Put down your glasses.

Big Red Jacobs is so far ahead of Warnock, it is not funny

Why?

1) Actually contests the ball in the ruck rather than just jump and then land when the ball is still on its way up
2) Can take a pack mark and be an option
3) Strong on the ground and contests

Well done son on earning your way in. Let's just hope ratten has the balls to keep you there

Big Red was excellent today.

He's a better ruckman than Kreuzer and Warnock.

It all depends on matchups.
If we come up against 2 mobile ruckman put Warnock in, if there's 1 mobile ruckman and the other a tap ruckman/slower ruckman put Jacobs in.

Could we have all 3 in the same side? Warnock and Jacobs rucking, Kreuzer up forward (Henderson to the VFL)/on a wing.

the debate is far from over, he's clearly the better tap ruckman out of hampson, warnock and himself. But definately the least effective around the ground. Its good that there is solid competition rather than the old 'HAckland' days.

Just looking forward to Hampson returning from injury. He and Kreuzer in tandem is by far our best rucking duo. Most likely to give something elsewhere from a ruck contest, which is where ruckman are actually important.

Hitouts are overrated IMO.

Agree but think that Warnock has more Kreuzer qualities than Sauce which may give him the gig

We probably lost the game because we couldn't get first use of the ball out of the center. Kreuzer was solidly beaten by Jolly today (Did well against Frazer), while Sauce turned the game on its head and led us to within 3 points of them.

I'm sure Juddy wouldn't mind getting one put down his throat now and again.

Outsiders view, you should play horses for courses.

You'll need Jacobs against sides that have bigger bodied ruckmen like Joll, Hudson and Hille, while you can afford the more athletic Warnock/Hampson against sides that have similar types. eg. West Coast, Brisbane etc.

This obviously assumes that Kreuzer plays regardless.

Thought Jacobs was OK. Not sure if the ruck debates over. Warnock played very well in the VFL. I also liked the Kruezer/Hampson ruck combo, because of the X-factor Hampson provides. Kruezer's not in great form at the moment.

A tad early on that call I reckon.

I'd like to watch the match again as I thought jolly kept putting his knee into Jacobs because jacobs couldn't jump high enough.

When Kreuzer was in centre contests he could jump that bit higher & not get taken out of the contest.

Either way I think Jacobs should get another game against strong ruckman in King & Gardiner.

Also good to see Warnock dominated in VFL.

Not sure what injury Hampson has but by the time he recovers & gets going in the 2's, will be hard for him to make an impact this season.

This is the reason why Jacobs will retain his spot next week. King & Gardiner would absolutely monster Warnock.

I agree, good decision putting him in the side I say.

When the taps go to McLean and he is too slow to get off the disposal, who cares anyway ... we went for that centre square play too many times which had McLean with his back to goals, get's the tap when stationery and having to get off a handball to the other midfielders moving forwards. Would have like more of the taps going to a moving midfielder so we only need the one disposal to clear the centre rather than 2+ which gives a good tackling side like Collingwood more chances to stop us!!!

For what it's worth on the ruck debate ...

a) Warnock has been far from brilliant, but I thought he had his best game last week and found it surprising he got dropped ... just seemed to be gathering a little momentum with each game

b) Jacobs impressed me with his tap work ability today, as he did early last year ... the bigger body means he does better from the boundary throw ins ...

Both have considerable improvement and upside left ... unfortunately we need to be patient

I still feel that if we didn't give up our 2nd & 4th round picks so early in the draft week a couple years ago, we could have picked ROK when he made a strong play to come back to Melbourne. Instead we had to try & sneak him in the PSD because we had no picks up our sleeve. IMO the 2nd & 4th round pick would have been enough to get the deal over the line

Also think we are paying over the odds on Warnock's salary too!!!

I saw Jacobs take a couple of strong(ish) marks today, one that even earn't him a slap across the back of the head from his opponent.

I don't think I've ever seen Warnock execute this skill in a game, yet.
