Tippett injured at training

Adelaide draftee Kurt Tippett has injured his neck and will be off the training track for at least six weeks.

Tippett, 19, was hurt in a collision at football training on Wednesday morning. He saw a spinal specialist on Thursday morning and will wear a neck brace for six weeks. No surgery was required and there is no neurological damage.

However, the extent of the injury is still being assessed.

Tippett was drafted in November from Southport, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, with the No 32 pick.

Injured Adelaide draftee Kurt Tippett should return to competitive training by mid-March.....

Tippett, 19, has an undisplaced fracture in a cervical vertebrae (in his neck) and must wear a neck brace for six weeks.

Club doctor Andrew Potter said Tippett was expected to make a full recovery.

"He should be able to return to competitive football by three months," Dr Potter said. "While he is wearing the brace he will be able to remain active on the bikes."

This is bad news for the boy.........he was never going to line up for Round 1......but to miss an entire preseason from a weights and bonding point of view is a real waste......

Despite any media spin from Crow officials, you always have to be fearful of career threatening problems when a lad has any sort of neck or spinal injury.

There have been several instances where a neck injury has happened to players, and despite early positive prognosis', said player has struggled to overcome, eventually sacrificing a stalled footy career for longer term lifestyle concerns, comfort and activity.

Remember, AFL players are at an elite level of fitness and professionalism. Any spinal cord suspicion, whilst fine for everyday pursuits, may not withstand the ultimate in stress and endurance required at the very uppermost of sporting endeavour. Hence the limits that the human body can withstand may not be broken by normal standards, but by no means is what an AFL footballer endures "normal".

I wish the lad luck and hope he makes a 100% recovery.

Dude we don't want to hear that, ******** off.

It wont too serious if it did not require surgery, he just needs give it time to mend.

But its the hidden that concerns

Everytime he goes for a mark and lands awkwardly or gets sandwiched

I am old enough to recall Sachse getting paralysed and I hope I never see another player get it

The positive is he is young and admittedly no surgery was needed. I just hope the medicos err on the side of caution in this one
