Big tick for me is the lack of floggings each and every week so far (admittedly only 3 rounds gone and to some extent still in the honeymoon period). It's nice to be out for the day and only get to check the score when you get home, and be pleasantly surprised by the absence of a belting. Last year I dreaded coming home and checking the score - always a "how much by this time?"

At least this year for all our faults we are in the game at 3qt time, rather than having lost by 1qt like last year

A bit of Voss era (coaching) about this Lions team. A real momentum team which isn't great but at least we are showing some ticker. Last year we just continually folded and you knew we wouldn't stage a fight back. Long way to go but an improvement.

Our contested work seems to have improved a bit.

We beat the Suns (+4) and Essendon (+8) at contested possessions, and against St Kilda (-11) the entire differential looks to have been contested marking (-12: Membrey alone got 5). Significantly, we seem to be finishing much closer (if not ahead) on free kick differential which we have been awful at in recent years. Taking out the isolated instances of poor umpiring, it seems that our discipline is improving and/or we're winning contests without infringing. Those numbers should all improve even further as our keys mature.

A nerdy stat maybe but still claiming it as a positive!

It has been 78 games [rounds 7, 8 & 9 – 2013] since we have scored 76 or more points in 3 consecutive games whilst also keeping our opponents to 111 points or less in 3 consecutive games.

So, looking at this from a positive angle – in Fagan’s first 3 official games as coach of the Lions he has already achieved something that Leppa was unable to achieve during his term as coach.

Actually, I might extend this a little further by noting that there were two away games and only one home game - the last time that THIS occurred was way back in rounds 9, 10 & 11 of 2010 - 146 games ago makes it even more of a positive IMO!

I like the fact that we have been in winning positions in every game so far this year. Sure, we get blown away for the last 5-10 minutes but at least we've been competitive and have not surrendered after the first quarter like we have been the past few years.
Has to be considered a big improvement on recent years.

Player attitude is the big plus for me, stats improve with that alone... just been happier flat out I suspect, which I think we have to credit the coaches with as they are pretty much mostly specialists in terms of young player development.

Some friends from work mentioned they were tipping the lions this week as their smokey in footy tipping comp. That did not happen once last year. Considering I live in adelaide and most are power and crows supporters, I see this as a major positive.

i tipped the tigers this week after tipping us for the first 3 rounds, hopefully my mistake turns out to be another positive.

I cant believe you have done that.
I hope you suffer the consequences of your actions.

latest injury list put up on afl.com yesterday, Christensen and Gardner playing. Rhys and Reuben were both with Cian in a re hab group of 3 at training yesterday and all 3 were moving very freely in high intensity sprint work, ball movement and marking drills. so Skinner the only one unavailable in the longer term.:):D

Allen Christensen- Shoulder 1-2 weeks
Darcy Gardiner- Corked quad Test
Rhys Mathieson- Ankle 2-3 weeks
Sam Skinner- Knee 6 weeks
Reuben William- Shoulder 2-3 weeks

I would imagine by now that Skinner is in the last phase of rehab with lots of strength work and increasingly intense game-style movements to check for soreness or weakness in the knee.

He seemed to do straight running quite freely in the preseason, so if this phase goes well he could be playing in late May or early June.

Mayes and Gardiner are 2 pick positives for me in terms of player improvement, both have easily been in the top 5 or so players this year. I would put them in my list of 'good' players (players that perform above AFL standard) that we have (which is sadly a very short list).

Zorko
Robinson
Rockliff
Rich
Beams
Martin
Andrews
Mayes
Gardiner

Imagine in 2 years time when cox is more confident in his ability to break lines and stronger to break tackles or at least hold his feet. We will have the inside of beams and rocky and the outside cox and mccluggage delivering lace out spears to hippwood and schache, who will then slot the goal from 35 out. Zorko might just have to be content with the crumbs :)
