The Ruck Debate is Over

Jacobs was alright but didn't give us any thing extra that Warnock couldn't. I think this was just a wake up call/confidence boost for Warnock, I think he will be back to play against St. Kilda's big blokes.

Warnock can't take a strong mark, Jacobs is only an ok mark, I am not sure if his worth for his marking is any greater.

Big problem is our ruckmen are struggling to take marks this season. We need Kruezer especially to lift that part of his game and provide a target around the ground. Without checking the stats, I'd be shocked if he has taken more than 15 to 20 grabs so far this season. And the fact that our CHF hasnt been able to provide a marking target has really hurt us.

Who cares!!! Hit outs are rubbish anyway.

They just knock it anywhere, half the time to the opposition, such an overrated skill.

This is the reason why Jacobs will retain his spot next week. King & Gardiner would absolutely monster Warnock.

Really???

I thought Jacobs was quite good yesterday, however I could not figure out why Warnock was dropped. I thought he was quite good against both Adelaide and Geelong, considering he has missed so much football. I reckon Warnock will become very valuable.

The ruck debate is far from over.

Pleased to see Jacobs out there yesterday and he did fairly well for himself.

Jacobs is a better tap ruckman than Warnock & Hampson but offers little around the ground.

He has improved a heap on his body in trying to have a bigger impact outside of the ruck contests but has a long way to go.

Against bigger bodies it will be more beneficial for us if Jacobs plays as he is a huge kid more than capable of holding his own.

Yet he would get killed against the more agile and mobile ruckmen in the league and that is where Warnock and Hampson will come in handy.

I was surprised that Warnock got the chop after his game against the Cats but can see the logic behind it.

The debate is nowhere near over and will continue as the season progresses. Obviously Kreuzer is number 1 but the preferred 2nd option right now is an unknown and is anybody's guess.

What we do know is that we have some very healthy competition in a position that we severely lacked for many a year and that can only be beneficial for the players and the side as a whole.

Also think we are paying over the odds on Warnock's salary too!!!

With a comment like this you must be up to date with some pretty good inside information.

Care to elaborate on this post - in particular with what we are paying Warnock and exactly how you know this?

Or are you just another sheep that is over-reliant on the media who are involved in guess work and innuendo?

Hehe.

Yeah as an opposition supporter I thought Jacobs was quite a good performer for you guys yesterday. Still reckon Hampson could be the best of the lot though.

Gee i forgot about Hampson . His just exciting, because his an athletic freak, massive jump on him and has shown the ability to provide some good tap work (needs more work though on accuracy but again his young and will develop). Around the ground his good.

Great to see we have fierce competition in our ruck division, finally and their all young. :thumbsu:

Hampson doesnt mark the ball or split packs when contesting

No good

He can take a grab, and he'll get better and better. Expect to see this kinda stuff regularly in a couple of years.

Great position to be in, both Jacobs and Warnock (and Hammer when he comes back) have got some serious work to do to earn the number 2 spot :thumbsu:

Jacobs had a few great game sin the VFL before he got a spot, give Warnock a chance to back it up a couple of times before he gets a spot back.

Can't see us playing three, and if we did it would more likely be Kreuzer and Hampson + Warnock/Jacobs. Warnock and Jacobs for me don't have enough strings to their bows to play in the same side at this stage, we would be too tall. Unless Kreuzer plays permanently at CHF/FF, which isn't ideal IMO, prefer him doing rucking and roving will stints in the forward line.

The debate is definately not over but Sauce showed on the weekend he is the best tap ruckman at the club with some silver service to Judd in particular. Juddy must have thought he was back at Westcoast roving to Coxy a couple of times during the game.

However based on Sauce's one game so far, 206 is more involved around the ground.

Guess it will be horses for courses as to who plays when assuming we keep all the boys at the club although this will probably be unlikely.

Spot on...

I think it will take sauce a couple of games to get into stride but when he does I think Warnock will struggle to get his spot back...

Kreuzer's best position is in the ruck (ruckrover really)

BUT

If playing him forward (/wing) and letting 2 of the other 3 share the ruck, was to improve the team by even 5% while Hendo is developing - should we do it

There was talk about playing Kreuzer or Hampson forward.

If Lachie is destined to have a run in the 2s then it's worth a gamble this week - we have few tall forward options besides Waite and O'hAilpin.

Given the Saints' congested style of footy, our smalls may struggle. Hence Kreuzer's size may be a bonus where bombing it inside 50 is the only way of combating the flood.

If Gardiner, King and Koschitzke all play, having Jacobs and Warnock to ruck in tandem mightn't be such a bad idea.

Yeah agree, Hampson has a huge upside. We could afford to play Kreuser, Hampson and either Jacobs or Warnock in the same side with Kreus and Hampson swapping up forward.:thumbsu:

What a Monster Hampson is he looks like a 200cm Kouta

He will be back in the side eventually... And he is looking in good form :)

3 games in a row for the Big Red Maniac

The ruck debate is over. He is creaming all over Warnocks efforts, and he has done it against the best 3 sides in the comp

lol @ rating Port as a top 3 side to cover your own stupid mistake :D

The ruck debate remains far from over.

Warnock will be back and Sauce will give way when we start playing teams with more athletic ruckmen, not big lubering oafs like King, Gardiner and Brogan.

facepalm.gif

Yes, it should have been a 2 and not a 3.

..and no, i don't consider Port a top 3 team :thumbsu:

When you think about it, the fact we still have three ruckmen fighting out for the one spot can't be a bad thing, can it?

i don't see it that way

I see Sauce and Kruze as the starting ruckmen, with Warnock and hampson playing should injury strike. I dont see them pressing for a starting spot

Hampson could possibly get a game in the forward line or even as a mobile wingman (richo style).

Therefore, I dont see it as accurate to say we have 3 fighting for a starting spot.
