Which led immediately to Bartel's goal. The first of many "oh wait it's GAJ, prior opportunity is irrelevant" decisions over the past 7 or 8 years.
Yeah, it was clear early that Geelong were going to get a free ride that game. Not that it would have altered the result, but Geelong kept not too far ahead early and getting the confidence (remembering back then they were a litany of GF failures) to go full bore attack would have resulted in a more normal 30 - 40 GF loss. A loss, but not soul destroying.

The Ebert shot early was woeful. Directly in front, 35-40m out and he scrubs it. It was the perfect storm of us not being switched on, Geelong ready to go straight to the jugular and the bounce of the ball not being on our side.

One of the worst days of my life

I am sure if Michael Wilson wasn't injured in the prelim, we could have at least prevented between 1 and 3 Geelong goals

Yes we lacked a lot of things against that great Geelong side and strength was one of them. I guess when your coach feels that he owes it to the game to be an entertaining victim rather than turn the game into an ugly mess then it really doesn't matter.

Errrr mine too but let's stop bringing it up, it will burn in the guts forever and postives can come from that

Ebert was injured and could barely stand on one leg.... his lost his balance from his groin problem in that shot and every other one he tried. Too many players went into the game injured.

If we had not been smashed we may not have regained our soul as Port Adelaide Fc forged though adversity.
We may have ended up Crows lite enjoying mediocrity.

The umpiring was disgraceful that day. Geelong perfected the art of dropping their bodies for round the neck or in the back. It was infuriating then and still annoys me now. However the best team won but if the umps pull another performance like that the Port crowd will be ropeable.

Look at Port Adelaide’s meteoric rise - King Kenny might have helped but they did it off the back of a critical mass of young players picked high in the draft.

This is what majority of the plebs don't understand about the transformation our club went through from on/off field laughing stock to top 4 contender. Ralphy thinks top picks are a miracle cure all for success, it takes more than top draft picks to build a winning culture.

Most of our experienced players (Boak/Schulz aside) were mid-late picks, the young top end talent are the icing on a pretty good cake built from solid mid range recruiting.

The Dees have had priority pick after compo pick & they're no closer to becoming a good side than they were a decade ago, get the admin & football department fixed before continually gifting them top 10 players to churn through.

What Jon Ralph doesn't know about Port Adelaide could fill several mainframes.

To be fair we now have 12 first rounders in the squad. That helps, but in the end its hard work and good smart development that counts.

That magical "12 first rounders!!!111" includes Schulz, Monfries, Polec and Ebert doesn't it?

The way that figure is bandied about you'd think we had an army of priority picks.

Yeah it includes them. Bottom line is you need a decent chunk of top line talent - Chad does freaky things, Ollie does freaky thinks for a 19 year old etc. So it helps, but you gotta develop them.

We never got the big free kick of 1+2 ie priority and first picks or 2+5 priority pick + first round and get a decade of power house KPF's in one hit.

Yeah any decent side should have at least 8 first rounders on their list at any one time.

Add to that the picks for trading Burgoyne. Fairly sure we have only been given 1 first rounder per year like everyone else with the exception of GWS, GC & Melb who got more for being new / crap and Adel & Essendon who got less for being cheating campaigners.

How many players have partners that work at 5AA?
All of the partners of players that work at 5AA left work early yesterday makes it sound like a few?

Not sure if this is the right place, I came across this old article (Feb 2013) - just shows what some stats are worth !!

"Football's annual statistical bible, compiled by Champion Data, rates the Power as having the second-worst list in the competition, ahead of only GWS"

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/no...o-afl-prospectus/story-fnelctok-1226567303294

Good for a laugh!

It shows the limitations of the Champion Data products- they are like a mirror, and tell you where you have been. Which is fine, but no guide to tell you where you are going. That 2013 prospectus would tell us that we had a lousy 2012. The 2015 prospectus will be a damn sight rosier about us, I can assure you. And not worth paying the $40 or whatever they charge for the full data.

Pretty much spot on. I'd be happy to take some of these 'worst list of the competition' cloggers filling up GWS for free.

So Balfours aren't the only ones aiding the Cows in cheating the salary cap?

Sounds very 80's.
