What I'm saying is that our ball winning issues are actually more prevalent in our forward and back lines than in our midfield. Accordingly, we ought to prioritise playing ball winners on those lines rather than concentrate all of our decent ball winners in the midfield.

We were 7th in the league for clearances but 18th for contested possessions. That tells you that the midfield is decent at getting the ball out (largely in Naitanui's absence, no less) but that the rest of the team struggles to win contested ball.

A midfield of Yeo, Shuey, Kelly, Gaff, Sheed, Redden and Naitanui is a good contested ball unit. The absence of good ball winners on the other lines hurts us, because it's not just the midfielders that have to be responsible for winning contests. Our prime movers can't be at the foot of every marking contest around the ground.

In what universe are Rotham and Watson ball winners? Spare me.

The other issues with "Duggan to the midfield" are:
1) He's not a good midfielder and generally struggles to accumulate the football; and
2) We don't have room in the midfield to play him, particularly in circumstances where we trade for Tim Kelly.
That is a very different view!?
Not sure whether that can be back up by statistics/data?

Geelong had to give a top 10 pick for Danger, but most importantly wait for him to become a FA.

TK is a long way from being a FA. Circa 6 years. I'm not sure WC can get him if Geelong choose to retain him

Not sure if you're new to footy or not but players break contract by requesting to go to another club all the time.
You guys just recruited a contracted Mitch McGovern for example.

Yes but hes victorian

And supports a victorian club

If a player wants to go to victoria its only just and right

Just like how hill has nominated st kilda.

We jsut need another midfield rotation to help out Shuey, Yeo and Redden. Beyond those 3 we dont have many else.
To enable this extra midfield rotation we need to cease playing 3 talls and a resting ruck in the forward line.

Basically going back to 2017 where we had a mid playing HFF. I think this will work better with Kelly and dv

I really don't get the rules with trades. Don't players need to give a certain number of years of service regardless of contract status? Otherwise many more players under 25 (that have given their years of service) would be able to elect a trade.

I thought the only ones that can elect to leave freely when OOC were Free agents.
Hasn't stopped your club raiding GWS year after year as SOS gets their kids t nominate Carlton.

funny how the Vic media is reporting Brad Hill will be playing at the saints because he nominated them

the hypocrisy and double standards are next level
genuine question, is inbreeding illegal in Victoria ?
No it's compulsory.

Well lets hope he is coming and he does select us. if he does these are a few of the scenarios that might get it done.

WCE gain T.Kelly
GEE gain Pick 15, 22

WCE gain T.Kelly Pick 36
GEE gain Pick 15, 22, 32

WCE gain T.Kelly, pick 36
GEE gain pick 15, Future first round pick

WCE gain T.Kelly Future Second
Gee gain pick 15, Future first round pick

WCE gain T.Kelly Pick 54
GEE gain Pick 15, 22, 32

Best to worst is how i have listed them but i think it will be one of these outcomes.

IMO the 2nd last is the best.

Kelly plus Cats future 2nd for pick 13 plus our 2020 1st.

We win next year and Cats fall away.

We still have 22 and 32 in this draft. Trade both for pick 11 and get Robinson.

And two 2nds next year is a draft filled with fs and academy kids. Clubs will be trading down into the 2nd round next year and we have two 2nds to land a 1st.

I see Whateley again this morning has continued on his crusade about asking everyone what kelly is worth.

Not much luck this morning. Apparently a single digit pick or a teen + early 20’s.

I am sure he will file that away quietly.
He was trying so hard to get Ginger Sam to say he is worth 900k plus.

You could feel the disappointment when Sam said only 800k max :$

My favourite new argument, as people are coming around to the realisation that we may get Kelly for 13+22, is that these picks aren't as valuable this year because last years draft was much stronger.

Gee, if only there was a way Geelong could have leveraged Kelly for picks in last years draft... oh well.

If they win a flag with him this year they can let him go for nothing as they won anyway

The main concerns for Tim Kelly in this employment issue are to:
1. play for a good club like WCE,
2. get a good financial and living environment for the family.
The quantity and quality of trade picks involved are not his concerns.

We used pick 22 to pick Scott Selwood and cost Geelong nothing to get him back to Victoria through FA. WCE is angry to have only pick 37 as compensation.
Tim Kelly was picked by Geelong with pick 24. He is out of contract and will qualify to go into Preseason Draft with the rights to specify his paying and contract conditions including living in Perth. WCE should not pay more than pick 24 to get him. If Geelong is not happy with a pick 24 (or our pick 22 and keep the change), we will pick Tim Kelly in the PSD and Geelong will get nothing back.
For the good of our club future, our 1st and other picks in 2019 is critical for picking the WA talents like Jackson, Stevenson, Rivers and Sharp.

Fremantle have an earlier pick in the PSD - and since you can not specify a club, they could meet all of his requirements. We have no guarantees of getting him there. If we don't offer a fair trade, and Kelly refuses to be traded to Freo - the Cats are within there rights to let him walk for nothing, and Freo pick him up anyway.

There's no way in the world Geelong will accept pick 24 for him and nor should they.

Pretty sure he won't nominate for the PSD.
If he did, Freo would snap him up anyway.

That is how a good list manager and recruitment team come in to handle situation like this. Some innovative and creative action need to be implemented.
