Still interested in your comments about the era we grew up in though Gregory. :thumbsu:
A bygone era never to return. An era where responsibilities came before entitlement. Where respect for elders, warranted or not, was a given.
Where women were feted and wooed and not treated as a piece of meat. Where responsibility for your actions was not questioned
challenged or fobbed off as being because you 'might' have had a tough up bringing, a bad break or two, your ethnicity or whatever.
Having said that the 'good' ol days weren't so good unless you were a white anglo saxon male. Modesty and humility were in greater
measure and success came more often through talent rather than self promotion.
An era where you did not have the right to get it wrong. Change is inevitable and natural but not always enviable.
Is life better now for more people? probably, then again there are more people now. Is this a good thing? only if the planet
can afford it. More is not always better.

People say don't rock the boat, let things go their own way
Ideas that once seem so right, now have gotten hard to say
I wish I could talk to you, you could talk to me
'Cause there very few of us left my friend
From the days that used to be.

Seem like such a simple thing to follow one's own dream
But possessions and concession are not often what they seem
They drag you down and load you down in disguise of security.
But we never had to make those deals
In the days that used to be.

Talk to me, my long lost friend, tell me how you are
Are you happy with your circumstance, are you driving a new car
Does it get you where you wanna go, with a seven year warranty
Or just another hundred thousand miles away
From days that used to be.

Good response old son. :thumbsu:

My take is there are probably a lot of young blokes nowadays that if the fear was still there that the local walloper could give them a smacking when they got out of line, some of them may have turned out a tad better.

Bearing in mind of course that back in those days a police officer had to have some physical presence ( from memory the minimum height requirement was 5' 10 ), and there are many much shorter than that around today.

My dad knocked smacked one of his teachers in the chops when she used a bit of undue corporal punishment on him, and she got in trouble for it.

What a time to be alive that would have been.

I must admit two things. When I read the name of her company I thought it was Ermahgerd. And when I read her companies philosophy, it sounded very similar to Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net's.

If companies like this didn't exist, nobody would actually miss them, because they don't actually need them.

Look forward to the thread where we scrutinise every other board member

I'm reminiscing about the time Alex Panos' mum or was it Alex Panos himself came on here to campaign prior to that particular board election. Was circa 2010 or 2011. Good craic.

John Firth won and promptly resigned.

I regularly see John and his wife on the train to Ports games at AO.

Didn't he resign to avoid some perceived conflict of interest?
The then President said he had a conflict of interest with his work and Port, which was BS. The Prez was a SANFL appointee, John was voted in by the members straight after the merger with the Maggies ie end of 2010. There were insecurities at play from the Prez and his backers.

What's the Club's position with regard to a second place on the board being elected by PAFC members - either as an extra director to the current number, or as replacement for one of the current appointed directors?

I think the legal position is up to 2 elected so it doesnt have to be 2. The club is very silent about its attitudes. Last board member elected was the end of 2012 - Fiachi and I think he was effectively re elected at end of 2015 because nobody else nominated.

I'm happy that our club can't be held to holly by a handful of dickheads with a century of signatures like we've seen with Richmond of late, but I dunno, now that the steenking cocharoaches on Turner Drive have been chemo'd out of our club's governance, a part of me is disappointed we as members are essentially isolated from having any meaningful say in club affairs.

ie, if Koch decides to foist that teal piece of shit on us he can without threat of revolution from below, just like that mouthbreather up in Brisbane who thought the paddlepop lion motif was a good idea.

We're a 146 year old member-driven institution, we, as a 40000-60000 strong base, should never be disenfranchised.

She's related to my wife, one generation older. Have met them a few times at family events, talk turns to footy pretty quickly. Have to wait 10 minutes or so at funerals apparently.

1. Apologies, it was Alex Panas.

2. This was the election after Firth, that Fiacchi won.

Vintage Port Board @ ConsiderableSteeden dot org

PMSL.

Joe Bacolol.

Sounds like mafioso from a Scorsese flick.

Then REH goes "full REH" on Panas, lol.

But JFC, a board member on Big Footy?

Almost tops the time Butthurtenshaw went on an SANFL forum to spruik the Crows ressies but got his pants pulled down and bent over the table.

Srsly, do other boards have as much random, funny shit?

My intention was to share the tweet but then I read the article and decided to comment on "high performance intergenerational engagement" which I found amusing.

I kind of regret that now seeing how it has evolved into intergenerational bashing, which wasn't the intended outcome. Off-season...
