HAHAHAHAHA

---------------------------------------------
The author behind the jaw-dropping Hawthorn racism review could face potential charges over allegedly stealing from an organisation set up to help Indigenous communities.

Former Richmond forward Phil Egan wrote the report that detailed allegations of sickening and systemic racism within the Hawks and by senior figures such as Alastair Clarkson and Chris Fagan.

But Egan is reportedly under Police investigation over claims he fraudulently gained hundreds of thousands of dollars from Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative through a fake invoices scheme.

Victorian Police confirmed to the Herald Sun they were investigating alleged fraud against a “Robinvale-based organisation”.
“Detectives from the Financial Crime Squad are investigating a number of allegations of fraud relating to the management of a Robinvale-based organisation,” a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed.

The allegations against Egan stem from 2010 to 2012, while Egan was a senior manager at the co-operative, and involve claims he made payments from MVAC to unqualified contractors, who then put the money in his bank account.

No charges have been laid, with all allegations in an investigative stage.

Any charges against Egan could have consequences for the ongoing AFL-commissioned independent investigation, including calling into question the integrity of the initial review.

The review that shocked the AFL world concluded that between 2010 and 2016, Clarkson, Fagan and Burt used “bullying and intimidation” against Indigenous players and their partners.

It was also claimed players and partners were encouraged to seek abortions.

Gambit One - discredit the report by discrediting the author

Correct, it’s a hit piece. But even if it’s true he’s a corrupt money grabber, it doesn’t make the players’ stories untrue.

Blur the lines of credibility but avoid attacking the alleged victims.

Author of Report :whitecheck:
Journalist :whitecheck:
Office Girl :whitecheck:

Pretty sure we all know which way this is going.

‘What a terrible misunderstanding for all concerned….’

This just gets getting better and better. The Author of the Hawthorn racism report (an indigenous man) has been arrested and released with the expectation of charges to be laid in regards to running the Murray River Aboriginal Corporation.

Maybe. But he isn’t the one making the claims. He merely compiled a report on them. Presumably any investigation into the claims/ report will need to go to the source as far as possible.
His report was full of conjecture and a lot of the people interviewed have decided not to carry-on with the formal investigation. Given it was already a bit weak, this charge is probably enough for the AFL to sweep the whole thing under the rug.

I'm thinking an announcement the week before rnd 1, then it is all forgotten in 7 days because everyone is excited about the footy starting.

Not sure about that. The alleged actions were horrific. Don't think many people will just forget what was alleged.

BigFooty point scorers and the permanently outraged maybe, but your average whitebeard Australian paying customer could not give 2 shits about this - the AFL know that ultimately.

They just need to keep the lefties off their back re. sponsors/advertising revenue - navigate that well and they’ll happily let this one slip through the sands of time.

The issue with the report is it's full of contestable allegations that insofar as the public is aware are decontextualized and one-sided. The fact the author is a grifter does undermine confidence in the process.

The head office will be busy creating another themed round to get people feeling and fuzzy.

Not questioning any of that.

The idea I responded to was: it will be forgotten about quickly.

No matter what your thoughts are about the allegations, the way the report was created and released to the public, I think it's a safe to say it won't be quickly forgotten.

You can argue it has already been forgotten. Unless it unveils some definitive bombshell, it will fade away in the same way Collingwood and the "do better" thing disappeared.

I think the biggest shame with this is that it was represented as primarily motivated by racism. The allegations speak more to issues with player welfare overall and Sam Mitchell's comments back this up (Clarko took his phone and stopped him talking to his family for days).

Had they played it better, the AFLPA could have got involved to leverage the entire playing group and changes be made co-operatively which could lead to something meaningful occurring.

Instead, some jerk ABC reporter went off half-cocked and the argument is falling down like Jenga.

“Our stories will be told and they will be heard,” they said in a statement.

“Change for the better is coming.

“We are utterly determined to make the AFL a safer place for all First Nations players and their families.

“We trust that as a further demonstration of its good faith commitment the AFL will now detail how and when it intends to commence this work, the terms of reference, who will undertake it, and if it will be open and transparent to the world,” they said in their latest statement.

“To the media and clubs who want to eliminate racism in AFL football, please hold the AFL to its commitment.

“We want the AFL to be realigned to the right side of history.”

I don't know who their lawyer is but I love them. Straight on the front foot about open and honest transparency and getting the media involved to force the AFLs hand into doing so. Hopefully this builds so much ground swell the AFL can't run from it
So had a choice of media or the HRC?

Strange you wouldn’t go the latter first, as the media will follow unless ……..
