Initially I was certain Tex would be back next year.

I am starting to doubt that as I think while on field we are going to struggle for the remainder of the year I do wonder if the change in dynamics amongst the playing group could give an impression to those at the club have moved on without him. Bringing him back next year could be too bigger distraction.
Tex might be back next year. I hope so anyway. But he will need to stay high profile until then and be seen to be deserving of respect and trust. Without those, he becomes a liability to the club.
Hunkering down and staying out of sight will be a complete failure as a strategy. After all, in round 4 next year, there will be no where to hide.
He must have the work of rebuilding trust and respect largely done before then.

I dont know why people keep going on about racism. its never going to go away and thats a fact.

yes, if you see someone being racist call them out. but seriously stop whinging about it all the time. you have two options. keep whinging about something you have no control over or move the fu** on. life is too short.

Your logic:

I dont know why people keep going on about *domestic violence*. its never going to go away and thats a fact.

yes, if you see someone *abusing their partner* call them out. but seriously stop whinging about it all the time. you have two options. keep whinging about something you have no control over or move the fu** on. life is too short.

sorry, not feeding into your drama, goodbye.

Disappointed to see saying goodbye didn’t mean you were leaving this thread.

Because the connotation of “leaning on us” suggests that we’ll be squashed and trampled so as to ensure the non-Aboriginal person feels empowered.

I can’t be more clear – a victim should not be the one consoling the perpetrator, as we saw this week."
I 100% agree with this and it was one of the big problems with Tex’s speech. Tex isn’t the victim here. It’s not about his support.

Oh
Please
Nobody is saying he is
It didn’t look like Tex was playing the victim at all - it looked like Young had compassion for the man and has forgiven him
A trait sadly lacking in this thread

And in the end-Robbie Young can do what he wants- despite what anyone else - thinks

He’s not playing the victim. He’s showing remorse. The Victim chose to take the high road and throw him a massive bone.

Of course. The only issue was the bit at the end where Walker said he was going to lean on Robbie for support.

It's probably even true, but it didn't need to be said in the video. The video was about Walker apologising for the hurt he had caused, not about what Walker will need to recover from the incident. Honestly I thought the rest of the video was okay, but that bit should have been left on the cutting room floor.

That was Robbie Young putting his hand on Walker for comfort. If that's what he wants to do, if that's what he feels is right, then let him do it.

Robbie didn't asked to get dragged into this, and now he's copping it from "experts" for how he is supposed to act in these situations. This bloke needs to pull his head in. It's not Robbie's role to react on behalf of all indigenous people. He should just do what he wants to do. He's shown empathy for Walker. That shows strength. More than this author has.

Me neither
Most people learn from their mistakes once alerted to them

Most whistle blowers suffer as a result of their decision to report, often ending up much worse off than the wrong-doer(s) they reported.

In Tex’s case, unless it was an indigenous person (who I think would be morally bound to take action and who would likely be protected by the system), the official concerned may now feel a lack of trust from players and senior officials and is at risk of being ostracised within the club. He’ll likely become the scapegoat for the club’s choice to report the matter to the AFL and may see unexpected prying into his own past and behaviours.

And unless he hated Walker, he’s probably feeling remorse for the scale of damage caused to Tex, the club and to all indigenous players for what we hope was a stupid one off mistake by Tex.

So if at all possible, a wiser person would have pulled him aside for a quiet word and left it at that for a first occurrence, subject to an appropriate response from Tex.

See.. I am happy with the fact Tex has been punished for this and, if it costs tex his career, then so be it.. Tex is a moron for saying something racist and insensitive..

But **** me.. the media and several of its commentators are just taking it a bit too far now and probably reading more into some of the things that have been said and done than is really there..

What business is it of anyone if Robbie decides he’s gonna reach out and sit down as he did with tex to do that video where he consols tex?..

Are we somehow suggesting Robbie cant decide for himself what way he is going to deal with this incident?

You dont think racism has changed over the last few decades?

it’s gotten cooler

interesting of the author to tell the victims what he should or should not do

Are we somehow suggesting Robbie cant decide for himself what way he is going to deal with this incident?

i think the author is

Come on. There's no way "leaning on you" means squashing you as this 'author' says. It's his way of asking Robbie to help him understand the problem, nothing more. This guy is just sore that Robbie displayed some compassion rather than anger. Who's the bigger person here, Robbie Young or Joel B?

Kind of depends which way you read that last bit. The way I took it, when he was saying ‘leaning for support’ he probably meant look to him for guidance and further education in his quest for redemption and forgiveness. (Not you personally) but there seem to be many that are over analyzing every single word of the video. Take it for what it is

That’s exactly how I took it.
The word support probably shouldn’t have been used.

.. and why would he go through all of this trouble to apologise in front of Robbie only to tell him he wants to squash him?

There's apparently a petition going around demanding the club not sack Tex? I don't like where this is heading
There's also a petition going around asking to ban Tex from entering a football stadium for 12 months. Where was the petition to ban Eddie McGuire from ever commentating again? There's extremists on both sides of this.
