Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

I had a play around with a mock today and had six bids within our first and second picks (3 x GC plus Croft, McCabe and potentially Cleary). What was once pick 19 became 29. Me sad.

Its why we should be trading and upgrading both our current and F2nds.

Someone who has an early bid can extract max points before the picks start drifting out to 29.

Judd didn’t make you a powerful team for an extended period, he was the cream on the solid foundation cake you already had in Gardiner, Cousins, Wirra, Braun, Glass, Embley, Fletcher, Kerr, Cox and then you traded 8 for Chick.

I'd argue that Judd was far more than the "cream on top", but either way none of those other players you listed was taken in the same draft as Judd. It's the same now, we've already brought in players like Ginbey, Hewett, Long, Culley, Maric, Chesser, Hough etc over the last couple of years There'll be more next year too. Same as when we got Naitanui and Shuey in 2008 then picked up Gaff, Darling, Lycett and McGovern in 2010..

A lot of people are acting as if Reid is the ONLY player we're drafting during this rebuild. He's not.

Every draft is different. Last year it made sense to split, there was no consensus top 5 let alone Pick 1. This year it makes sense to keep Pick 1 and

Just

Take

Reid

Does it matter if it’s 2 or 3? obviously the clubs would know or tell each other who they wanted. you guys are getting flogged badly week in week out. if you take Reid without any other quality to show there is a change, then he will do the same as what Horne Francis did.

Hawks fans

- If you take Reid it will be the only good player you get for the off season

Also Hawks fans

- Brockman is a gun. He is easily worth pick 21 and when you give that up for him, you will be getting a bargain

You know whats annoying.

Its Hawthorn flogs who come on here trolling and our mods shrug and we have a chuckle.

Post something like you have on the Hawks board and Strapping Young Loser bans people for posting facts that he doesnt like reading.

Double standandards dont stop at AFL House.

Yeah, he’s out stayed his welcome and won’t be participating in this thread anymore

I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to split as I rate McKercher as the biggest need for our list and think he will end up the best of the lot (could be completely wrong also)

I’ve never seen this much attention over the number 1 pick, there’s never any noise when a Vic club has it which has been most years, you never heard a peep from the media when Carlton or Melbourne etc finished last but the drama and saltiness that has transpired by us having pick 1 is making me want us to draft Reid at all costs now just out of spite.

I think there is 0 chance that Lance Collard makes it to our pick 40.
I think the opposite. Any club who picks him up is just taking a 2 year rental. I think with his background also the clubs will want to leave him inside his local community and not take him away from it. Will be a very bad look for anyone who picks him up over the long term

I am also coming to the realisation that spite is a perfectly legitimate recruiting strategy.

**** the Vics and just take Reid.

For each away game I want Harley Reid to come out with a WWE style entrance. So the team runs through the banner then the music hits. Then from the plith of smoke Reid is on his throne like so

Our rebuild is going to take time. It cannot be rushed and if the club have the vision to fast track it because of how deplorable we are at the moment then do it by prioritizing youth on the field, not by diluting the quality of our draft hand.

Quality over quantity. "Sure things over speculative picks"

Last year made sense, we need mids and past the first few picks there was a glutton of midfielders all ranked similarly, the added bonus was there was also 4 highly touted W.A boys. I can see the logic in this move and in retrospect it looks to have paid off.

However this year is the opposite. There is a clear top 2-3 players, 4-6 after that and then a drop off for the next 10-25 players. Then it's off the edge of a cliff with the rest.

Add to that the nature of the players available and compare that to what we desperately need (yes, we still need an A grade midfielder or two) and you'd think it's obvious that trading away the Number #1 player for anything less than pick 2 and 3 or a low future first is crazy.

We've have had no trouble securing key backs later in the draft for 3 decades now. Mcgovern, Barrass, Schofield, Hunter, McIntosh, McKenzie...etc etc and so it goes on and on. Glass is the only high pick and he fell outside the top 10 from memory.

So if this is a top heavy draft and we don't exactly need one desperately (yes i know we need one but not with a high first) then take the bloody sure thing, pick a key back in the second round and let's just move on to the bloody pre-season.

If Reid turns out to be a superstar and we are left holding the bag with a handful of sub par players from sub par picks how long do you think our recruiters will be keeping their jobs with a new CEO at the helm?

We want Reid.
We want him in the number #9.
We have been loyal and patient through this nightmare but that can all change very quickly.

Do not deny us our savior. 🤣

Well I certainly hope you’re right👍

With D Generation X music playing and Harley gets up on the boundary fence giving off the suck it gestures to the crowd

Here is what we should demand for pick 1 and no sweeteners.

2 F1 14

Then, trade our pick 36 39, F2 and F3 (which clubs probably value more in next year's draft) for another pick in the early teens this year.

Trade the 2 50s for brockman

2023
2 14 (teen) 29

2024 (trade norf F1 (likely pick 3 IMO, for 2 inside/around 10) or (we keep Norf F1 and trade pick 1 again!)
1 5 10

That then becomes picks 2 5 10 14 for Reid.

