News Team Selection Round 11 vs Port

While I don't mind the changes, I would have prefered Astbury for Grimes as the only change. Whitey will give us a speed boost on the big Darwin ground and he has been ok all season so I understand him coming back in, but we look a bit less balanced in the backline without someone playing Grimes 3rd man in role.

I also understand bringing Miller back in. He has been important in the games he played and we are better in the short term with him in ahead of Post, but we haven't been doing too badly by giving the kids a go and taking that longer term view. Would have liked to see how Post went second game in.

Miller might get another mysterious virus and post comes bac in.

It wasnt his best game for the year but it was far from a stinker. People are just to focused on the 3 terrible clangers and forget about the 14 or 15 quality disposals he contributed.
Compared to his standards set this year by his great output so far, I'd consider it a stinker.

We can't just turn a blind eye to those clangers. The two turnover kicks in a minute in the first quarter were under no pressure and completely unacceptable. Deliberate rushed behind was simply a brain fade.

In saying that, he was serviceable in linking up the play and deserves to keep his spot.

We've revered straight back to the shortcut. Disappointing. Post against Port could've been good experience for him. Don't like dropping a kid after 1 game.

Looks like Miller is now the future not the insurance. Other than that, don't mind the team. We should get the job done.

:)Other than some early kicking yips, Miller has done nothing wrong and was a 'gimme' to come straight back in.
Post will have to bide his time, which is a good thing!
White too done little wrong and was always going to be an automatic inclusion!
Changes are warranted and predictable!

So is it ok to turn a blind eye to Lids 3 clangers, Dustys 4, Cotches 5 and Brownes 6?

I didn't say that. We are discussing Grigg here, who's turnovers resulted in Essendon having three direct forward entries/shots at goal. Besides, the players you listed (give or take Browne) had more of an impact on us winning the game rather than jeapordizing it.

I don't wanna get into a stats-shitfight with you. Grigg had an average game, you said so yourself.

:DSpot on Baz, there are many here who turn a blind-eye to individual player clangers.
It's fact, the more you handle the ball, the more a player is prone to producing a clanger.
Reading some of the threads on here you'd be forgiven for believing three or four players account for ALL clangers.

My thoughts exactly. While his (Miller) form has been reasonable he is meant to be the back-up for unfit/out-of-form players and Post has been neither. I would've thought Post would get 3 games at least so he could run into form. I'm just wondering what happens when Griffiths is fit and firing and Miller is kicking 2-3 goals a week?

Hardwick needs to be told finals don't come before development. Not that we'd need Miller to beat Port.

My concern is that we haven't replaced Grimes with another tall defender, I mean wtf?

Where is Astbury & Gourdis?!

If they can't get a gig now, when will they?

Wouldn't know but I'd like to think they've rolled the dice here.
Perhaps they thought it isn't a concern v Port as it surely sends a message to those boys that games won't be given away.I'd hope one of them lifts a level in the twos this week.

Pretty simple really, Port doesn't have as many tall/key forwards as Essendon. So there is no point bringing in another tall defender if there not knocking down the door to be selected, which there not.

:confused:Ever thought Miller being in the line-up might be fast-tracking the development of some players?
Not all of a player's development comes from the player alone .... it's a team game and you rely on your teammates to help you along.
I feel more confident having Miller shoulder a load and ease the pressure off Jack and Ty who are the long term.
Won't be long before the play Griff ahead of Miller call starts ... and when Griff is out injured again as he is prone to be, ask me if that's proper development???

Yep because Vickery played the best game of his career on the weekend and Miller didn't play. If anything thing Miller is getting in the way of Development. I don't recall Miller playing last year when Jack won the Coleman???

grigg farmer lucky- lets see what they can do..............
Farmer lucky? Bloke came on with 10 minutes left in the 3rd when the game was played at extremely high intensity. Even then he had some crucial possessions and contributed to a goal.

Tough on Post, thought they would of givin him a game against port who aren't too flash but he did come in as a lateish change for Miller who i am glad is back this week.

I like the changes, however can see both sides to the argument.

On one hand it would be good for Post to string together 3-4 games for confidence and development.

On the other hand, Brad Miller has done nothing to deserve to be dropped apart from some bad luck with a virus last week. If we are serious about rewarding games on merit, then Miller deserves his spot.

If anything, it means Post has to go back to VFL and continue to work on aspects of his game, and eventually he will get another opportunity

Good coaching and selections IMO

If he had of been in form then he would have been playing from round 1 when we needed that extra tall forward, rather than coming in because Miller got the flu.

LoL shows how much you take notice of players form in the 2s.

And why the heck does someone need to tell Dimma development comes before finals?

Last time I checked he was the one telling us 2011 was another development year and that would never be compromised.

Perhaps tys form is a direct result of being a far more confident player than last year.Perhaps that can be partly attributed to Miller having been in the side up until that point.
And yes Jack won a Coleman but are we not a better side now regardless of how many he kicks?
