Apparently some good centre clearance work by Adz and Pendles in the match sim today
Mid-year return for Broomhead? What?!Friday 24 Jan training observations
I'll leave it to the diligent Jen or Apples for a more complete summary
They occupy a spot closer to the middle of the field, so will notice different things.
4 qtrs of match sim today (about 20mins quarters each)
Black (jumpers) vs Whites.
Unavailable
Langdon and Broomhead went off for a walk around the Tan
Dunn sprint work and really had a head of steam up
De Goey and Greenwood run throughs. Greenwood working particularly hard
Jaidyn - run throughs around the boundary
Appleby - few run throughs at the start but then disappeared
Summary of play
Bit scrappy and was interrupted and reset to new positions on the field sporadically to recommence stoppage work.
Didn't allow as much for free flowing football accordingly.
I still felt we lacked a tall marking target or two, so we kicked around the backline a lot to work it out
AFL Umpires were in use.
Game was won about 9.3 to 3.6 by the White Team
Players who left a favourable impression with me (note that I stood at one end of the ground, so some midfield and stoppage work probably got overlooked)
Whites
Adam Treloar - kicked about 3 goals, 2 from stoppages and 1 bursting out of the centre. Also had a dribble snap denied on the line. Was v good today
Jamie Elliott - very busy around the midfield. Lots of pace and run. Quite damaging. Good pressure too
Phillips - racked it up but disposal let him down at times
John Noble - Very busy in the second half. Had some nice run and carry at times.
Cal Brown - was busy accumulating, but not a standout
Sam Fowler - an industrious VFL top up player from Dromana. Small forward. Got to the right position, worked hard with his pressure too. Best of the VFL crew, albeit kicking let him down at times
Other players on the team from what I recall were Howe, Atu, Magden, Cox, Cameron, Wills, Keane, Ruscoe, Kelly(limited time), Maynard
Blacks - pretty well beaten
Pendles - did some nice things, but not prolific
Adams - kept working hard to make space. Disposal let him down at times and got caught a coupe of times too
Grundy - had the best of his opponents (Cox, Cameron) in the ruck hit outs but didn't dominate around the ground in play
WHE - showed a little bit up forward but missed a pretty easy shot on goal
Other players on the team Steele, Moore, Murphy, IQ, Lynch, Roughead, Mihocek (kicked 1), T Brown, Sier, Reid (missed a sitter), Tohill, Rantall, Bianco, Crisp, Shaz, Mayne (maybe 1H only), Thomas
Few top up types from the VFL as well participated
Other snippets
Expect Jaidyn to rejoin the main group in drills in February but no rush
Yes, Broomy has had the steel rod removed, so taking it slowly. Maybe mid year return
Will Kelly has shot up. Now 198cm (the new Murphy ;-)). Very encouraging given he also finished Top 5 in the time trial. Genuine KPP height now.
I thought both the Irish boys still show a lack of touch with their ball handling. Tohill the more prominent of the two around the ground. I know some have high hopes for Keane this year, but I don't share their optimism.
Barely sighted/noticed but may typically be of interest Sier, Wills, T Brown
Yeah, why does having the rod taken out limit to do a mid-season return?Mid-year return for Broomhead? What?!

Albert I think I was there for about 40 minutes and Pendlebury was playing in the white team and I thought he did pretty well but that is a great summary of events. And I also think that Mihocek played for both teams, he played a bit in black and white.Friday 24 Jan training observations

Yes, I think Pendles did switch in the 2h briefly. Didn't notice Mihocek switch. There is often movement between teams in these things to test match ups or even things up if a player rests. I didn't take enough notice to be flagging changes.Albert I think I was there for about 40 minutes and Pendlebury was playing in the white team and I thought he did pretty well but that is a great summary of events. He severely lacked speed for his size. If he was quicker, there was no way he would have been let go.Aish was always an interesting one, becasue he came to the AFL with a reputation of extreme creativity. He even looked like it would translate in his first year at Brissy, but then he went into his shell. I reckon Aish is more likely to become a dangerous user as we've at least seen some glimpses. Every now and then he'd pull off a hit up into forward 50 that was sublime.
Come on Albert, get #Keen4KeaneFriday 24 Jan training observations

Thanks Albert, great work.Yes, Broomy has had the steel rod removed, so taking it slowly. Maybe mid year return
Because you don’t dump a player who suffered such a horrific injury while trying to win a game for CFC.If it’s mid year what was the point of keeping him on the list?
Yes, agree with this based on what I saw. Moore got tackled awkwardly by a ringin with no number on his back and people near me thought he had done his knee. He got up slowly but was okay.I was there, granted I was with some friends so my focus wasn't 100% on the play. But here are some thoughts.
Albert, I was on the concrete blocks near the grass area after the cafe, decided on something different. There was a decent crowd there today.
- Everyone looked fit. Not too many in the rehab group. Which is a good sign. I didn't spot Langdon or Broomhead, but as Albert said, they went to the The Tan. No Varcoe, Beams. Appleby was doing work with a trainer, then some running. I lost track after that, I assume he went inside. Anyone know the issue with Appleby is? Stevo and de goey were running laps. Dunn was nearing full fitness. Should join the main group anytime soon.
- skills were a bit scratchy in the first sim, wasn't positional, then they went into positions type match and things really got going. Treloar was everywhere and got a nice goal.
Rantall in the centre square, got some clearances, and looked pretty good.
Bianco did some nice things. Ruscoe was also good in the backline.
Lynch got some tap work from his opponents I felt. A few times he outrucked cox.
Elliott and Moore are looking fit and good. I was worried there for a moment when it appeared Moore got a knock to his ankle, but got up and seemed to be okay and finished the session.
Roughy just outmarking everyone lol
Wilson definitely getting the ball a lot more developing as a winger than he was when he was in the forward line last season. I think its wise for him to be this role.
The VFL players did some good things, definitely have some skills, but like everyone, always things to work on. This is gonna help us through the VFL team this year.
Yeah my friend next to me thought it was his ankle. But phew, relief indeed.Yes, agree with this based on what I saw. Moore got tackled awkwardly by a ringin with no number on his back and people near me thought he had done his knee. He got up slowly but was okay.
Roughie is a beauty.
With Monday being a public hoiday, I'm unsure whether they will be training or not.

I can't say I noticed Sier very much tbh. But I was half paying attention, but maybe someone else can answer this.Thank you for the updates, those in attendance!
I'm curious how Sier looked? Wills had him covered?
