What is the expected bit?
Each kick is graded on its difficulty - essentially how likely it is to hit a target. Missing easy kicks harms your rating while hitting harder kicks improves your rating.

Not in most people's AA squads somehow. Even in his "bad" games he's good for a couple of goals and assists usually.

Yep. When he was ‘dogshit’ in the first month he still had 4 goals contributed against Collingwood and 3 against Carlton, then 4 against Hawthorn.

He’s also 5th in the comp for contested marks (2.1 per game) and the only key forwards above him are McKay who is further from an AA start this year than Quinton Narkle, and Curnow who is probably already locked into it.

At 34 it is absolutely f***ing amazing

I'm always hard at work in the AA thread on the main board. It's probably more appreciated here though:

Taking out games against the universally recognised bottom 3 cellar dwellars (WCE, Hawthorn and NM - all a step below the rest even if Hawks have had a mini recent revival), the averages for the main contenders are:

Hawkins: 10 games, 26 goals (2.6 pg), 13 assists (1.3 pg) = 3.9 goal contributions per game
Cameron: 10 games, 27 goals (2.7 pg), 7 assists (0.7 pg) = 3.4 goal contributions per game
Walker: 10 games, 24 goals (2.4 pg), 5 assists (0.5 pg) = 2.9 goal contributions per game
Allen: 12 games, 31 goals (2.6 pg), 4 assists (0.3 pg) = 2.9 goal contributions per game
Curnow: 10 games, 23 goals (2.3 pg), 5 assists (0.5 pg) = 2.8 goal contributions per game
Daniher: 10 games, 25 goals (2.5 pg), 3 assists (0.3 pg) = 2.8 goal contributions per game
Larkey: 11 games, 28 goals, 3 assists (2.5 pg), 3 assists (0.3 pg) = 2.8 goal contributions per game
Miochek: 10 games, 25 goals (2.5 pg), 2 assists (0.2 pg) = 2.7 goal contributions per game

Mitch Lewis has been outstanding but only played 6 games. If he kept his averages up for the rest of the season he'd be in the conversation.

So if we exclude the stat-padding sides, Hawkins is offering half a goal more than 2nd best or a full goal more than the next best from an opposition team.

Hawkins also leads if you just do a simple total for direct goal contributions as well. Better numbers than last year, so far. But I fear neutrals are simply getting sick of him staying this good for this long.

Side note, if Tom Hawkins plays all of the remaining 11 home and away games he will reach the 350 game milestone in the final round against Western Bulldogs (at GMBHA).

Hawkins career stats compared to current players:

Combine goals and goal assists and he's over 1000.
Amazing player.

How many goal assists does buddy and Riewoldt have?
I went looking for the answer to this and stumbled upon the fact that both Brad Close and Gryan Miers are in the top 30 for goal assist averages since that stat was recorded. Pretty impressive.

Realistically these are amazing all round stats.

Ok it’s a given that Buddy is the best key forward/forward in general of his generation. No argument, no disgrace being behind him.

But the assist stat is basically the domain of great ball using midfielders, and small forwards from memory having looked over those stats before.

His contested marking is acknowledged as being absolutely elite so that comes as no surprise but still it’s an incredible number

The marks inside 50 thing is the real big one for me.

For a lot of his career he has been double teamed or been the only target and focus for the defence. Now he shares that in common with Riewoldt who has also had to deal with that. But equally he also has spent nearly 8 seasons as either a 50-50 sharer of the forward line (Cameron, Mooney, Podsiadly) or a lesser focal point. AND he was used as a second ruck for a while, AND he has spent a lot of his career impacted by a back injury and has been potted for long periods for his lack of pace and mobility.

To have taken more marks inside 50 than Jack who himself is an absolutely sensational player, is a remarkable effort

Of course I will cop it on this forum however I feel it needs to be debated.

All summer we heard his lean, quick and slimline he was.

He continually refused to take shots

Passed to people in worse position to himself

Is too selfless

Cannot breakway and leads too late

Leads too far up the ground

Other players who are in losing teams have far more influence such as Jack Riewoldt,Josh Bruce, hogan have more of an influence

Minimum should be 1 goal per quarter I think we need Vardy or Clark to assist as Stanley & Smith are pinch hitters at best.

To be goalless against the Bombers defence was pathetic .

No excuses now he has Dangerfield and caddy delivering into forward line the Hawkins from 2011 GF is only a memory
