Without taking anything away from our magnificent season (a number of these outs would not have affected the result).

It appears that whoever we play has a run of bad luck with injuries prior to playing us (or even in the actual game). The planets are aligning (i.e. 54 years since 1954, winning by 54 points on the weeknd etc.)

For example;

Melbourne - just heard that Brock McLean is out for the season now with an ankle problem
Port Power - effectively put the cue in rack before we played them and were missing a number of key players including Chad Cornes
Collingwood - lost Travis Cloke, Leon Davis and Josh Fraser for the game and then lost Rocca and Reid during the game.
Sydney - were missing Barry Hall
StKilda - 2nd time, lost Harvey and King in the week of our game
Brisbane - Were missing Bradshaw and lost Rischetelli at the last minute
Hawthorn - Were missing a few players including Hodge and a couple of others under injury clouds (Sewell and Lewis)
Essendon - were missing Lucas and lost Lloyd in the week prior to game and then they lost their best player of that game in McVeigh with a hamstring

I will be watching the injuries at Geelong with much interest over the next two weeks!

I'm predicting some Geelong misfortune.

we've been without west, ray, williams, everitt and higgins for a large percentage of those games in various mixes. plus murph the animal was suspended for one game, plus harris was post-op for the first couple of games. edit: forgot callan injured and johno playing injured for 5 games or so as well.

if teams dont have the depth to cover their injuries, hardly our fault.

we'll have to wait and see, but its exciting just thinking about it! Hopefully, the football gods are in fact looking down on us !:p

You can't tell me that the other teams heading the ladder haven't had the same luck as we have? Why is it mentioned that we have played either teams that have been undermanned through suspension or wracked with injuries? Surely Geelong and Hawthorn have played these teams with the same player issues that we have. All I will say is that we would have been around the same spot on the ladder last year had it not been for us virtually missing our entire midfield through long term injuries ourselves. We are just making the most of a good year with a full team.

Yes, I thought the same thing. When We were poor, always opposition stars from short/long term injuries came through our game, Hirdy, Buckly, Loyd, etc....

Now after a few years bad lucks(Chris, Darcy, Hahn, Murch, etc...), things are changed. I can smell it.

Getting injured is a sign of weakness not an excuse to lose.
Good teams have depth.
Injuries are not an excuse at all as far as I'm concerned.

Not taking away anything from our super peformance this year.

Besides Geelong (it is not our fault we have not played them) we have played and won against every other team in the 8. An impressive performance by any measure.

Geelong has practically a full list to choose from at the moment (probably only missing Egan from their best 22 and he has now not played for some time).

I will be watching them with great interest tonight. It should be super game and I have a sneaky suspicion that they will lose a prime mover to some type of injury.

You can slot Aaron Davey alongside Brock McLean although he is not out because of injury moreso team discipline. Still he almost always played well against us.

As posted above. The curse continues.

Davey is now out on some club imposed suspension for unprofessional conduct!

Still no misfortune at Geelong, they are absolutely flying.

Still tipping some type of Geelong misery before we play them in two weeks time.

(BTW ... It is not the point if we would have or not have beat any teams if they had their full squads. Just looking at the good luck we appear to be having this year in relation to the players missing from opposition teams. I hope this good luck continues for 12 more weeks. I also agree we would have won most of those games regardless of who played for the opposition teams, but obviously I'm biased :)).

Maybe the misfortune at Geelong is that they have to play us the week before their "match of the year" against Hawthorn.... hopefully they have their minds on the following week... just a thought anyway

Hardly. He almost always cops the golden Glove.

Davey has kicked more goals and had more possessions against us than any other club. Admittedly he's played against us more than any other club, but even on average his numbers against us are very close to his best against anyone, and he did get injured relatively early in a game against us, which would artificially lower his average against us. He also played possibly his best ever game (29 possies, 3 goals) in our first meeting last season. So yeah, he does go well against us.