That's 6 first rounders in 2 drafts.

So the Ultimate question is: what is the difference between pick 1 and pick 3? Would you prefer 3 quality players say from Curtn/Hardman/Edwards/Hall or just 1? Let's remember that Judd was pick 3. Note I am on your board as a passionate Black Swan West Aussie who likes to see West Aussies get drafted.

Considering where you are atm; a single player or two in Reid and Curtin is not enough for that, you need a group to come through together.

So I believe that West Coast and North should do a deal: North swap picks 3, 15 & 18 for pick 1 and 62. So North pays a premium of 1,121 points for Harley Reid, equivalent to pick 14, which I believe is viable. Likewise, you pick up pick 17, 18, and Curtin for Reid.

Obviously, there will always be exceptions who become legends; Wirrapunda Judd and Hurn, Pavlich, Mundy, and Waterhouse :))jokes) but almost all other West Coast legends and champions are West Aussies.

If you pick swap, you can potentially get all four 2023 WA under 18 All Australians, and Edwards, Hardman, and Collard. No competition from Freo this year as they come in at pick 43. If they lose Schultz to Collingwood and get let's say pick 33, you may miss out on Collard or Sanchez. But Aiden O’Driscoll, who is testing outstanding at the combine, and Zane Zakostelsky would still likely be available. That is 7 top 40 picks of that quality in 1 draft. No go home risk, best KPP in the draft,

How does this look?
  • P3 Daniel Curtin key back U18AA (6 Cal Twomeys projection)
  • P15 Riley Hardman Def/mid U18AA (17)
  • P18 K Tholstrup Mid (19)
  • P22 Mitch Edwards Ruck (27) injured
  • P36 Koen Sanchez Fwd/mid U18AA (37)
  • P43 Clay Hall Wing/Mid U18AA (39)
  • P57 NGA Collard (24) Freak Skilled fwd - NGA so you may have to use some 2024 points to bid.
That’s Seven potential guns in. They are a step up to your current youth like Culley, Barnett, Burgiel, Maric, Chesser. Jamieson.

Similar to the magnificent 7 in 1985 (John Worsfold, Chris Waterman, Peter Sumich, Guy McKenna, Chris Lewis, Paul Peos and Scott Watters) that led to your 92 94 flags and established you as the second-best club of the AFL era (behind Hawthorn ;)

Are you guys split on this?
This may seem like a foreign concept to everyone that says we need more than 1 player to continue our rebuild..but if you look through the draft order in fine detail we have more than 1 pick. Most of the west aussie player you mentioned (regardless of whether they're needs for us or not) will be available at a few of our picks. So if we went specifically with your draft suggestions we'd lose reid but gain a few much lower rated west aussies
If we kept out current hand we'd keep the best player in the draft and lose curtin and maybe 1 or 2 more middling west aussies who may or may not return to perth one day..

Not trolling
Genuinely was curious why he so certain Eagles won't pick him.

He's a bit of a noob at times but why double down.
It goes against what everyone else is saying, even Harley himself and we have to take Harley on his word.
Usually the ones that don't want to go, stay silent and don't come out and refute the claims.

In regards to our later picks my understanding is we should expect 3 Gold Coast academy boys, a Hawks father and son, a Dogs father and son and a Swans Academy boy within the first two rounds, pushing our picks out. So that's 6 additional picks bringing our picks 36 and 43 up to 42 & 49.

However

GC have picks 23, 26, 27, 31, 35, 37 all which should be swallowed up by their 3 academy boys.

Hawks have 32. 53

Dogs have 39, 47 & 52

Swans have 44 & 54.

That's 6 picks minimum that will be spent before our pick 36 and 8 picks before our pick 43.

Possibly 13 picks before our picks 57 and 62 as well.

Our picks in reality will be most likely around the

2nd Round pick (Port) 37-39
3rd Round pick (WC) 41-43
3rd Round pick (Port) 44-47
4th Round Pick (WC) 48-51

It's really only pick 22 we are being royally shafted on.

We won't get 2 and 3. Not given the uncertainty around Reid's willingness to stay here. We might get one of 2 or 3 plus another top 10 pick. I see that as the best case scenario.

Best case scenario is the one where we string clubs along and then put a 9 and some wings on Reid’s back

Ok bets odds are in on what dumb journalist will come out today with a stupid suggestion on pick 1.

We've already had Sam Mclure and Kane Cornes so ruling them out on the account of been proven too dumb.
So who's the next Sam Mclure today.

Garry Lyon $1.01 equal favourite
Jon Ralph $1.01 equal favourite
Damien Barret $1.02
Paul Hasably $1.02
Tom Morris $1.03
Peter Sumich $1.03
Mark Robinson $1.05
Karl Langdon $1.05
Eddie McGuire $1.10
David King $1.10
Caroline Wilson $1.40
Bryan Taylor $1.40
Dermie $1.50
Gerald Wately $1.50

Still have a week to go for a lot of more poorly no researched dumb trade suggestions to come out from this lot.

Who's your pick today.
