Have we had a more unfairly maligned and underrated player in recent memory at Geelong? By his own fans mind you. Now we pray for another to replace him.

That was even more frustrating than when he hit the post a few years ago kicking for his 8th (coincidentally, also against Brisbane). I've had a bet on with a mate since 2010 that Hawkins will kick 8 one day, but he seems determined to ensure that I lose that bet.

Was that poster from right near the goal square? Vaguely remember it I think

Possibly. My recollection is around 40 out on a slight angle, but to be fair I'm pretty pissed right now and I was probably pissed then too!

Haha I had it in my head we played tonight so I went for a sleep at lunch - checked the phone when I woke up and it was 15 minutes into the first term. Cracked a can and been sucking them down since!

Ablett Sr obviously - Wade?
Listening to a game on the radio back in the day. Jack Dyer was calling the game and had been complaining about the frees Wade wasn't getting from an annoying Collingwood backman (Dyer was a fan of Wade's at the time). Wade and the backman jog back to goalsquare after one play, side by side with the Pies back man still in niggle mode. Suddenly the backman is down in a heap with Wade jogging on by himself, and another commentator calls it. Dyer dryly replies "Must have been the heat got to him". It was July. ;)

I can only assume you took that bet with Tom himself.

Tom Hawkins - Countdown to 500 Goals

7 on the weekend moves Tom to 479 Career Goals - 21 Short of 500

Passed the following players on the all-time goal kicking list

479 Paul Hudson
475 Jock Spencer
475 Keith Forbes
475 John Peck

Next on the list

483 Jeff Farmer

21 to go with games against Richmond, Hawks, Freo and Gold Coast.

Can he do it before the H&A season ends?

Imagine him hitting it last round down in Geelong.

I think that post was before this weekend's game, so it's only 14 to go. Will definitely get it this year if he stays in this kind of form.

He'll probably get it next week at this rate.
fourteen FOURTEEN!!!!!!!!!

But in all seriousness if he kicks 3 I’ll be happy, it is against Rance so no easy challenge.

Missed out on winning the league goalkicking in his first season because he got 2 weeks for retaliating against a Collingwood blot named John Mahon.

If Geelong can keep the form up ..and Hawk stays fit you have a chance. He kicked 7 but he did it easier than last week.. he is starting to get into a zone where great forward get.. where it starts to look simple .. playing like this he is capable of a double figure game..

He's well and truly off the tether now.

He's now known as an escapeGOAT.

I am quite sure that another player will be chosen very shortly.
We have had many in the past.

Fourth for me, still behind Johnson as well.

Johnson is a far better ‘player who was a forward’ in my eyes but that was because he was essentially a midfielder who happened to spend a lot of time forward and his effectiveness was in being able to be so creative further up the field. If he was based forward permanently I don’t think he’d have been as successful over all.

Certainly worthy of consideration though
