Noice. Who cares what the actual quotes are? The fact that this fight is happening in the newspaper is spectacular.

Hird the senior's shot is in response to this from Barham at the * AGM.

Yes, we may have Don Scott, but Scott is just a curmudgeon. He will never deliver poison like this, fortunately.

Jesus - Barham has been there since 2022 and inherited a football club that was a shambles at every level. I know Hird's son knows how to destroy a footy club after a singular season - but perhaps it takes more time to rebuild one? It's a tough one, I want Hird to look stupid - but that would mean Barham is achieving things at *. Let's hope there is an outcome where they all fail and are disappointed.

There’s nothing like a smouldering festering angry father supporting his son.
Hird senior, of course, is a Sheedy lover because Sheedy idolised his son. And Sheedy wanted Hird junior to come back as coach, even after the disgraceful drug-related conduct of Hird junior, which was instrumental in reducing his footy club to the absolute pits.

Barham is also a w***er, of course, but all he’s really been saying, in his turgid manner, is exactly what Hird has summarised in the last paragraph of his ranting article😂

Alan Hird played 4 VFL games for Essendon in the 60’s and is otherwise an angry 78 year old man complaining that the current club doesn’t have the desire to win and they should go back to the “Sheedy Years”.

Conveniently overlooking the fact that:

1. the last 3 of the Sheedy years involved them finishing 13th, 15th and 12th.
2. The desire of his son James to win at all costs, saw the club totally rooted for several years due to the Dank program.

You've absolutely nailed it.

His legend of a son is now coaching Port in the VFL.

As much as Barham sounds like an fwit, he's largely on the money. Plus he finally cleared out Dodo after 30 years. Which no other prick there has managed to do.

It's interesting that our sliding doors moment was Dunstall getting in Clarkson rather than "one of the boys".

I’m pretty sure you’ll find the infighting amongst the cotorie groups & board members is still going on.

They may not have the influence they once had but they are still there making noise

Exactly...and as we all well know the strange sacking of Alan Joyce in favour of Peter Knights was the catalyst for our own "dark years".

Edit: I was in grade 6 when Schwab walked and I remember clearly seeing banners stating "WE WANT WALLACE". Speaking of "one of the boys", that was a bullet well and truly dodged.

Not sure why this forum loves to rag on Terry Wallace.
Absolute champion player, fearless, durable and a machine at getting to the ball under every pack.
Then as coach goes to an absolute basketcase VFL side in Footscray who held up the very bottom of the ladder seemingly every year and turned them into a finals team that competed at the pointy end.

Such a dumb narrative just because he had tickets on himself.
So did every other player at Hawthorn in those 80's years of superstardom for the Club.
Deserves so much better from our own.

Loved him when I was a kid. Remeber watching him on Open Mike years ago saying he had a massive falling out with Allan Jeans hence his departure from the club.

When Richmond signed Wallace I was ecstatic, did not want him coaching the club based on what I saw at the Bulldogs.

When they media ‘caught’ the hawks admin and Wallace outside glenferrie oval they all looked so guilty.

Whether intentional or not, hawks interest in both eade and Wallace helped bulldogs and Richmond focus on signing them up quickly.

All (wb rich haw)bottom of the table in 2004 but were playing off in finals by 2008

A lot of supporters pretty filthy we didn't get either of them.

I remember thinking "this clarkson bloke can hardly string a sentence. I'm concerned".
Real Tony Abbot vibes at the start with Clarko

All that may be true about Wallace as a player - but he was an ineffective coach at best, and a toxic personality to have at the club at worst, as evidenced by how he white anted another Hawthorn premiership hero in Alan Joyce when at Footscray. And a break from the old boys mentality is exactly what we needed, and we have 2008 and the threepeat to show for it.

Not sure what you are on about regarding Footscray, he never made a GF there, and Footscray already made the finals both full years Alan Joyce coached them in 1994 and 1995.

Let's not even mention Wallace's effectiveness as Richmond coach. A decade of coaching across two clubs, two prelim losses and one straight sets finals appearance at the first club, and no finals appearances at all at the second club. I'm glad we got Clarko.

Final point: How many of the other 80s premiership Hawks had a falling out with Yabby - yes even the others with tickets on themselves?

And all he got in return was an unfair dismissal suit...30 years of pocketing a paycheque with bottom tier work performance wasn't enough for you hey Dodo? Thanks for Massimo <3
