THE BOARD. PAFC DIRECTORS. Why? Just why? 😢

What's the Club's position with regard to a second place on the board being elected by PAFC members - either as an extra director to the current number, or as replacement for one of the current appointed directors?
I'm happy that our club can't be held to holly by a handful of dickheads with a century of signatures like we've seen with Richmond of late, but I dunno, now that the steenking cocharoaches on Turner Drive have been chemo'd out of our club's governance, a part of me is disappointed we as members are essentially isolated from having any meaningful say in club affairs.

ie, if Koch decides to foist that teal piece of shit on us he can without threat of revolution from below, just like that mouthbreather up in Brisbane who thought the paddlepop lion motif was a good idea.

We're a 146 year old member-driven institution, we, as a 40000-60000 strong base, should never be disenfranchised.

12.6 Subject to clause 12.10, the Board of Directors will comprise:
12.6.1 two persons nominated to the AFL by the Club Membership ("Club nominees"); and
12.6.2 eight persons appointed by the AFL.
.......
12A. TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS
12A.1 This clause 12A applies despite anything else in this Constitution.
12A.2 With effect from the Effective Date, the Directors will be as follows:
12A.2.1 Mr David Koch (appointed on 1 October 2012);
12A.2.2 Mr Kevin Osborn (appointed on 21 July 2011);
.........
12A.3 Mr George Fiacchi and Mr Trevor Thiele will be the Club nominees for the purposes of clause 12.6.

Firth was the member voted on board member December 2010 and his 3 year term was taken over in late 2011 by Mr Trevor Thiele. IIRC in December 2013 no body opposed Thiele so he was re-elected unopposed. Fiachi was elected in December 2012 and as I stated above that his term ended Dec 2015 and he must have been re-elected unopposed.

Edit - Clause 12A.3 says I'm correct, so we should be getting stuff re a board member position election soon. This is the time to ask your questions, or maybe nominate to run for the board.

Look forward to the thread where we scrutinise every other board member

Every other board member has a track record.

This is a Koch appointment and the current regime is on thin ice, particularly after our disastrous 2015 and 2016 seasons. We already had a big advantage with youth prior to Holly's appointment as director and while it's great that we have a young inspirational leader on the board I'm still wondering whether this move will ultimately benefit the PAFC at all or just Holly's CV.

Thanks REH. Note Thiele should be up for a re-election contest in December. I haven't met him, don't think he's been up here for any Board events, may have been in Shanghai in June but I wasn't there, so no comment.

Personally would like, for obvious reasons, to have someone on the board who has international experience, especially China and Asia, now that things are looking good re Mr Gui, as far as 1) playing in Shanghai, 2) AFL in China, 3) Kidman project and how it benefits PAFC are all concerned.
Big stuff, big bucks, big future, big responsibility...
This all needs to be guided from the top at PAFC, on a broader base, with additional qualified people involved long-term.
Quite amazing that I can now suggest such stuff with confidence after only three years.

No no no, I'm not pushing my own wheelbarrow here. Holly has the 'disrupter' seat on the board already according to El Presidente, no need for another. Modern means of communication with the Boomer Generation (only) may be a strength of mine, but we don't need to appoint a board member for that ... unless we take over the Crows.

FishingRick04 ... over to you. You the man. Those hours we spent that night outside the Jockey in Happy Valley (HK) educating each other into noncompassmintarsedville was a good investment (by me) right?

Holly Ransom has done literally nothing ever because the Port website scribe hasn't bothered listing anything. Cheers. Millenials farkin'. Did she even get the cain in school?

Other board members have presided over the rise and fall of the Hinkley era at least, Ransom is a recent appointment. Can we question what they're bringing to the table?

Absolutely.
I've met several of them. I personally like George of course, also Richard Ryan who has solid NT qualifications, joined the Army, went to Duntroon, too much BS so told the Army to piss off.
Love Kev, best Deputy Chairman in the AFL.
Won't risk comment on the rest, not here no way.

I'm just stirring.

I'm sure she invented a meme or something and, well she did photobomb Richard Branson.

Absolutely.

I think this thread served a good purpose for the announcement and I like hearing about what she's doing. Maybe the title should go back to being just "Holly Ransom" without "the board" or something.

Scrutiny on a board member who has been here for a matter of months isn't warranted IMO. Or if it's one member why not the rest? We don't know what each board member does and doesn't do in the context of the PAFC so it's unfair to criticise them as individual rather than a whole.

Of course. Keep in mind though that Holly was hand picked and not voted in, is our most recent appointment and is an attempt by Koch to not only broaden the diversity of the board but also to bring in fresh youthful ideas. There will be discussion and a lot of it, especially when the benefits aren't readily clear and the buzzword bullshit sensor is alarming (for me at least).

EDIT: In order words, what we're getting with the other board members is largely tangible. What we're getting with Holly is at this point intangible and a lot of goodwill. It will take time to see an effect so naturally there will be a lot of critical discussion.

Concur.

Perhaps open a separate thread, if mods agree, related to the Board election in December, once it's confirmed its happening.

I'd guess most posters know little about who the directors are and would like to know more about those less obvious who run our Club, especially those posters who are Members of the Club and entitled to vote.

Personally I feel it's time for the PAFC Board to be more transparent and less remote, considering what's gone wrong on the field of late and the threat it poses to what's going right off the field.

i forgot there is a person named holly ransom, i thought this thread just had a funny/random bigfooty-ism for a thread title, like holly ransom is scythe buttercorn II

Good question LR. Do we have a board member with China/International business expertise on the board?

And, do we have anyone on the board who knows something about football, the playing of?

George and Ross are both former players, albeit from some time ago now, and I have seen Ross be a decent judge of the game and individuals playing it. Neither had AFL experience but that didn't really help former board members Abernathy and Wakelin in their time.

I've seen her on Q&A and I think she has her own PR company or a least some type of Communications consultancy company.

Personally she seems to be the type of talking head that large corporations love that stick to the script in a perfectly politically correct fashion, while being young and good looking. I've seen plenty of them over the years in places I've worked - use by date about 35 years old.

I will add that she seems very capable at what she's doing though.

Not to my knowledge.
If not, as I suspect, it's something that should be remedied considering the speed at which we're committing to China.

A grand addition in our ongoing mission to be fluffy, inoffensive, well-liked and capable of scoring 10/10 for demographical transcendentalism.

When we look back at this era we might not have any premierships, but dammit, I'll be fugged if we weren't a club that had the potential to trend solidly with rusted-on watchers of The Project.

It's not just PR/Communications company, it is a "solutions" company that specialises in multi-stakeholder outcomes, the enablement of change and the development of high performing intergenerational cultures. o_O

She has nailed the template for making money in the diversity fad and the best bit is every engagement is a success because it is an impossible to measure field. Hottest space to be in right now as big corporates will get her in and similar companies, they run some buzzword workshops maybe throw in a diversity policy for the company is aspirational goals and corporates (basically HR depts) love it.

Interesting last sentence L R, and definitely food for thought. :thumbsu:

Along with OH&S consultants, where would the world be?
