I wonder what my reaction to watching Trump having his brains head blown out off live on CNN would have been if the shooter had been successful.
I watch weekly on the news dead children and the like being carried off in the arms of grieving blood soaked relatives away from the source of the blast or shots. And as I do, I take another delicious mouthful of curried chicken or whatever I'm having for dinner that night, pat the dog, sip a nice chardonnay (it's fine with chicken!).
Perhaps in Trump's case I might have microwaved some popcorn. Why should I have cared? The dead young children on the news didn't have the opportunity to choose to become decent people. Trump did and chose not to.
I hope the Republicans get their arses handed to them. That they should so willingly and shamelessly nail their colours to a repugnant and devisive populist to guarantee 30% of the vote regardless of what vile things he may say or do or has said or has done .... they deserve to be punished.
You don't always get what you deserve but there's hope.

Good article. It is not just culture wars. There are clear dangers to Australia relying on a country with a President and VP who are isolationists.

Most people in this debate don’t necessarily want this ‘idiot’ to be president. But how bad must the Democratic Party be that they are willing to vote for an ‘idiot’ because there is no one representing the old fashioned, conservative leaning working classes?
JD Vance is one of them, he is young and still working out his ideals, but at least he has come from these people, a much truer representative.

Waste of a VP pick for Trump. Trump already had all the crazies. He gets nothing more from Vance. Just the same crazies. Very few would have read Vance’s book nor care for his life story.
Now Harris is the Dems pick, and the contest is back on, Trump would have been well advised to attempt to increase his base as an invigorated Democratic voting base is 7-10 million more (obviously this is not often reflected with the electoral college). Trump would have been better off picking Tim Scott.

I liked Shapiro. 19 electoral votes for Penn as well. Presidential material. He will tear Vance apart on stage.
Mark Kelly is terrific, a fighter. But Arizona has just the 9 electoral votes.
For those who questioned whether Kelly’s marriage/relationship history may have played a part, well…..Donald Trump is the Republican nominee, a rapist and p*rn star f**ker when his wife was pregnant. Therefore I don’t think it would be something the Republican’s would have touched.

Harris is nominally pro-ceasefire in Gaza, Shapiro is pro-Israeli occupation. Personally I think Kelly is the better choice, but hard to argue 19 electoral votes in Penn against thousands of dead or displaced Palestinians, I guess...

Massively wrong choice if true. The Democrats were facing a divide amongst young voters for their silence on Israel's actions in Gaza.
With indications many were considering voting independent or not voting at all in protest. So to settle for a pro Israel war senator, in what will likely be a super tight election. No the smartest choice to win back some voters.
