Yeah I'm unsure on Francis. I don't think he's the same type of player as Kelly, so he wouldn't be replacing him in the team

Doedee has his spot covered, in reality. So unless he's cheap as chips, I'd pass. He's obviously got some talent, though
I sometimes wonder about this obsession of replacing like for like . Do we think our team is perfectly balanced as it is ? I don’t

Surely theres a discount for the mental health problems.
You cant pay top dollar for someone with an ongoing injury.
It would have to be a case of Essendon wanting to do the right thing by him and let him go home to his support network without putting up ridiculous hurdles like asking for high draft picks. Otherwise it doesn't even come into consideration.

Francis has more talent than Hampton in my opinion

Mental Health can be triggered by specific factors, in Francis case is may be triggered by home sickness, lack of family connection etc

If this is the case, being back in SA is a big step forward in managing his wellbeing

Why did he sign multiple contract extensions with essendon then. Surely if he wanted to get back to SA that badly he would have left a long time ago. Hard pass from me

Circumstances change...

Maybe but surely if he had such bad mental health conditions which have been documented, how did it help him to stay in melbourne so long
I’ve followed young Aaron’s but -very unfortunate circumstances. Hard enough for these boys let alone what he’s had to carry. I’m very happy to be corrected but I’ve a vague recollection that he did try and get home a couple of years ago but Essendon were always asking too much, and we were focussed on landing Gibbs??? Can’t quite remember

His brother tragically died just before his draft year.

He has showed a lot of courage to deal with the loss away from his family and no doubt in my mind both his well-being and his football will benefit if he is able to get back to SA and be closer to his family

Fantasias issues are different though, I'm not sure you can hold someone on mental health grounds. It would be a very poor look on the footy club.... I mean they're used to that.

No it wouldn't, bending over to a shit deal is what would look poor. If he's struggling so much, he can come home and sit the year out. Nobody is forcing him to stay there. If we want him, we need to make them an offer that they'll accept. Different story the year after.

Neither, but if we could let Kelly go as a free agent and use his (3rd round?) compensation on Francis that would be a win

We need to be taking these risks. Hately for free, North getting Bonar for a 4th rounder, Hawthorn taking on Phillips contract... we should be doing as many of these as we can and if they don't work out, oh well

Best 22s naturally include your C+ types like Kelly. Where we go wrong is that we don't actively try and improve upon them. C+ players with 50+ games experience are valued highly by our club. Their spots are locked in and not up for discussion.

Exactly. "______ can't play the Lynch role", then change the role.

the 'Lynch role' is a load of rubbish. He's a half forward with a license to work high up the ground. He gets the ball and he kicks it to others or at goal. He's no different to any half forward except that he's generally covered more ground than most.

And then he re-signed after all that.

I’ve been able to dig this out. Clearly he wanted home in 2017 but was under contract. I think he shouldn’t be judged too harshly. Can only imagine the pressure he would have been under. I think though suggesting he was ‘happy’ there is a bit unfair on him

He may have elected to give it one more go. He was obviously not ok in 2017. Essendon seemed determined to hold him to his contract regardless of his mental health. Be interesting to see how the Crows might be portrayed in the media if they acted the same way toward a Bailey Smith for example.

Im a bit of a soft touch though and will always look at the boys side with how tough the environment is for them at the best of times

Not the first guy who will have done it. Have heard a story about a former Crow who struggled with the same issues, but also felt like he would be abandoning the club if he left straight away and wanted to at the very least attempt to work through his issues to see if he could make it work.

Francis could very well be happy at Essendon and want to stay, but it's gotten to the point where it's not good for his mental health to keep on trying to force that.

Why do people think his mental health issues would improve if he changed clubs. It’s not about being sympathetic. I doubt anyone who has commented on him isn’t. But it’s about recognising that MH is serious. And if Francis has a serious issue, it isn’t in the clubs best interest. Its not dissimilar to taking on a guy who has had a chronic injury history. I wouldn’t want us to take on a player like that either.

This one might get debunked by natural causes if we end up with the wooden spoon

I've felt for a while that we could be serious about trading for the #1 pick (if we don't earn it, and thats looking like a genuine possibility on the current form of us, North, and Haw).

I'm sure mathematically we will get fleeced, but TBH, i'm surprisingly comfortable with it.

So our 2021 and 2022/1 for Pick 1 and something else coming back. This comes from a corporate sponsor.

Why doesn't the corporate sponsor just tell Horne they will pay him $1 as a brand ambassador if he plays for the crows.Watch him get homesick next year and if the club has no involvement then it's all above board.
