Can't really see it myself. No team in the window is going to get rid of all its depth and replace them with draft age kids alone. Nor with guys who didn't get drafted and then need to be picked up as rookies.

Side note: Do rookies even exist anymore? I thought it was just one list now.
According to the afl website there is still a rookie draft (straight after the main and preseason draft on the same day). Not sure of the difference, maybe they just get paid less.

hawthorn drafted 8, 7 and 7 in their three peat years. Mostly rookies, but still kept turning them over. Not unusual for top teams to turn over 7 or 8 players as the gap between the players that improve the team and those that don't is clearer. :greenalien:

Looks like we have 8 going out and 1 coming in so maybe 7 spots. It sounds like Moore is getting elevated and Baker kept on the rookie list, while we are losing Stengel from the rookie list. So we could draft 5 in the main draft and 2 rookies. If we trade in 1 more player then that's only 6 across the main and rookie draft. :thumbsu:

Trading should be to fill gaps or improve on best 22, not to build depth. In recent years we've picked up players like Broad and Garthwaite in the 5th round, so depth can be built through the draft with more scope for improvement.;)

What’s the go with the Scully rumour?
Haven’t followed much of the trade stuff other than Lynch.
Can we really afford Lynch and Scully? And with everyone signing on I can’t see us landing Scully unless he’s a free agent but then there’s the $$$

Thought this would help with regards the state of the list as it stands heading into the trade/free agency period.

Possible trades Townsend and B.Ellis. Departing are players likely to/have moved on.
* - Currently Rookie listed

Some Thoughts:
Plenty of discussion about how we're desperate for a big inside midfielder, but I don't really think we're that desperate. I'd like to see us train Caddy back up to rotate through the middle with Dusty and Graham should improve with another preseason under his belt, McIntosh wouldn't be the worse idea to use as a big body in the middle if we can't get a ready made in.

IMO we're in more need of outside run and carry especially if Brandon moves on. Rioli Butler Menadue Markov Naish have big shoes to fill with Houli & Edwards being the only proven

A mature ruck wouldn't hurt as back up for Nankervis, not necessarily to play in the same side, more someone we could turn to in the even Nank was out for a few weeks. Although Soldo isn't that bad an option if we're going to over pay for someone.

Rumors that chol Maric jr and Drummond all being delisted
If all of the rumoured players leaving the club is true including this one, then our lust turnover is set to be huge. We probably have a contingency plan in place if we are willing to delist a couple of players after moving on so many others.

Scully is wanting to come here. Loves the club and wants to realise his dream of playing for his favourite club.

Up to us to be able to accomodate.

Lynch will be on 5m over 6 years. Roughlt 850k per year.

Cotch, Rance and Jack toom a 500k paycut between them.

Outs:

Miles 300k
C. Ellis 200k
Lloyd 300k
Conca 250k
Townsend 200k
Stengle 120k.
Drummond 100k.
Chol 100k
Soldo 100k

That is 1.67m. Add on the 500k from the three pay cuts takes it to about 2.2
Minus 850 from Lynch takes it down to 1.37m.

Minus resignings takes of another say, 600k.

We have another 700k to play with minus whatever cap space we had left before signing and delisting.

We COULD fit Scully in with a little shuffling.

Can't see us getting rid of both Chol and Soldo. CCJ as good as he is as a prospect I don't think is ready to step up to rucking full time for a season at VFL and if Nank got injured he would be the only option. Unless of course we bring someone in but in that case I hope it is either a free agent or DFA as emergency cover.

Yep. Is only 23 too. So would be handy. But with GC and Carlton getting first dibs on state leaguers, I could see Carlton taking him as a Murphy replacement.

Pretty confident that they will trade those picks. Mature age guys tend to do better when they land in good teams and good teams tend to target the ready to go mature aged players.

No doubting he can play mate but FMD he could be a shocking influence. I’d be more inclined to continue with our no dickhead policy. The behaviour of one person and can completely derail an entire team
Couldn't stomach having the name Liberatore on the Richmond team sheet.

Am I the only one already worried about the guys we have out of contract next year... mainly

Lambert, Vlossy and Astbury plus to a lesser extent Rioli all will probably be getting decent offers to leave hope the squeeze dose not see us losing any of them

All of them will stay.

Rioli loves the club and will have MJ the year after.

Vlossy is our next captain.

Dave is grateful the club stood by him through the injuries and loves Rance anz Grimes.

Lambert is eternally grateful to the club for the chance to play AFL.

The club would’ve planned for having cap space to signing those guys.

Lets breakdown the yet to be named WB midfielder:

  • McCare re-signed this season, so cross him off your list.
  • As did Wallis and Mclean, so cross those two off your list.
  • Mark Stevens has come out tonight saying Liber is on the very of re-signing with more to come after their bnf tonight.

That leaves Bontempelli and Dunkley who are both OOC at the end of next year. Now Bontempelli would be completely off limits and would cost the world if he said he wanted to out. That leaves Dunkley who has history with RFC given his time he spent here in draft year both playing VFL and using our facilities throughout the week. Dunkley has just broken out in the back end of this season once given an opportunity to be the in and under mid he was drafted to be, which in turn makes it hard to gauge what he would be worth. He form was very promising but at the same time he doesn't have enough runs on the board to breaking the bank for. But he is exactly the type of player we should be targeting.

Does anyone think that we have changed strategy this year with delisting players?

Seems to me that we are trading players out for draft picks rather than letting them go as DFA's (Conca excluded) I don't really understand the 'live trading' thing but would that have some bearing on this strategy?

Would love it to happen I know he loves us. Gee he’d be good on the wing with Jack dusty and Lynch inside 50

This would be Jack and Rance's last contract and the cap will probably go up again in a few years. Reckon those guys coming up for renewal would have been informed that the first year or two of their new contracts might be a bit lean but they'll get it back when the coin frees up.

Not really. None of these guys are going to command massive offers from rival teams and if they did teams then have come to the party and find a reasonable trade package. If our culture is as good as what everyone suggest then blokes like these don't consider leaving and sign relatively stress free.

Can also play forward and apply elite pressure tackle and mark overhead.

Your forgetting Hampson and Griffiths who would bothe have been on 350k plus. Chol and Stengle are only rookies tho which are all paid the same which is only 75-80k from memory. Possibly not even counted in the salary cap.

If that was true I would probably sneak Townsend in as a keeper. We have to draft three and see if we can land Setter field, Tyson and Finlayson

We could get Scully in a later year or if possible this year with a back ended contract especially given the contracts he has had AT GWS. It is not as if Scully should have a liquidity problem and I do not think future revenue stream discounts would be an issue for him especially as house prices cannot go any higher
