Pretty sure he bought a 2 million dollar house in Perth at the start of the year, Baker was always leaving

Interesting that 3 of Richmond's top 5 B&F asked for a trade.

Baker in admission said he wasn't really checked in, still managed a decent finish

Exacto Mundo! Hundreds of pages of melts and teeth gnashing and still they carry on with 'pick 3-itis', the players are doomed, the team is doomed, there is no joy anywhere, burn my membership, sack the recruiters, wail and flail...it is indeed a strange self affliction?
Everything looks bright and sunny to me. There's a lot of new energy and positivity at the club. Everyone looks happy and excited at training. It turns out the recruiters knew what they were doing after all, in sync with the new coach, they're picking players to suit his game plan and things are coming together...as though it was all planned, imagine that?

And I suggest there will be a dramatic reduction of melts by the end of tonight.

And some embarrassed so called Eagles supporters.

An F1 for pick 30?? I'd like some of what those people are smoking please. If Essendon were dumb enough to give us 37, 39 & F2 for 30 & F3 you're taking that and running. We might lose our best target but potentially gain two others on our board.

In effect, we have traded pick 3 (Jagga Smith) for Baker (definite top 10 player in the side), Owies (fills an area of need), BoA (best rated WA talent), pick 45, and an exchange of late picks.

Sure, all four of them could be duds and Jagga Smith could be a future triple Brownlow and premiership captain - but as it stands, this is a good deal.

Anyway, watch the melts if we don't pick Moraes or Shanahan, I guess. Melters need to melt.

Assuming Essendon trade up for Richmond's pick and take Shanahan, and then the doggies take Moraes, who would we most likely take?
I dare say Whitlock? Whether or not we think he has the ability to play KPD or just go best available could be the reasoning.

I’d try and trade it for a future first if Shanahan and Moraes are gone, although I suspect the club would be stoked with Jack Whitlock.

I doubt we take Whitlock, we just took A Reid last year, fairly similar players and positions.

Mraz, O Farrell, Dennis,Nicholls, Gerryn & Barat are all still on the board in terms of tall defenders or have potential to be tall defenders. Maybe another slide back to consolidate some picks.

Davis will be on our radar too
I would have thought. Kid kicked 4 goals in a WAFL final…..was really good at the state champs.

Maybe one of the midfielders in Boxshall, Zac Johnson, Jack Ough, Isivic or Tom Gross might be in our sights at 43.

Would like us to grab Artemis late too he’s gone under the radar big time. Wouldn’t be surprised if we bid on Lennox Hoffman either.

We need to draft a mid in this draft.
If not Moraes, Davis would be a good backup.

Allen, Waterman, J Williams, A Reid, B Williams (then Ryan and H Reid who can both play as the deepest key forward even though they are not talls per se).

No, we don’t need to draft another key forward. Not opposed to it if one of the above or the drafted player can go back - as that is a clear list need - but we could also easily just go with a small.

It sounds like there are some decent outside mid or hhf types around this area of the draft - getting 2 of them through a trade with the bombers may make sense. Then a key back at 45ish

That's also ignoring Maric & Hutchinson who are being lined up for other roles due the oversupply.

Another angle of the dangle from the punt, a month old prediction -
It wasn't the splitting of pick 3 that was the problem . It was doing it for Liam Baker and giving up pick 14 with nothing going back is peoples issues

In all honesty I rate Davis next to Cooper Hynes. Difference being Davis has an awkward kicking style that makes him less appealing. His output this year was just as good and actually played at a higher level.

Yeah, nah. Pick 3 was seen as giving up on the next Chris Judd for an honest trier at best by many around here. I also wasn't supportive of the pick downgrade at the time, but have come around to it after what has now unfolded.

The Mongrel got this spot on, though:

You see, Fremantle had picks 10, 11, and 18, and in their mind, the Dockers would swoop in and snatch Allan away before West Coast had the opportunity to snag him. Surely, they were not going to give up picks 10 AND 11, right? It’d be 10 and 18, or 11 and 18, meaning they could still swoop on the WA-product, and bring West Coast undone.

There’s a funny thing about all these deals that get done – as much is completed with a handshake and a promise as is completed with pen and paper, and in dealing with Richmond to acquire Baker, I am of the belief that certain assurances would be made.

Number one – the Tigers would stay firm in demanding 10 and 11 from Freo.

And when all was said and done, they would not be taking Bo Allan with picks 10 or 11.

You know what that means, right?

It means that once the deal for Bolton was cemented, Freo dropped down the order to have their first pick land at 14, and Richmond had agreed not to pinch Bo Allan out from under West Coast’s nose with their two picks before that of the Eagles.

Handshake deals – they still exist.

Great call. Bo Allan was rated by most as being a top 10 pick, so this is astute if this was the case.
