Who can we get who is playing career best footy tazza? And for how much?
Well that's the thing. There is no one. But we are playing with our insurance policy too much that it could become a deficiency. Good depth means a good list.
It'll get worse before it gets better.
I'm under the impression our window will open soon. I get the feeling the club thinks its a little further off.
I'm always a firm believer that you never plan for a premiership. You make it happen. We have seen good recruitment the past 3 years but this year is the first where we have culled depth players.
How long does this rebuild go for?

Fascinating day coming up. When we were first linked to him I couldn't see how a trade for Jacobs will be done. It's no clearer now. Reckon the kid will end up in the draft.

Hopefully Taylor Hine will be ours. Pick 39 should be more than enough, and I think he is the most likely of the linked names to have an immediate impact.

Less enthusiastic about Gysberts, who is a poor fit for our midfield even if he does make it. The fact that he's been nominated for the Rising Star not once but twice is another indictment on that award. A straight swap for Pedo though? Of course I'd give that a go. Check out their draft from that year. Yikes.

Oh yeah, and:

No. 1 pick: Jack Martin
GWS received: 2012 Draft picks No.2 and 63, and 2010 end round one compensation selection
Gold Coast also received: End round one 2011 compensation selection

No.2 pick: Jesse Hogan
GWS received: 2012 draft pick No.3 and 2011 mid round one compensation selection (to be used in this year's draft, currently No.13)
Melbourne also received: Dominic Barry (NT zone selection) and 2011 round one compensation selection (to be used in this year's draft, currently No.20)

Luke McDonald was eligible for that. Most judges say he would have been the clear #1 pick.

Just how good was the depth though? Outside if H none of those going have ever been anything more than handy. Yes, they can do a job when called upon, but if we can replace them with players in the 19-21 bracket who the club thinks will have a greater ceiling in a season or two then i'm all for that. Add to that the likes of Mullett, Kennedy and McKenzie are also on the cusp of being AFL ready in 2013 then we place ourselves in a position where we have greater depth, for longer, than ever before.

I would rather push for this then sit on our hands or recruit mature players who will hold the fort. I had enough of that under Laidley.

We are playing the long game here tazza because we will not get a lengthy top 4 challenger team by trying to force a flag because Boomer and Drew are on the precipice.

I encourage a few of you to look at Collingwood's reserve team for 2012. It was atrocious.

Getting rid of blokes who are playing reserves and have limited upside is just common sense.

Probably not to dissimilar to Cam Delaney, he's probably a bit quicker, and better on the rebound, reminds me a bit of Andy Otten, strong hands like Cam. Needs to put on a fair bit of weight.

Thanks Pykie.

I played at the Knights a year under his brother Cathal who was a bit of a freak athletically.

Aidan isn't that dissimilar but has a bit of extra height on his side, which will help him go that one step further to playing AFL.

Tested quite well at the Combine which was a positive.

Very good chance Cale Morton will land at Eagles tomoz. Jordan gysberts or pick 49 on table for Cam Pedersen. Cale Hooker maybe on move.

We get a choice?

Take Gys for Pederson, thats a decent trade imo, despite his shortcommings.

I'll back our development over Melbourne's.

Agree with Pykie - 49 not okay for Pedo, categorically not - and #godees haven't ****ed us, they just didn't get the compo we all assumed they would. Jizz a good option, and frankly a good opportunity for the club to turn him around.

****ing Morton is rubbish. Melbourne are basically pissing off about three years worth is shit picks at the moment.

Hey guys, just been catching up on the latest news... Any reason why North wouldn't be looking at trying to bring Toy in for one of our 2nd round picks? His heart condition doesn't sound like it will effect his football, so he seems to fit the type of player that could help our list...

Huh?

Don't cite Collingwood as some sort of gospel to follow. How did have f*** all depth work out for them this year? They copped injuries and had rubbish cover. As a result they massively under-achieved.

We've still got considerably better depth than them. We'll be fine.

Went to school with Cathal, was stoked that he got drafted to the saints. When Lyon came along he got the arse (like a lot of players)

Broke his ankle which didn't help either.

So you're a Viewbank boy TPA.

He's a wonderful asset at Macleod nowadays. Most of us boys at the Knights progressed through to the Bullants (now Blues), but Cathal had a crack down at Coburg with Nick Carnell and then at Vic Park in Collingwood's VFL side.

It was good to see him get rookied. Good bloke to boot.

There's a Knights re-union this Saturday, which at the moment Ben McKinley has confirmed he will attend.

Given his heart condition, 2nd round pick is not worth it. Now that it is common knowledge I would expect to see quick sprinters play on him wherever he goes.

Maybe a third round pick and try and see if he will work as a loose man in the back line. He has great skills and reads the play well but there would be massive question marks on him making it at AFL level, this game isn't very forgiving to people with medical conditions.

With Steve Saunders' track record I'd be comfortable with us trading for someone who's clinically dead. He'd have him up and running the Utah slopes in a month.

I don't think anyone will offer GC a pick they will use so he wont get traded, they will de-list him and he is then free to go to the club of his choice for free.

Then again, Melbourne might give a first round pick for him...

Our VFL team was dreadful, carrying four ruckmen and not a lot of tall guys through the spine. Injury cruelled players and robbed the VFL of continuity, but the lack of balance between talls and smalls and of good clearance players, combined with too few big-bodied, experienced VFL extras, basically prevented the team winning matches.

Because we are a stand-alone team, we have no reserves VFL team, which makes the set-up less flexible. The emphasis seems to be on development first, winning second, and the coach was a bit of a softy in Tarkyn Lockyer. Collingwood has also delisted every rookie but one of those selected the previous year, as none of them showed any real promise this year.

On another subject, our board is having a phantom draft and I chose to do the Kangaroo's draft selections, I am going through the relevant threads taking notes. You don't appear to have a separate draft thread so I assume this thread is the most relevant? I'd like to hear from people regarding North's needs (types and names), though I am happy to trawl your threads for information. Feel free to PM me if you like.
