onboard with all the info.

That would be fantastic Jewels. It would be my wife and I.
I can pm you with my name and vice versa and we'll contact each other upon embarkation.
Thank you for that.

Plan A - Just dress up and walk into the function as if you own the place. Plan B - Walk into the function buried in a group and make idle chatter smiling with them. Plan C - If security pull you up. Just yell "Tony, our table is over there!" and then hurriedly walk away burying yourself in the crowd.
...and most of all remember, "It's not a lie if you believe it!"

Better yet, rock up in a Lions guernsey and no-one will touch you.

If they don't have the answers (which they probably don't), then tell us straight up and don't take us for fools. Don't trot around this "we played so well during the season and proud of almost all of it" line.
It's as if the club is content just to make finals. Horse labelled our effort against Port as unacceptable. But no such thing was said of the GF & for 3 quarters we were about the same place. It wasn't just unacceptable John, it was a disgrace & weak as piss. If the players can't practice what they preach 'All for One & One for All' the Musketeers cry then get player who can. If the coaches can't motivate the players on the biggest day in football to Premiership Glory, then get some who can. Our players do not destroy teams even though they have their foot on their collective throat. They coast. They do not start a match with conviction, they coast.

If you are going to win premierships you need to be more than a Legend in Your Own Lunchtime or Fantasy. You need to be a true Blue Legend. You need to stand up & say NO! I WILL NOT BE BEATEN. I WILL NOT BE BOWED. I WILL GIVE EVERYTHING I HAVE GOT, UNTIL THE AGONY OF MY BURNING LUNGS, MY TEARING MUSCLE, MY BURSTING HEART, IS SO GREAT IT NOT LONGER HURTS. I WILL FIGHT, TEAR & RENDER UNTIL INTENSE AGONY BECOMES ECSTASY. BECAUSE IF I DON'T I WILL BE CONFRONTED BY THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AGONY OF MY NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE

I write this because I have been there. I have shirked the issue & downed the baton. I have regretted this for my whole life. DON'T EVER LIVE WITH THE BURDEN OF REGRET.

The video of the webinar with Tom Harley on Monday evening.

'John as the Senior Coach is the major person to conduct the review'. **** me noooooooo. It has to be conducted by an outside person. A person who knows, like Leigh Matthews, David Parkin, if he is still alive, Malcolm Blight. At least gat a review from coaches who have won multiple premierships.

I don't think the club has any choice but to maintain this outlook. Whilst I understand we as fans are now at the stage where nothing else matters besides winning a grand final, the coaches, players and staff still have 25 odd games to prioritise so they can simply get to a grand final and even have the chance to win it.

As I've said before, this is what makes our challenge so difficult, we can only address the biggest issue stopping us from winning a flag by being in a grand final, and that takes an enormous amount of OTHER work just to make happen. It's not like our issue is, say, goalkicking, or bad fadeouts, that can be addressed and focused on over the pre-season, or corrected with every game each week.

This is also maybe where a better coach would come in handy. If you are having to so often require deep introspections about how to get your team to compete in a grand final, then you're probably not the right guy for the job. The right guy would intuitively and instinctively know what to do and what not to do. I really don't think there is much difference tactically between Clarkson and Horse, but Clarkson's team made five grand finals and were competitive in all of them. Horse's?
There is. Clarkson knows how to change the game instantly. He has trained his players to expect a change in game plan at any given time. He had an answer for anything Horse, Ross or Sando came up with. Our coach in 2014 when asked what went wrong said 'you tell me. I had no answers' I was astounded at the time but every GF since has just confirmed for me that when the pressure is on this coach has no answers.
