Are we going to get headlines and lead articles endorsing Hird, every day, every week until a coaching decision is made?
Bear in mind we‘re not talking about a side playing in the finals. Not even about a club that’s been even mildly successful over the last decade or more.
We’re talking about a profoundly mediocre bottom 4 side that hasn’t won a final since 2004 !!!
In today‘s PR push for Hird from the Herald Sun, some nondescript journo called Lauren Wood (Robbo must be writing tomorrow’s PR job), has quoted a nondescript “prominent” Essendon coterie member by the name of Mark Casey who says that Hird is one of “the smartest footballer and intelligent guys that I’ve ever met”. He’d be really happy to see Hird back as coach.
But the best piece of delicious irony?
Marko Caseyboy is quoted -
“I know one thing about James - he always has a plan”
It took me 5 minutes to get up off the floor after my laughing fit subsided
Hirdy’s last plan at Essendon went well, Marko old chap, didn’t it !!

Perhaps Robbo’s located Hirdy’s 95 year old maiden aunt who is hot to endorse him (if she could only remember who he is)

He's never ever going to get the job. Just funny that it's happening.
I mean he's only moved from 5th favourite to 2nd favourite, with the bookies, overnight.
Not a chance in the world at getting the job...

Surely they wouldn't even entertain interviewing the guy responsible for 34 blokes becoming syringe sucking drug cheats. Surely!

I just think this is Essendon's way of denial. It's been clear over the years they have never accepted they did anything wrong, no apologies have been forthcoming, and by "interviewing" Hird it's their final denial. Essendon wonders why other clubs detest them.

Zach Merrett, Jobe Watson, all publicly saying he's not the right person for the job, so what a train wreck this is. Never change Essendon!

There must be a bad vibe among the players for him to come out and say this. Doubt he is running solo in the media without his team mates backing him.

The coaching thread on the * board is a great read. A few rational posters trying to hold back the horde of Hird fan boys.
my favorite is where Hird fan boys argue his experience (one part time assistant gig in the last 7 years) is superior to Yze who’s been a successful assistant in multiple winning teams - “but but he’s the only one with senior coaching experience”. Also when assessing his coaching record they take out the WADA affected games because it’s “not fair to include them”.
It would be like Enron (if they still existed) hiring their old CFO back on the basis they “had CFO experience” and “if you take out the accounting fraud period they actually did a reasonable job”. Just madness.
