That it was. And full credit to you blokes for the win :thumbsu:

Do you think you are a little off your best at the moment or do you think teams are starting to figure you guys out?

To be completely honest and maybe it's biased but i don't think any team in the competition would look brilliant with 7 of their best 22 out and losing another one early in the game, that's a third of our best team which is pretty massive IMO. So yeah we're off our best a little but just hoping we can get our proper side out there before too much longer.
We got smashed out of the centre tonight except the last quarter which is a little worrying but still there are guys out that would have helped that situation.
Adelaide never seem to have a really bad year, they seem to rebuild and bring young players through while staying up the top of the ladder which is a huge effort.
Best of luck for the rest of the year

Mate, I agree, there was not much in it, I am just saying with the rules the way they are, he has to go.
Which set of rules are you basing this on? there seem to be 2 sets. The Goodes rules and the rest of the AFL's rules.

Personally, being a Hawthorn supporter i hope they judge him on Goodes rules but he generally gets a rough rub from the umps so i would expect him to get rubbed out for between 1-25 weeks based on the MRP consistency this season:D

On a serious note bock was fantastic tonight and fully deserves all the kudos he gets for his shutdown of the budernaught. Thankfully the levelheaded crows supporters arent blowing their loads over his 35 possessions which were mostly chips across half back (please do not see this as a slander against Bock i just don't rate statistics)

you are not hijacking the thread mate, Im interested in what the hawks supporters have to say. I know he had 8 shots on goal, but alot of them were tough shots. Defenders dont mind their players having shots from where he was.

I kind of hope he doesnt go for his hit as it may restore some faith the game with Goodes also getting off but I know if he does I will also be spewing.

yeah a lot of his shots were from tough positions but that's why he's a freak and feared coz he has been kicking them from those sort of situations all year, the last few weeks especially. But he does miss a lot of them too, he has kicked more behinds that the next player has kicked goals this year.

Had buddy kicked 7-1, 6-2 or even 5-3 i don't think that would change how people viewed bock's game because he still had the better of him when it was a 50-50 ball.

And to you- although I feel we may need the luck a little more than you

I'm still not convinced you'll take the flag away from the Cats or the Dogs but footy is an interesting game. As long as Port Adelaide or the Magpies don't win it I'm a happy man.

Pantsed  Please. Would have been a different story had he kicked straight. You all know it. Delivery was awful to him too.

As I said in another thread, his oppurtunities were far different from the usual. He leads and marks most of the time, however he was mostly underpressured and only got the mark-kick going on a couple of occasions. Comprehensively beaten in his usual game style. If Buddy had kicked 8 straight (including the one that went out of bounds), I think it may have been a different story, but his oppurtunities weren't the same as he usually would get.

Was a very good game. Good crowd as well!

Bock was too good tonight, the Adel backline played terrific and deserve the praise (they went in with a game plan, and it was executed very well)....
however, one observation I do have is around Michael Dougherty....outside of the report, I noticed him throwing his head back whenever he was tackled (don't believe me? go look at the game and check when he is tackled.......he did get 3 frees tonight)

If i have missed something here, happy to be enlightened....just not the typical sort of player I would expect coming out of Adelaide....

It was very un Doughty like, I did see it, he's normally a no nonsence tough as nails type player and it did go back a couple of times. Once he did get a finger in the eye I think though which is a little understandable.

With regards to the OP, I completely agree, whist I rate Buddy as one of if not the best player in the comp, it shits me to tears how all we hear about is him. He's an amazing player, but the Hawks are a team, not one man and if it weren't for the rest of the team kicking it to him the majority of the time he wouldn't get it. Great player, but please the all in love fest is just a little too much, by the sounds most of the commentators would sleep with him given half a chance.

As for whether Bock should have run with him up the ground, if you look back on it, none of Franklin's possies up the ground actually "won" the game as such, a couple had the potential to perhaps, but didn't, so he probably broke even with Bock, but wasn't the match winner. That IMO has to go to Hodge, not only with his goal, but just his ability to find space and hit up players with a 50 metre pass every time, he is an absolute gun.

OK, thanks for the assessment and the feedback on Doughty...as far as Hodgey goes....we are just p*ssing in each others pockets on how good this guy really is......superstar

Yeah, Bock got him.

In the first quarter there were 3 blokes playing on him. I had never seen such close attention payed to one player. But later on in the game when it was more one on one Bock beat him in many contests. He played a very good game.

Buddy wasn't completely shit though. A few of his snaps/kicks missed by a bee's dick and he could have had 3 or 4, and his last quarter was pretty inspiring.

When Buddy went up the ground Craig obviously instructed Bock to let him go.

In the last quarter Franklin was standing Makay (11 game player) on the wing. I would have tagged him with a Goodwin or such like but Bock stayed at centre half back for our structure.

Best game Bock has ever played

Buddy was under par but got eight shots on goal (several from ground ball sin contested situations) and 21 possies. The bloke is a freak. Bock beat him. Both will be All Australian.

Ahhh, thank you. Finally a thread I can join without feeling guilty for disliking Buddy! He had a shocking game tonight, soundly beaten by Bock.

