The Sydney Swans will all out to get ruckman Peter Everitt to the club.

Sydney officials last night began negotiations with Hawthorn after co-captains Barry Hall, Brett Kirk and Leo Barry backed the move.

Everitt, who yesterday left for a holiday and could not be contacted, is expected to be offered a two-year deal by Sydney worth about $400,000 a season plus bonuses.

"The Swans have expressed interest in him," Everitt's manager Ricky Nixon said. "I have told them they need to speak to Hawthorn and they are going through due process by speaking to the players and that sort of thing. St Kilda have expressed the same interest."

To secure Everitt, the Swans and Hawthorn must come to an agreement in next week's trade period.

FFS......Looks like we will be missing out on a first round draft pick AGAIN.

Why didn't you keep going? Was that the end of the article? Because in the Courier Mail they said Sydney were holding onto their 1st and 2nd round picks. May mean a quality player and lower round pick is more likely.

"The Swans have stated, however, they do not want to surrender their first or second-round selections in this year's national draft."

BTW, what do Swan fans think of this topping-up tactic? I think they should definately do it to try and win another flag, but will eventually lead to the position Brisbane find themselves in now.

Why would you offer him $400k a year.

Offer him 150k and give the hawks a 4th round pick. You don't have any competition from other clubs.

They can take it or leave it.

Better off with Gardiner for a 4th rounder and a base salary.

I can assure you that if we don't get a 2nd round pick,or a player like Malceski or Buchanan, Spida will go into the PSD...If he gets as far as Sydney then good for him, but there is no guarantee of that!!!.. Chris Pelchen, (when with PA) who deals with our trades, has done this before with Nick Stevens, who badly wanted to go to the Magpies. And where did he end up???? Carlton!!!..And you can have Spida with pleasure!! I would personally hand him to you on a silver platter....:D

Yeah it will - your club knows he's the key for your flag chances over the next couple of years. Pick 15 or nothing.

no, pick 15 for a flag.... think about it.

That's a joke right?? Well guys, it looks like the whole season won't need to be played next year if we simply trade pick 15 to the Hawks!:D :D :D

If we had won the GF by one point and Jolly had a great game, easily accounting for Cox, would we even be having this discussion about how we DESPERATELY NEED a new ruckman?

Um yeah.... but you didn't and he was towelled. Everitt would have given you options up fwd, in the ruck and around the ground. The way I see it, Hall, Kirk, O'Loughlin & Barry are your older core of champs who have 2-3 years left in them. Their best footy is surely behind them so the question has to be asked - do you want to strengthen your best 22 next year for a fair dinkum tilt while these blokes are still playing or use pick 15 on a kid who may/may not be part of the Swans future when the window is firmly nailed shut?

Everitt is one of the premier ruckman in the competition, without question. If he was a few years younger then I would LOVE him to be in a sydney guernsey, but his age is a real problem for me. If we give up pick 15 for him then it will really hurt us down the track.

I fully agree:thumbsu: Our top players are getting older, which is why we should have an eye on the future. We won the GF last year, lost by a point this year. There are other moves we can make during the draft/trading period to ensure we are there or thereabouts again next year without breaking the bank on a 32 year old with a dubious attitude.

Dont understand why you would be looking beyond 2008 at this stage in your club's position. If Roos feels he can keep your club up around the mark for the next 5-10 years by blooding kids now then good luck to him - be a mighty effort. But history will be cruel if you don't top up and the club doesn't win another flag when it had a great chance to do so. I think it's a golden opportunity.

Ha! Psshh...thats a no no. He'll only look good in tight red and white shorts. :D And it should stay that way.

Lol, i think he would look horrible in brown and gold. There's some players and you just can't imagine them wearing any other colours. They wouldn't suit them at all.

Ewww... i can't imagine him in brown and gold! :( ergh...

Can you imagine any of them wearing like purple? Haha. Or an Eagles uniform?

I guess like before Nick Davis came to Sydney, the thought of him wearing red and white would have been awfully strange, but now i can't imagine him wearing any other colours.

AHAHA! I can't imagine them in a purple uniform, let alone Eagles.:)

Ohh yeah, I can't imagine Nick Davis wearing the Collingwood uniform now. It will look very awkward. Maybe we'll get used to Spida wearing red and white, but thinking about it now gives me the shivers!

Red isn't a colour that suits everyone either. Lol, but yeah i'm sure we'll get used to him wearing it, if he does actually come to Sydney.. i still don't want him though.

I don't want Everitt either. Maybe we'll eventually like him... thats if he does play for the swans next year.
