Ton Browne told me he believes its bone on bone with Langers. I hope he can get it right, the most i've seen him on the ground is on the stationary bike pre-christmas.
hope he can get it right too, ill take anything tom browne says with a grain of salt but that wouldn't be great, such an important player for us

Oh I know, but it's not the first time I've heard the bone on bone thing, so I wouldn't be surprised. But I'll take it as it comes with langers. Hopefully he can start training in the coming weeks.

If it's true, how do you make bone on bone right? Can you play well at the elite level if you have that? Curious on your thoughts Gone Critical Swooop The Royal Sampler

P.S. Happy New Year everyone! :)
Very much not my area of expertise so I write as no real expert.

Basically bone on bone implies severe osteoarthritis. The meniscus and articular cartilage of the knee damaged and the joint has largely lost the shock absorption that the meniscus provides and the smooth surface for the joint to glide on as it moves. The joint becomes sore, the surfaces inflamed and further damage is ongoing.

Bad news for the athlete is there is no currently successful way to regrow cartilage. Experimental treatments using stem cell therapy is still unproven.

This becomes a management issue rather than something to cure. Take load off the knee, cross training for fitness etc. The Royal Sampler could speak much more to this.

My base definition would be it’s a shitty diagnosis and a knee replacement awaits down the track.

We had a player here who continued to play at TFL level (and be the best player in the league) with this problem. His training was severely curtailed, with his running done in the pool and the like, but he stayed fit enough for some years. The on the edge demands of the very top level would seem to me to make this a very hopeful approach, and if his knee really is that bad, then his career is done. There are injections of synovial fluid replacement that can lubricate things a bit for a while, but the stresses of football at his level would exceed the effects of this kind of thing.

Browne actually has a reasonably good track record with injuries for Collingwood unfortunately.

In what sense is Cox not friendly to Cameron?
I sense a Beams/Barham situation coming up.

I will question whichever side Sidebottom takes very critically.

The sky was almost blanched white, it was lacking in vitality and there was a dusting of fluffy pale clouds which looked innocuous ahead of the forecast more spiteful weather.

People will be pleased to note that there were ground under repair signs which were removed after the players entered the arena. The oval itself looks like the ‘ G on the first day of a Boxing Day test. It is as verdant as an English village green and looks even and smooth as silk.

If that's your first posting Lime22, I look forward to many more. Welcome aboard.

I believe the issue with Langdon’s knee is a hereditary one. This caused the issues with him having surgery as the family knee surgeon opted against surgery due to fear his knee would not heal.

Eventually after 6 weeks, a lot of to and fro between his knee surgeon and the surgeon from the club and AFL, it was determined that the initially outlined surgery would be done.

I’m not a doctor, but I just hope that his knee comes good.

I know in the past Langdon has struggled with injuries. He was terrific in 2014 and 2015 but not as productive in 2016 and 2017 when he had injuries and long stints on the sidelines in both of those seasons.

I hope he can get into rehab and then fill training by the end of February as he is an important player for us down back.

I’m glad to hear Greenwood is fitting fit and looking good. Don’t be surprised if Varcoe plays in his role this season down back.

Beams, well I think with all that has happened, his own health and his family are the main priorities for him.

Would love to hear from onlookers but in photos, it seems that Brayden Sier is looking very lean and ready to become a regular in 2020. Is this the case?

Ed doesn't seem to have dodgy knees.

Was happy to have him go to Sydney when in 2 minds, the hype around us keeping him was ridiculous - reasonable player and if he stays good on him, but we are just poor at in coming & out coming players with question marks!
This is an extremely easy call to make with hindsight.

Flash back to reality... its the 2018 Off season, and Langdon is coming off a tantalising finals Series (and full season while we’re at it) where you could make a case he was in the best handful of players involved in the finals league wide. Had we of won the GF, he wouldn’t have been out of place with a Norm Smith around his neck.

He almost singlehandedly held together a makeshift defence with a revolving door of players around him (players of the calibre such as Madgen, Ox, a very green Murphy) and lead that defence to a Grand final. The poor decision at that moment in time would have been to let him walk.

Don’t be that guy. Don’t be a hindsight hero.
