2-3 years ago would do that deal, but at 29 would have to give up to much for a guy who has maybe 3-4 years left.

Depends which way you look at it.

Gunston is no more than 1.5 years older than Treloar, for one. He'd be more valuable to our forward line than what Treloar is to our midfield.

He has valuable experience and would be a better leader than Treloar.

And he'd probably earn less per year.

That’s fine but for that money you shouldn’t have poor years like we’ve seen.

I'm not sure where this "poor" year myth comes from. Grundy had a good year, it was just down on the standards he set himself in 2018 and 2019, but he was still arguably in the discussion for 3rd ruck in the AA squad.

Witts the other likely one in that discussion.

I think Phillips is the Clinton Young🤣

Without the pace.... or the kicking skills.

LOL the problems are everywhere.
Inflated wages
The coach.
The game plan.
The forward line etc etc etc

If we land Gunston then the salary cap problems were exaggerated.

If we don’t land Gunston and replace Treloar and Phillips with draft picks then we will know for sure we were in a world of cap pain.

Hard pass on Gunston, guy is a star but clearly we have some issues to solve and need to hit the draft.

The idea of heading into next year with the same fwd line is vomit inducing though, so it does make you want Gunston!

Need to trust the head not the heart on this one

We need the draft picks through too....
We need more quality young players----we have neglected this for the best part of the entire decade.

How does that then solve our cap problem?

What if we don't have that big of a cap problem afterall....and this is all just about freeing up room to get in a required player? There hasn't been anything from the club to say we have salary cap trouble....and we just re-signed De Goey, Moore, Daicos and Mihocek for healthy deals.

OK, Gunston isn't necessarily a key forward...but he is still a 40-50 goal a year full forward.

Let's just see how it plays out.

If it ends up being Treloar swapped out for Gunston then you could argue that we've traded into an area of need and giving midfield opportunities to players like JDG, Sier, Rantall etc. Age difference probably marginal.

Would be filthy if we end up letting go Stephenson and get Gunston instead though. Stephenson is just as dangerous as Gunston in the forwardline and has 10 years of service on him.

Grundy didn’t have a million dollar year. If you want that money you need to perform.

Treloar for Gunston isnt great but might be the best we could get.
Only 18 months age difference and Gunston doesnt have the injury worries Treloar does, and fills an area of better need.
