I didn’t see Phillips play this year ( did he play against us?) but if ther is talk he is available I assume he had a down year. Stephenson had a quiet year for the Roos too. So looks like we got the pick of the unwanted Pies trio !!!!! Sam Power wins again. Not for me. We need better users and he’s a terrible kick.
I assume it is something no one here can answer but does anyone know the general wording of these commitments? We've made the commitment a long way out, and he's contracted.
Yes and Brisbane might remember we reluctantly traded Marcus Adams to them for pick 32 plus a third, when he had two years of a contract with us still. This is after we drafted him with pick 35. If they want deals like this again in the future good will is important.Sorry, bit of a rant …
We approached Lobb with the background context that he’d been told by Freo they would be prepared to trade him back east. We still offered a fair rather than predatory price but Freo have said they want overs because he’s (a) under contract and (b) crucial to their structures. That’s all fine but then why even bother telling the player you’ll facilitate their move. 99% of players in the league are trade-able if getting overs is a condition.
Perhaps we also thought Freo would kindly remember us not being campaigners when Hamling wanted to head home to WA and we gave them a 23 year-old in-form premiership fullback for pick #35 (who performed very well until injury).
People saying we’re being hypocritical between the Brisbane and Freo trades miss these points. Yes we all have tinted glasses on but based on precedent (what else is there) we are offering fair prices and demanding fair prices … and then being told we’re hypocritical because we won’t accept unders and pay overs.
Is good will important? It certainly doesn’t seem to be helping us right now with two teams we have traded fairly with when it was our players leaving.Yes and Brisbane might remember we reluctantly traded Marcus Adams to them for pick 32 plus a third, when he had two years of a contract with us still. Maybe we should just do a Dodo and try screw other clubs over a barrel every year.
I’m wondering if the unexpectedly rapid rise of Sam Darcy (along with good signs from JUH and a likely return of Bruce to full fitness) has cooled our enthusiasm for a player like Lobb. This probably wasn’t in our reckoning if we did indeed make a secret commitment to Lobb 6 months ago.I don't think the Lobb deal will get done. We think 30 is a fair price, while Freo probably think something closer to 20 is a fair price. I just don't see how we close that chasm from 30 to 20. Sadly, I think it's just a bridge too far, and both clubs should go our separate ways.
Expecting too much of Darcy too soon is not a great plan. He's also played mostly in defence so far..I’m wondering if the unexpectedly rapid rise of Sam Darcy (along with good signs from JUH and a likely return of Bruce to full fitness) has cooled our enthusiasm for a player like Lobb. If so we can withdraw honourably by saying we offered a perfectly fair price but Fremantle were quite unreasonable and inflexible.
If Darcy wasn’t such a precocious talent we might have been much keener to find a pick in the low to mid-20s for Lobb.
I suspect we will too. Every year in trade week we see these situations across the league and people are biting their nails thinking it won’t happen but I reckon 90% of them get done (Dunkley to Essendon a notable exception).Expecting too much of Darcy too soon is not a great plan. We will get Lobb
Get onboard the Schache KPF / 2nd Ruck train … running random weekends in March and April, disappearing for 7-8 weeks, returning for 3 weeks in July and then going away forever again.
Note: I actually like Schache. He’s no star but he was a better 2nd tall to partner with Naughton than Cordy or Buku at times.
I don’t think it’s all that significant to be honest. This is a really important 3days coming up for the club and its near term future.
- Lobb deal looks more unlikely than likely
- What is happening with Hunter ?
- Do we end up getting 2 firsts for Dunkley ?
Again the media hyped up this year's trade period as the biggest one in history.
It's been as boring as all the other ones.
There's always a chance another Melbourne club could trump our bid for Lobb. If his priority is moving to Melbourne , he may be persuaded, or decide himself, to go with another team. Not that this should concern us too much.
If I were a betting man I would say we were committed to Lobb since last year.

Not the end of the world if we miss Lobb.
I'm sure if Darcy has some early wow moments in 2023 up forward we wouldn't even remember trying to chase this bloke.
Pick 21 is far too important to give up (if we get it that is).
This is a strong draft and there is every chance a club trades a future first if a slider still sits there.
not sure why grundy keeps being brought up. There's been no suggestion he wanted to come to us, he looked at Geelong and the Dees and that was it
