This is not indicative of what its normally like. Get a good game on a Friday or Sat night and the atmosphere can be awesome. I've been to plenty of games @ MCG, Marvel etc and I'd argue the SCG is just as good in a big game. I think the game was so friggin bad last night that people were just underwhelmed and the game had no atmosphere.

Admittedly I have been to only about 10 scg games over a decade plus , and tv is deceptive but feels to me it's a dud atmosphere more often that it is great. I have been there when it's rocking absolutely , just maybe we are too polite, need to get into the umps mind more 😂

Where's the sydney chant gone

We’ve been told not to boo & just sing along (i.e., be festive, not intimidating).

It’s a 2-3 goal disadvantage in my view.

What is "leadership" to you then because Heeney has been better than McInerney through the year despite him being down on form. He wins significantly more ball with his head over the footy in the contest, tackles more, and take more contested marks while Mac picks up cheapies on the wing.

Heeney was great last round playing on Cripps and was ok last night in his second game in the middle. McInerney looks great in full flight and can make the big play to jazz the crowd but he's also a turnover merchant with a tendency for absolute brain fades.

If leadership is solely about how close you play to your potential, then sure, but in all other facets, Heeney does more to take the team forward.
I could be wrong but I think GUH was referring to Hayden McLean

collingwood v swans pf at the scg was probably the best afl atmosphere i've attended. It's because you get die hard/proper supporters attending rather than casuals.

Swans Victorian fans flew up you mean :p

Probably too late to do anything now but I really think Horse has totally mismanaged Heeney's career. He almost did the exact same thing to Mills. Isaac should have been playing permanently in the midfield 2-3 years ago and relearning the craft. We should have backed Papley and Hayward to get the job done up forward. Small forwards, by the nature of their position, are always going to deliver inconsistent results/appear to go missing for patches. When Heeney started at the club we were flush with midfield talent and it made sense to play him up forward. Not anymore. I'd play him in the midfield for the rest of the season, inconsistency be damned. He should be in the prime of his career.

I also hate seeing Papley in the midfield. Get him out of there. He coughs it up more than he wins it.

Dud atmosphere - have you been to a game of rubgy union? Not saying the SCG compares to Adelaide oval or Optus Oval but I'll stand by it being a great ground to watch the footy... provided the game is alright. Agree with the other comment that the Swans V Collingwood game was the best atmosphere ive experienced and I've been to quite a few finals at the MCG. Yes the facilities don't compare to some newer grounds and clearly the supporters aren't as knowledgeable or passonate as some other groups, but dud is harsh!

Dud is harsh yes sorry

Lethargic at times maybe. Again my live games are spread over time but used to be a wilder crowd at the SCG IMO

Heeney is one of the most perplexing players in the comp to watch, and I'd imagine the coaches feel the same way. Sometimes I'm convinced he should be a permanent forward adn then i see his Cripps role and think he should be in the midfield. In my view if Heeney was used properly in the forward line that is where we'd get the most value.. he is a great contested mark and 1-1 player. The issue has been a) ball delivery b) not isolated enough in the forward line. He is rarely beaten 1-1in a contested marking contest. Yet we just continue to bomb the ball in. He is a silky smooth player so can totally understand how you'd view him as a better mid, but feel his best strength is marking so needs to be played as a permanent forward. That said he cant kick this year. All of that said, perhaps you are right, nothing to lose this year and the potetnial is there.

Think the swans scg crowd is more casuals and family friendly attendance, so you won't get the variousness from a mature crowd who are primarily seasoned watchers of their teams like in the other states. Finals tends to bring out the seasoned fans who are willing to pay $$$ for tickets. I still yell out shit though.

Problem is you need to make him the focal point in the forward line & then have other forwards spreading away from him so he can get those 1v1 opportunities. That doesn't happen with us because Franklin is the focal point & our fwds all tend to go to the same spot/contest. So his skills are negated a bit. I'm in the team midfield camp, especially now our season is cooked. Either he guns it or fails and he goes back to being a very good forward. I'm thinking if he does well in the mids then next year he can have a more balance mid/fwd role & be effective in both areas for the team. It's also a more difficult matchup when he's rotating through both areas imo. Lets just try things out now, we don't know what will work.

With all due respect, and this is coming from someone who used to have season tickets to the Waratahs, if you are comparing Swans crowds to NSW rugby union crowds then you are in trouble. Ewen McKenzie, one of their most successful coaches, compared the crowds to audiences that attend plays.

It’s not all bad. The crowds are respectful and peaceful. Families can safely bring their kids. But the crowd is not going to lift the team when they are down, or intimidate the opposition, or pressure the umpires. I think there are crowds in Australia that do these things and are safe places. It is possible to do both.

Coach is looking super stressed and aggro.

Team is playing without confidence and with little joy.

Chicken, egg or vicious cycle?

His snap at the journo who asked him what he said to the boys at quarter time was weird. Seemed like a fair question to me. I think he is feeling the pressure.

I think it is mostly viscous cycle. I reckon team lost confidence from GF, started okay, then had injuries, then lost more confidence, then Horse tried to encourage team while enforcing structures, then team lost more confidence, then Horse starts getting aggro.

It seems to me that there is a bit too much s*** under the carpet. Maybe a bit of aggro leading to some hard truths in all directions may not be too bad for long term.

Random observation but it was pissweak to see Francis cop a couple of bumps after King marks and nobody fly the flag for him.

Compare that to the way the Pies attack like a pack of dogs when one of their players cops it...

I was sitting on level 1 near the pocket when king & francis got into a tussle, it looked like King punched Francis in the head or near the head? not 100% sure though

I'd prefer him as a potential JPK, RO'K, Hannebery type. A goal a game midfielder. We don't lose much up forward if he can achieve that. God knows our clearances suck and we need a clean ball winner and he's got that ability. But he's lost a lot of that touch and needs to play in the guts every week to get it back. Plus we might squeeze a couple more years out of him I don't think he'll get playing as a forward. Mills looked cooked too early on when he went into the midfield. I've long felt that Hayward and Heeney are playing the same role. Time to commit to one or the other.

Second goal - King from holding the man - if that was called every time the ball went inside 50, there’d be a shot on goal for a forward every time

We kicked 5 in a row. Then dying stages of the quarter to halt the momentum

Third goal Caminiti - for too high grazed his face incidental contact, again rarely called

Fourth goal Butler from holding the ball - legit, Warner dropped it.

But 3 from 4 before half time.

4 points up last quarter 16 minutes left

8th goal - Owens 50 from Gulden standing on the mark.
9th goal - Wanganeen Milera 50 from Sheldrick dawdling to the mark but not impacting anything

We get it back level

Free kick picked out on the wing to Sinclair in a marking contest, long lock forward and they kick their 10th goal.

So decisions came into 6 of their first 10 and they only kicked 12.

We did get Clarke’s and Guldens that were dicey as well.
You missed the blatant throw let go leading to King's mark & goal at the start of the 3rd quarter.

Apologies. Was that the one where butler passed it to him and it went about 7 metres and paid the mark despite setting a precedent in the first quarter after we kicked one 20 into the 50 marked by Gulden but they called play on?
