Does it not say something that not one Eagles player remonstrated with Hawkins? Even when Schofield was getting up off the ground, Gaff was giving him a hand but didn't even bother to give Hawkins a push/shove or anything

Normally players on the ground give a good indication of what they think about the treatment a teammate has received and to see not one Eagles player either at the time of the incident or even in the passages of play afterwards, really remonstrate with Hawkins does give an indication that there wasn't much in it

The other thing that the club should do if they are going to appeal the decision is have someone review footage from the game and find any other incidents involving Schofield where he received a heavy bump or contact. He didn't go off at the time & receive medical treatment, so if the medical reported submitted today indicates that he was sore or some shit post-match, find footage of other incidents & use them to create doubt around the level of impact from just this incident:

"With no medical treatment received immediately after the incident with Hawkins has to raise, we raise doubts over the medical report considering that Schofield was also involved in incidents A, B & C which all could have contributed to feeling sore & banged up after the match."

Oh, cats_09.........this is Hawkins.

The AFL has a special chapter in its rule book just for him.

Didn't you know???

Precarious position.

We desperately need Hawkins, but there's a real chance the players focus could be severely derailed with the distraction of an appeal that's unlikely to be successful.

Do they play that card?

If they do, and win, it'd be a huge boost to morale.

But if they don't win, it'll plant seeds of doubt.

So do they just leave it alone and move on quickly?

You have to challenge if there's no consequence of him getting an extra week.

You're taking the piss if you think Cotchins act was worse then Hawkins. Punch behind play compared to an act in play.

YOU are taking the piss if you think cotchin slamming his whole body to the head/neck area is the same as Hawkins tap on schofield...he played on, did not even have any medicos check on him...shiel was out of the game with concussion.

Truly ridiculous!!

I know

And don't get me wrong, I'm frustrated he put himself in this position

He did.

But gee whiz, imagine an alternate universe where he is judged exactly the same as his fellow man........

Meantime, in this universe he's being blindfolded and led to the firing squad whilst another is being let out the front gates with another guy's eyeballs in his hand.

Can't believe how biased the AFL is, completely compromised.
Fake administration fake system.
And Toby Greene gets a fine!

Maybe but I thought Schofield still looked annoyed at the end after him and Hawkins shook hands etc.- he might have just been disappointed about the loss of course but Tom looked like he wasn’t quite satisfied with how they ‘made up’. Fair enough if Schofield is teed off.

You do....... But I'm concerned about the effect the ensuing media circus will have on the rest of the squad.

I reckon that the club can put a bubble around all that external noise. They have had the Kelly contract distraction all year. Even this week the pressure on Scott and the playing group to perform was immense. I reckon a little side show wouldn't affect things too much.

Is there also a special chapter too disallowing him from receiving frees for being held?

Ooooh i think there is!

You could well be right, but I wouldn't be the least surprised if they choose to focus solely on the game preparation and forfeit any appeal

Mate if Schofield had come off for treatment no matter how minor I'd be with you but my gut feeling is he was trying to milk the system and went down like a cheap hooker and Hawks left carrying the can.

I suspect the level of force can't be seriously contested when it's already graded at the minimum of "low-impact". Clearly Schofield was okay to continue but that doesn't mean there was insufficient force. Perhaps a statement by Schofield could sway matters but I doubt it.

I'm also surmising that the "intentional" probably can't be downgraded to "careless" as it's both off the ball and a swinging arm. Maybe the fact that there was no clenched fist or that Hawkins "intent" was to impede Schofield rather than strike him to the head but jeez, it's clutching at straws you would think.

As per the MRO rules, it can’t be careless conduct if it happened behind play, it must be intentional.
Need to show the Hall vision from 2005 and claim that it was in play, not behind play.

Srsly tho- he has to be like a real campaigner to the umps maybe off the ball/ a whinger idk.

Or did something in a past life to offend them greatly.

He doesn't seem to say or do anything untoward, but they definitely don't like him.

While we're at it...... I wonder if there will be any commentary on last night's umpiring standard?
