I'm not even that sad anymore tbh. I'm just blunted to it all.

Can't say the possibility of an AFL intervention is far fetched if we serve this up for another 3 years. You just can't have a pro sports club this bad for this long. Something has to give.

I’m hearing you, I haven’t watched a single highlight since the GWS match, imagine that having followed this club for 53 years and a paid up member for 30, that I’m yet to see the likes of Hardaman play, Chom improving in leaps and bounds in defence, Sheez, Wardlaw and McKercher in their infancy.
I’m just reading the game day thread and as embarrassing and hard to read that it is, I feel emotionally removed. I hope one day, sooner rather than later, I’ll feel able to actually watch…. Hopefully the kids haven’t already played 50 games by then.
This week, I went and watched Civil War while North were playing. Apart from the horrible moment after the movie when I checked out the AFL App to see the absolutely inevitable result, I was able to avoid the dreadful angst that comes with watching North nowadays. The second quarter against Hawthorn was where my threshold was breached.

I do feel for the players, I really do.

That ****wit Rawlings has completely ****ed their career.

This club will happily delist a young indigenous kid but someone truly incompetent in an off field role can stay as long as they like, and if he is an ex North player, well he has a job for life.

This lot have about 1 quarter of afl standard effort and intent in them.

That 2nd quarter was beyond embarrassing. Not sure if it's fitness or lack of care or hunger but you could see them all noticably taking their feet off the pedal.
NOBODY at the club should be paid until we win a game. Maybe that'll make some of these pretenders pull their fingers out.

Clarko has completely lost the players.

You will all come to the realization eventually.

That’s as bad an AFL football side has looked in the AFL era effort wise. That GC team is terrible and we were made to look like a VFL outfit.

Sacking him won’t solve anything, as it is a complete get out of jail free card for the absolute charlatans putting in 20% of the required effort at the moment.

But it’s true.

We are completely treading water at the monent, Clarko is done and the players are done with him and we need to be done with some of these players immediately.

Club is in a no win complete apocalypse situation at the moment given Clarko’s contract length and terms and still having 4 months of the season to go.

You have to remember that Clarko holds nowhere near the same weight as he did with the Hawthorn playing group, he’s won nothing here and it’s even more amplified by the fact he spent a few months away from this group last year.

Most of these players have turned into self preservation mode awaiting the next coach and/or trade week.
This gets played anywhere else in Australia..you more or less get the same result as tonight.

We had a lot of guys tonight that have never played in Darwin, in those conditions before.

And so the spiral goes ever downward. Those who said 5 years ago that they were tired of "mid-table mediocrity" and willed that we'd "bottom out" to access some 'top-end talent' have got their wish, along with all its entirely foreseeable pitfalls - club culture is in tatters, basic honest competitiveness is but a distant memory, and we have some of the best young talent in the country, strangled by a lack of leadership in a team with no discernible system or structure and whose dwindling senior core pick and choose when to put in, leaving us in a position where we just have to overpay and overextend everyone to keep from complete collapse in some perverse demonstration of the Vimes Boots theory. Failure begets failure, and we begat more of that tonight.

The question Clarkson and co. don't really seem to be answering is, what aspect of all this is a necessary-if-painful step in our ever-distant eventual ascent? Anyone can talk about giving exposure to obviously-talented kids, but if that's all it took then anyone could be warming the coach's seat. We're visibly incapable of doing the basics - watch any other AFL match and teams, even those who aren't much good, will switch the ball, spread to present options for the player in possession, and force the opposing team to have to outwork them defensively to do the same when they've got the ball. When do we ever do that, even make a hackneyed attempt at doing that? All we have is kickouts to a contest on the HBF, a shambles of a stoppage set-up, and some bizarre notion of a run-and-carry handball game that leaves our already under-siege backline horrendously exposed on the inevitable breakdown. How long before the interminable year zero ends and the rebuild proper begins?

I just want you to think back for a moment about just how Rawlings played, and how good his disposals were.

You will then realise the recruits under him are an accurate representation of his playing style.

Scrappy and shit kicking.

Unfortunately, our biggest problem is that they have zero inkling of the positive traits that Brady had.

As much as I loathe the way we are getting flogged week in week out, I think that might just be a bit alarmist.

We remain the club with the youngest and least experienced list in the competition, and unlike Richmond, who went down by over 90 points tonight, we have just one Premiership player in our team, in Liam Shiells, as opposed to Richmond who still have multiple Premiership players from their era of contending, which finished probably last year. We are simply sitting ducks right now, not too dissimilar to how the GC and GWS started out in the their first few years.

Football is very much a cyclical thing, we are in a huge trough, but we are not the first, nor will we be the last team to be in this position. Despite the floggings, small, and what might appear to be insignificant, steps are being taken on the road to our boys turning a long overdue corner.

Every game this young list plays together, is slowly but surely building experience. Imagine how the likes of Wardlaw, McKercher, Sheezel, Duursma (not there tonight), Comben (too in terms of games played is still just a baby), will be playing when they reach 40, 50, 60 games playing together.

Hard as it is to cope with, we just have to be patient. It will turn, I have no doubt.
The comparison to Richmond is irrelevant imo. As you say, football is a cyclical thing and they’re at the end of a cycle which made them one of the most successful teams of all time.

Things don’t turn just because. Yes, we have a bunch of young talent on the list. Doesn’t mean shit if the organization is FUBAR. That’s the lesson we need to learn.

That's some decent inside info.

At some point you have to stop buckling to non performing players whims. This will be the 4th coach in six seasons that has lost the players.

Maybe it's time to take the Aylett approach. This is the coach, if you don't like it come and see me and we'll move you on.

Agree, Phoenix Spicer was stiff.

Half our team lays 10 tackles between them…. &$ck off🤮
It's not just the fact we don't tackle, the galling thing is how far away from their opponents our players are. Metres behind.

It's going to give the 2000 qf a run for it's money for margin
For some bizarre reason - don’t ask me why - I think we’ll fare better against Essendon. Maybe, it’s the Brad Scott factor. Maybe, Clarko will finally pick a truly accountable player - like Bergman. I dunno, it’s just a hunch.

They will be at peak hubris going in against us. About the only thing we have going for us is that could backfire on them. It could also just embolden them. Probably the latter.

Or keep him on and actively promote his off field business

Fitness.
Fix that and it will help. Not by much but surely it will achieve something. At the moment it is one of many ingredients of a horridly tasting meal that nobody who watches the club can digest.

To think some of us here predicted 4-6 wins this year. Maybe they meant quarters.

Never seen a worse performing team in the last 50 years in any sport, let alone the AFL.

Our forward entries and our accumulation of possessions are our biggest problem.

Or is it gameplan? Or cohesiveness? Or player development? Or intent? Or confidence?

It's all of the above. And there's no end in sight at the moment. Except the off season. We have 14 more rounds of pain to come. Including against Richmond.

The club needs to explain to me why I shouldn't end 30 years of paying them to be a member. I can't keep doing this to myself. I'm just about done. My mental health is more important to me than continuing to support this club hoping to see improvement, let alone a win.

This is not really happening, is it?
