I'm real nervous about trading for draft picks this year, just seems that every1 else is trading for experience and if so, a few teams may get the jump on us for a few years.

If we are looking at trading for a draft pick, for this so called Butcher, what pick would we be targeting. Top 7 pick, i havent seen any phantom drafts so i dont know.

And....if we are looking at a top 10 draft pick then we are obviously going to lose some good players. Davis/Didak/Reid/Brown/Medhurst/Fraser/Dawes......and probably a combination of a few.

Gee this makes me nervous as there is not too many of the names mentioned above i would like to see go Davis, Medders, Fraser, Dawes maybe.

Is all this hype surrounding Lovett justified. I have only seen him a few times and from what i saw he's just another Leon. At 27 years old i would only be interested in a late 2nd round pick at absolute most but some Dons poster think he's a 1st rounder....surely not.

Would we be interested in Ball/Tuck do you think?

I think these guys could add a toughness to the contest that we lack.

Why is everyone throwing up Dawes and Reid for trades? Dawes only started playing footy at about 15 or 16, so is learning and he is a big cat. His fitness is high and he has a good set of hands, can take a pack mark.

Reid will be a star at CHB (can even play forward). He can take a grab and since he had one dodgy run up when kicking for goal against carlton he has been labelled as someone who can't kick. He is only 21- he needs a chance.

The problem with MM is that he has halted the development of some of our future players. Although Leigh Brown did some good things (and i admit that if he could kick for goal everyone would be singing his praises), by not playing Reid we have held back his development. By not giving Stanley 4-5 consecutive games in the middle as opposed to half a game on a half forward, we don;t know if he can play at AFL level. He could be the inside mid/ defensive mid that we were looking for- but O'bree had his spot in the 22.

I'd keep Goldsack too

I think we can categorically rule out any trades for Davis, Brown, Reid and Dawes.

Of that list, only Dawes seems as the one who could go based on "seeking opportunity" elsewhere not because the club wants to move him on.

Brown and Reid are our future spine in the def 50. Not for sale.

Davis is now AA status and A-grade. Sure, his September wasn't great but he wasn't alone. Have a look at Steve Johnson's GF on the weekend. It wasn't highlighted because the Cats won. Had they lost, it would have been a different story. As for the straight swap for Lovett? Tell them their dreaming.

What a rubbish article by Jon Anderson. He has listed players that are stars (Davis) or players with a future at Collingwood as potential trades, whilst for other clubs he lists players like JON, Bentick, Tenace etc. all of whom have zero value and are certain delistees.

I would swap Lovett for Davis. He would give us blistering pace through the middle. It is his off-field issues that are of most concern. Davis has too often failed in finals, and simply offers false hope to supporters in the H&A games.

Dawes has to stay. However, if we got the right deal for someone like Didak, I reckon it should be carefully looked at, given his age and the fact that the wasn't exactly fantastic during the finals.

The trouble i see with this list is that it gives us nothing to trade. The names in the trade list, bar Cloke, IMO will attract none to little attention.

We are only going to fulfill our needs by trading good players on your untouchable list.

There's absolutely no chance of Ben Reid,Nathan Brown and Chris Dawes getting traded. I wouldn't take any notice of the Herald Sun. About the only one I would even consider trading would be Leon he does jack in finals and I seem to remember Mick saying he only rates players who perform in finals. I would only except a first rounder or a very good inside midfielder that we really need.

We must keep Dawes, Nathan Brown and Cloke, and must do everything to get Medhurst to stay.

I'd hate to see him go, but if we need real currency, I'd consider trading Davis.

I just can't see the logic in trading away players we have stuck by for so long who have eventually become A-grade talents. Last season it was Didak, this season it has become Davis and to a lesser extent Medhurst.

You can never have enough quality players.

These players are far too important to trade away just because the fickle media have brainwashed the general public that they are "down-hill skiiers". There have been many class players over the years who have had poor Septembers. The greatest player of all time Wayne Carey is one.

As I said before, did everyone watch Steve Johnson's GF on the weekend? There is no mention of it because the Cats on the back of a few players managed to pinch it.

Varcoe and Hawkins were also terrible IMO. So I get your point but Leon has done it on more then one ocassion but the talk on Cloke,Reid,Nat Brown and Dawes is absolute gabage. We drafted three of those guys for an eye for the future so why the hell would we trade them 3 years later it's just a load of crap.

I am happy for us to keep these young guns and established players that you mention and I understand that in doing so I can expect to see nothing of any value coming to Pieland, I am comfortable with that.

What I hate seeing is posters 1 minute saying that we should keep these players and then head to another thread and say that we need Pavlich, Kerr, Lake, Burgoyne, Jolly, Sandilands, Fev and to a slightly lesser extent Ball.

You have to realise that these trades half of you guys rant about will go hand in hand in losing some good young prospects.

You can't have it both ways, unless your Paris Hilton!

For those people still criticising Leon for his finals (yes he was poor) but go and have a look at the EF last year against the Crows. He killed em.

Of the players floated by other clubs, Fev & Ball would interest me but not at the expense of Ben Reid, N.Brown, Cloke or Dawes or a 1st round pick.

We wouldn't get a deal done for Fev and carlton won't trade him. It's just 1 big smokescreen to make the club look like they are taking some action after Greg Swann said last year "1 more alcohol related incident from Fevola and he's gone".

Luke Ball for a 2nd rounder and a fringe player.

Also, I have it on good authority that K Rudd has a 3rd nipple. It's just above his navel.

The Sad but True fact is every side is going to be putting players up for trade that they consider exactly as you consider those named from our list.

You don't trade very good players you trade "journeymen" who can maybe fill a spot another side has a deficiency in.

The Problem with suggestions we trade Cloke, Fraser and Davis is unless we already have a better or at least "as good" replacement already on our list we are trading backwards, hoping to pick-up an better replacement by sheer luck.

The only way to get a good player is to target them and offer over the odds and even then you have "sentiment" to overcome from his current club.

Really apart from a very few big names, already accounted for if the rumours are true, any traded player will just swapping deck chairs.

Yeah get rid of a guy that was in the top 5 at the club for kicks, handballs, marks, disposals, tackles and goals...

3-4 years left? and what happens to the kid who he is keeping out of the team? wasting away in the twos without getting any proper development just like stanley and possibly Dawes? He will retire at the end of 2010. As will O'bree and johnson (unless delisted). might not be much interest in johnson, but i reckon we should throw his name up next week.

I'd also argue that we shouldn't play presti and l.brown together in the backline as we need to give more AFL time to N Brown and Reid.

I agree entirely with the above. We simply cannot have all of Lockyer, O'Bree and Johnson in our team at the same time next year. They are simply at the wrong end of their careers and are not of premiership material, especially the latter two mentioned. Lockyer is a tremendous servant of our club and did have a good year but imho he gets found out against the better teams because he is simply too short and slow. He survives on his smarts. He should be kept for depth but I sure hope the youngsters push him out.

I don't want to see either O'Bree of Johnson get a game next year. We need to move past them even if that means we slightly struggle for experience in some games next year and take a tiny step back. It's time for some tough decisions at the club.

Also, Leigh Brown just shouldn't be any more than depth next year. I commend him on his efforts and he should stay on the list but i really hope he struggles to get a game.

I'd be nudging O'bree and Johnson off the gang-plank well before Tarks. One of our most dependable older players, wouldn't be getting rid of him.
