People who say Stephen Bradbury didnt deserve or earn his gold medal.
He was the best skater on the day.
Therefore deserves the medal.

He deserved his medal and earned his gold, sure, but he was the worst skater on the day. In fact one of the worst in each lead up race.

Better skaters feel due to the skating of others, not due to bad skating of their own. He, by his own admission allowed for luck. When you're consciously factoring in luck to get you through and it eventuates, then that really has nothing to do with good skating.

His tactic was superior to any of the other skaters.
Therefore he was the best.

Bradbury's tactic was to sit back and hope that the other skaters would fall over. It happened to work out perfectly for him but was something that would maybe only happen once in a hundred races or more. Not sure you could say his tactic was superior given those sorts of odds.

The other skaters tactics were to actually skate faster than everyone else and win a gold medal legitimately, those tactics had a much better chance of being successful. Just because those tactics didn't happen to work on the day doesn't mean they were inferior to Bradbury's sit back and hope tactic.

No it wasn't. It was almost completely dependant on luck. He couldn't compete with them even if he tried, so he had no choice but to sit well back anyway.

When you are factoring in luck, which he did, and you are agreeing this was the case, then it's not tact, it's hope, it's dependant on variables outside of your control to (in this case literally) fall over.

Some numbers, though, sound better 4-4-2 or something else. Especially when they have double or tripple numbers crossing over the 'gap'.

Exactly why I say mine in 4-4-2. So much easier saying XXXX-X666-XX than XXXX-X66-6XX. I also think it would be wrong to have '666' in my number and break it up.

The reason his tactic was the best cause the others all made tactical errors. Allowing his tactic to be the best.
Yes, they might not have known they would fall, and the odds might have been extremely low. But thats the beauty of sport.

The fact Bradbury himself admitted there was no way he could keep up with the other skaters obviously being completely ignored by NAUGHT5 here...

Exactly. Him openly saying he was no where near as good as his opponents, and his only hope was if they all lost their shit is a pretty good indicator. As is the fact he did it in the semi as well. Just a lucky guy who didn't fall over, hence deserving his medal

The irony is that Bradbury is one of the most famous and recognisable of our Olympic gold medallists due to the bizzare way he won it. His name has even become part of Australian folklore and is now used to describe anyone that flukes success.

Many of our other gold medallists that won their medals for legitimately being the best competitor in their respective events have now faded into obscurity. Must piss them off no end to see someone like Bradbury still hogging the limelight.
