All for Devils, but second choice?

I love the Mariners name. Far better than the Devils IMO

Also aligns with some sort of Spirit of Tas sponsorship

Why not Hobart?

There's no teams called South Australia, Victoria, Queensland etc

I get there's a rivalry v Launceston but dunno

On SM-S908E using BigFooty.com mobile app

60% of Tasmanians live outside of Hobart, and 40% live outside either Hobart or Launceston. It's safer to just call it Tasmania.

My brother played for them as a kid, so they're very special to me.
I'd love to have the Mariners as the Tasmanian State Team if we get SOO.

My brother trained with them also, but didn't make the final cut IIRC

Happy for Tasmania to get a team but I cant see it being succesful.
GC and GWS cant keep their talent in areas where theres lots to do away from the game, who's going to want to spend 3/4 of the year in a cold environment with little to do outside of training and playing long term.
This will become another feeder club.
Yeah, clubs like Liverpool and Man U/Man City are soooooo unsuccessful because it’s cold and there’s little to do there outside of training.

Those northern English clubs are some of the most successful in football history, it’s way colder in Liverpool than it ever is in Tasmania. Better yet similar money is on offer in London, Paris, Rome, Turin, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Munich. All of which have far more to do outside of footballer and some of which are hardly ever cold.

Yes! Thanks bigfooty/chief/wosh/whoever made this possible! Finally I can display my real team :thumbsu:

I'm honestly tempted, but I've also experienced the awkwardness of "Gold Coast" supporters on the Blues board that are technically Blues members, so hmm

Gws and GC were effectively junior clubs that were given an AFL license. The league didn't realise the work needed I don't think.

Tassie knows the worl they'll need to put in
And?
I dont see Hobart suddenly becoming the size of Sydney or having the sunshine and activities as Surfers.
Theres only so much to do in Tassie on your day off, players will get bored shitless, especially by the time they hit prime and FA with young families looking for something to do.

They are established clubs with succesful history to lure/keep players and London is only a short drive away.
You cant drive from Hobart to Melbourne without a 9+ hour ferry trip.

Ah. You think that Manchester and Liverpool are just a short drive to London. On a good day it's a long drive. On a day when there is traffic and accidents (most days) it is a nightmare.

Sorry what, a short drive you reckon? You ever been to England? Liverpool to London is 4.5 hours and is on some of the most horrendous Country roads you've ever seen. To clarify, I lived in London for two years and made many trips to Liverpool as I'm a Liverpool fan.

Manchester City had no success until recently, so that point doesn't stand up either.

I am absolutely certain that Tasmania will be a good club.