I agree that the first three quarters were terrible. Last quarter he made an effort because he was given the opportunity to roam around. He was REPORTED because he was frustrated. The commentators stated he was being beaten convincingly, but at the end of the game, they still praised his efforts for trying in ONE QUARTER!

In my eyes, yes he does great things from time to time, but its not great when its inconsistant.
For starters, he was so shocking he and Hodge willed us to victory in the last.

Secondly, if you truly believe that he hit Doughty in a a split second decision because he was frustrated then you listen to Malcolm Blight and Robert Walls way too much.

And thirdly, 60goals in 12 rounds is quite a few more 'great things'
than 'from time to time'.

Could've easily kicked 5 or 6, yet Bock would've still go the points.
The guy is a freak.

Let me just say this, I am a huge fan of Buddy, I think he is the best player in the AFL, but tonight he was soundly beaten by Bock.

Buddy had a good last quater, covered alot of ground but he was pantsed for 3 qtrs and then broke even in the 4th. Come the end of the game all the commentators get a semi over Buddy and his game.

Bock was huge tonight but come the end of the game he is not getting any judos.

Franklins hit, to me is a pretty clear cut thing, he has to go, for mine, it is pretty similar to Burtons, not much in it but stupid. The commentators are already claiming its only a glancing blow etc etc. Its like they are trying and willing to get him off.

I may be just frustrated but right now I am over the buddy love.

Bock definitely won the night. Franklin only just missed a couple, but 1.6 is a fairly reasonable account for his night.

The delivery would of looked poor on tv. Bock use his body to get into the spot that the kick to Buddy was meant to go to. Buddy has one set shot and that was his goal. The 6 points and on Out on Fall were all caused by the pressure applied to him. Against another team Buddy would of got 7.0

Clarkson having to move Buddy into the midfield and CHB was a massive win for us. Craigy should of made Bock stay with him. Once in the midfield, away from Bock, Buddy did dominate, and gave Hawthorn the upper hand.

Bock played very well tonight. Would love him at the hawks.

I am actually glad we won without buddy kicking a bag. Might shut some of the people up that think we are a one man team who only wins when buddy dominates.

I was at the game and i thought the delivery was poor to all of our forwards for most of the night. The amount of times the ball was kicked over a leading players head was very frustrating.

Bock did play very well though and won the one on ones for sure.

I've been out all night and know nothing about the game but I am absolutely wrapped that this was another close game between our clubs ... You guys are the number one club that I respect and even though it will annoy the shit out of you I think it is great we are creating a rivalry together ...

Can't believe we managed to get over the line, so proud of the boys ... I know it won't help much but the fact that us in full force only struggle to get over the line against you guys when you are full of youth and reinventing yourselves is a credit to you ...

Sorry to hijack but just wanted to add the unbiased hawthorn view that bock had the better of him tonight, thought he should have followed him up the ground in the last quarter though. Buddy had his usual 8 shots on goal, set shots, snaps, on the run, but every one on one when the ball was in the air bock had the better of him, and then ran off him a lot. Bock had midfielder type number of touches tonight and thought were probably all effective.

I don't think buddy will be rubbed out but then again i didn't think or want burton and rob murphy to be either so he'll probably go for one or two. Good game tonight.

Yeah, it was an accidental hit. I don't think he went for the head, it was just the head in the way. Even Burton's hit was accidental.

I don't think I could ever say a bad word about your team to be honest ... Us Hawk fans are so stoked that our club has finally become the professional outfit you guys have been forever and will always have huge respect for you...

Didn't see anything of the game and can't believe we won... :thumbsu:

Was the type of game where... even though we lost, leaving the game i couldnt think of much else we could've done. We did a hell of alot right, and still lost. Thats a credit to your current team.

I may be just frustrated but right now I am over the buddy love.

Surely you know how the media is by now mate. It's not gonna stop. He is the poster child of the AFL right now. His attitude, looks and obviously his skills sell papers and tickets and recruits fans to the game.

Most of us Hawks fans would also like to see it toned down but what can you do.

Dont let it turn you into a petty jealous hater. Just enjoy watching him play (except when its your lot!)

Wow- this isn't at all predicable.

Buddy was pantsed and didn't kick straight because he was pressured into the tough shots each time. You know it.

.

Buddy is known for getting those tough shots through the sticks, thats what makes him so hard to stop. As most teams defences try to push forwards of any team out of the main corrider and to a wide angel reducing conversion succuess. In saying that, buddy didnt manage to do that and credit needs to go to bock for that, who most certaibly played his own game and created rebound from defence. Reckon he may become a marked man, with teams tagging him and giving a forward the job of getting him away away from the goal square....... top game brock and the crows:thumbsu:

Let me just say this, I am a huge fan of Buddy, I think he is the best player in the AFL, but tonight he was soundly beaten by Bock.

Have to agree mate. Bock was fantastic but let Buddy slip up the field in the 3rd and the 4th and possible the match was won as a result of it.
Hope to see Bock in the AA this year he should get in easy.
Great player and a great side, we'll see you in the finals.
